Review of the Album "Rocket Ride" by German Heavy Metal Band Edguy
The Album Cover for Rocket Ride
Rocket Ride is a Different Album Than What Fans of Edguy Have Been Used to Hearing But Give it a Chance
German power metal band Edguy has done a heck of a job with outstanding albums such as The Savage Poetry, Theater of Salvation, and Mandrake. However by 2006, they released the album called Rocket Ride and this album marks a kind of musical evolution in which Edguy shifts to a more hard rock style but it is a heavy kind of hard rock.
"The Asylum"
The Songs Sacrifice And Rocket Ride Set a Good Tone for the Album
The first song called "Sacrifice" has a sort of Angra kind of feel as the keyboards are mixed in with the heavy guitar sound to create a pretty darn good opener. Rocket Ride is a song that sends the message that we must not be afraid because there is a meaning, a bigger picture in life and that we must take that rocket ride or that journey to find out what that deeper meaning is. The meaning of life is interpreted differently depending upon the person. There is no reason to be living a lie. Life is so much more than just working and doing nothing else. However as the song Sacrifice points out we attempt to find our way to paradise but we sacrifice certain things as the emotions run amok through us as we try to erase our past demons. Rocket Ride sounds like early Judas Priest. We think that we can find salvation by ourselves but when we try too hard we end up failing in this endeavor. There is a reason that each of us is down here on this Earth but finding that out is the challenging part. I feel like I was born to be a writer and lo and behold, I’m writing another album review in what seems like one after the other.
"Sacrifice"
Rocket Ride is an Album That Really Makes Us Think About the Bigger Picture of Life Starting With the Song Wasted Time
The song Wasted Time is actually not about humans wasting their time but it is about the fact that humans have both the power to create and destroy things. Do we need the pain in our lives even though all of us have been through these painful moments? Life is full of pleasure, imperfections, and pain but it is how we deal with these moments that makes the most difference. The Matrix discusses the issues of deception, right and wrong and finding out your life’s destiny. Right and wrong from a philosophical perspective is just a value judgement. Even though Rocket Ride through the first four songs is not as strong as the band’s earlier albums, their lyrics really make us think about life. Return to the Tribe marks a return to the band’s power metal style to a certain extent. It is about a person that found their way back home, back to paradise and they can now return to their tribe or social group in which they feel that they can relate to.
"Superheroes"
Other Good Songs Include The Asylum and Superheroes
The Asylum starts with a progressive rock acoustic part as the song gets heavier similar to how Kingdom of Madness began. Save Me is a song about looking for someone to save us from this emotional state called "un-emotion" because we seem to walking and wandering through life aimlessly. We know where we are going with this article and review. Yes, Edguy did alter their musical style with Rocket Ride almost getting away from the heavy power metal style that we are used to but they still created a good album here. Superheroes is a song about just that-superheroes that have come to save the world from the influence of demons.
Trinidad is a song about all having fun in the sunshine on an island and just having a great time. This is the weakest song in the album and I wonder what Edguy was thinking when they decided to write this blues influenced song. Overall, Rocket Ride is the weakest album that I have heard from Edguy up to this point but it is still a good album with a style change.
