Rhapsody Of Fire

Updated on August 19, 2009

Rhapsody of Fire, formerly known simply as Rhapsody, is an Italian symphonic metal band focusing on grand metal operas with a fantasy flavor.

Formed in 1993 by Luca Turilli and Alex Staropoly, the band released their first studio album, Legnedary Tales, in 1997. Combining elements of classical, folk, and power metal, the album was unique to say the least. Their 2nd album, Symphony of the Enchanted Lands, was released in 1998, followed by Dawn of Victory, Rain of a Thousand Flames, and Power of the Dragonflame. These albums make up the Emerald Sword Saga, an epic recurring storyline throughout the albums.

2004 saw the release of The Dark Secret (EP) and Symphony of the Enchanted Lands II: The Dark Secret. This album began a new epic storyline called The Dark Secret Saga. With narrations (and even some singing on one EP) by acclaimed actor Christopher Lee (Lord of the Rings, Star Wars Ep. II & III), the album follows a band of heroes on a journey to find the last of seven black books, penned by an evil demonknight long ago. In the storyline, the seventh book contains the secret to resurrect the demonknight and allow him to reign over the world once again. Among the band of heroes in the story is the demon's own son, betraying his father to protect the world from his wrath.

In 2006, the band changed their name to Rhapsody of Fire for trademark reasons, and released their latest album, Triumph or Agony. This album continues the story of The Dark Secret Saga with the actual finding of the legendary Seventh Black Book of Nekron.

Unfortunately, the band is involved in a legal battle with a former recording label and it is uncertain when or even if their next album will be recorded. On the bright side, Luca Turilli has setup a side project that shows promise.
