Robert Pattinson was born in London, England on May 13, 1986. His full name is Robert Douglas Thomas Pattinson. Pattinson grew up as the baby in a family of five. Robert's father imported vintage cars from The United States and his mother worked for a modeling agency. He has two older sisters named Victoria and Lizzy.
Pattison began his acting career on the stage at a young age. He appeared in plays such as Guys and Dolls, Our Town, Anything Goes, and Macbeth. It was during his time on stage that he caught the eye of an acting agent. Robert was performing in Tess of the d'Urbervilles when has was "discovered" and began searching for professional acting roles.
Robert began modeling at a very young age. He was only 12 when he began accepting jobs as a male model. At the beginning of Pattinson's career he had many modeling jobs. However, as he aged the amount of modeling jobs coming his way severely decreased. Pattison is quoted as saying the following about his modeling career: "When I first started I was quite tall and looked like a girl, so I got lots of jobs, because it was during that period where the androgynous look was cool. Then, I guess, I became too much of a guy, so I never got any more jobs. I had the most unsuccessful modelling career."
Even though Robert's modeling career seemed to fizzle out when he was younger. He soon found himself back in the modeling world in 2007 for a Hackett's ad campaign and later in 2013 would be the face of Dior Homme fragrance.
Becoming an Actor
Pattison began his acting career by appearing on a few television roles. He stared in the television movie Ring of the Nibelungs and starred in the movie The Haunted Airman. It wasn't long until Pattison began being cast in feature films. He began his career in feature films with small supporting roles in Vanity Fair with Reese Witherspoon and in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Robert's role in Vanity Fair was ultimately deleted from the movie however, Pattinson's portrayal of Cedric Diggory in the Harry Potter movie earned him the name of "British Star of Tomorrow."
2008: Hitting the Big Time
It was in 2008, when Pattinson landed the role of a lifetime, which changed his life forever. Robert had experience minor success in the film industry prior to 2008. However, after landing the role of Edward Cullen in the film adaption of Stephenie Meyer's best selling book Twilight, Pattison would reach superstardom status over-night. The movie wasn't critically praised however, the Twilight fans came out in drones to see the movie. The movie was a huge box office success, which spawned four more movies in the Twilight series to be made. Robert would go on to reprise his role for each movie.
Finding Success During and After Twilight
Pattinson starred in many films during the time he was still starring in and making the Twilight films. However, none of his other films came close to receiving the recognition and fan following as his super star making role in the Twilight movies.
Pattinson starred in Little Ashes in 2008. The movie depicted the relationship between Salvador Dali and Federico García Lorca. Robert also starred in How to Be in 2008 but the low budget film didn't even make a blip on the Hollywood scene.
Still trying to break out of the Twilight mold he had been cast in Robert went onto to star in Remember Me, Water for Elephants, Bel Ami, and Cosmopolis. Even thought Pattison's performance in almost all of the movies was critically praised none of the movie performed at the level movie execs and Pattinson hoped for.
Still Trying to Break Out Of The Twilight Mold
Robert has had a few movies come out in 2014. The Rover is a western movie that takes place in Australia after economic collapse has occurred in the nation. Pattison stars opposite of Guy Pearce in the film and unfortunately the movie cost $12 million dollars to create and only brought in a box office gross of a little over $2 million dollars. The movie was a failure at the box office but again received critical praise.
Robert also appears in the movie Maps to the Stars which will be released in the USA in early 2015. The film is described as a satirical drama. Pattinson plays the role of a limo driver who is aspiring to be a screen writer. The movie also stars John Cusack and Julianne Moore.
Pattinson as also received the role as T.E. Lawrence in the movie Queen of the Desert , which will also star James Franco and Nicole Kidman. In addition to his role in Queen of the Desert he is also set to appear in The Childhood of a Leader with Tim Roth.
Many of the Twilight movie fans know that Robert is also a musician. However, the rest of the world may not have been provided this information. Robert actually had two of his songs appear on the first Twilight movie's soundtrack. The songs were called "Never Think" and "Let Me Sign" which Pattinson co-wrote with Sam Bradley. He also has three songs on the soundtrack of his little known movie How To Be. Robert can play the guitar and piano.
Robert Pattinson's personal life may be more famous than he actually is. Pattinson began a relationship with Kristen Stewart, his co-star in the Twilight movies which sent Twilight fan's heart fluttering with glee. However, while Stewart was filming another movie she hooked up with her director and Us Magazine published the lovely photos of the hook-up. Not only did Stewart humiliate Pattison with her indiscretion but she also broke up a family. The director she was having an affair with was married with two children. It obvious Stewart has no concern for anyone else's feelings except her own. She definitely wasn't thinking about the director's children or her boyfriend when she was hooking up with a married man. Pattinson sadly took Stewart back for a short amount of time, which made him look like a love sick and desperate puppy dog, however, finally his good judgment kicked in and kicked Stewart and her crappy attitude to the curb. Thumbs up to Pattison for using his brain, instead of another body part when finally getting rid of Stewart.
After breaking up with Stewart, Pattinson was linked with Riley Keough, FKA Twigs, Dylan Penn, Imogen Kerr, and possibly Katy Perry.
