Review of the Album "Theater of the Absurd" by Greek Thrash Metal Band Amken
About the Thrash Metal Band Amken and Their Musical Style
Amken is another Greek thrash metal band that has made it onto the scene and yes, we are talking about Greek thrash metal once again! Amken’s 2017 debut album called Theater of the Absurd is a rather refreshing brand of thrash metal, sounding like Denver Colorado’s Havok because I hear a resemblance to David Sanchez.
In Spite of the Album's Title the Music on Theater of the Absurd Is Not Ridiculous Music That Is Overdone
The first observation that I will make is that absurd is another word to describe something that is ridiculous but there is nothing about this album that I can say is ridiculous. From the album’s outset as they say “one, two, three, four,” these guys are ready to play exciting and refreshing thrash metal! Shattered Sanity is a song that tells the story of how some people try to hide their despair, rage, and other feelings that they may have kept inside themselves.
The Song "Theater of the Absurd" Is Very Catchy
The title track in particular can get you hooked and you keep on wanting to hear it more and more. The interesting bass line leads to a very catchy riff. This title track is lyrically about the fact that some churches may use religion to brainwash the public. But with true prayer it is said that you are just one step away from purifying your soul. It seems that we are sacrificing our lives for the ideas and plans of others. The first line of the lyrics states it the best: some people are driven to achieve something bigger than their own petty needs. That is an example of selfishness.

More Special Analysis of the Song "Theater of the Absurd"
While the band Riffocity is more melodic and has that Kreator kind of influence, Amken is good but in a different kind of way. Since this is just the beginning for Amken it is not fair to try and compare them to bands that have been around for longer but their riffing is very respectable. I don’t ever remember playing a certain song so many times over and over for a long time that I have done with the title track of this album.
Analysis of the Other Songs in Theater of the Absurd
D.A.P. is a song that addresses the bad points of looking up to the wrong role models. Obedient Dogs starts out slower and you can still hear the bass guitar being played. Obedient Dogs lyrically describes a situation where people blindly follow the orders of their boss to fulfill his destructive plans and they feel superior to others. Absolute power has the power to corrupt people, organizations, and even entire nations. Wired is a song that tells us what happens when we are addicted to technology and when we are addicted to looking at a screen. This is a simple way to describe what happens when we become addicted to social media sites such as Facebook or Twitter. We forget what real life is like because we spend too much time looking at a screen. Through the first full listen of Theater of the Absurd, this album gets 95 points out of 100!
