Rewarding Yourself With Music

Updated on March 5, 2014

Music Is Priceless

Music brings joy to countless people every day and is relatively cheap to purchase and free to listen to on the radio. Music has its own rewards and I use music as a reward to myself each day because I treat myself as someone I respect and music is self nurturing. You are too, so make an effort to self nurture starting from today. You deserve it.

Musical Interlude

I was asked today what I do to get over feeling blue and I answered with the first thing that came into my head. I put the radio on or play my favorite music and before too long my mood has lifted and I am feeling better. Music is a fantastic stress relief, a mood changer, a relaxant. Music can invoke all types of feelings. Sometimes, depending on the music it can provoke feelings of doom and gloom or even anger, however for this hub I am talking specifically about music that you know makes you feel happy. I love new songs with a fast beat, hip hop, rap, rock etc but tend to steer away from country mainly because they remind me of a time in my life I would rather forget and most country songs just seem to be too intent on telling a story, usually a sad somebody done somebody wrong story or a soppy love song. I don't mind one bit if the words are unintelligible or just don't make sense as long as it gives me a feeling of wanting to dance I am happy with it.

Singing Like Nobody's Listening

Well I know for certain I don't have a good singing voice because I have heard myself when a friend of mine taped me at a Karaoke party. Wild cats would have been impressed with my wailing but I actually had thought I was doing a good job of it. I haven't had the nerve to sing in public since but I do enjoy singing by myself on the way to work with the music up loud so I can hardly hear myself anyway. I make up words or at least sing what I think the words are and if I remember to google the words when I get back home I have a laugh at how wrong I really was. Music is such a delightful pastime, whether listening to it or making it. I can take you to a different place even if only for a little while, it can help you see the light in the darkness, lift a dark mood and lighten your heart.

The Power of Music

Music with out words and natural sounds such as waves crashing on rocks or birds singing in the rain are also classed as music and can be used for relaxation and meditation. I recommend this for mind body and soul. Music and singing are used in churches in times of celebration and sadness. Music has a language all of its own, even music from other countries can be enjoyed even if the words are not understood. Music is powerful, just listen to the soundtrack of a scary movie and you will feel the fear just from the music in a particular scene.
