Robin Mark - Christian Worship Music with Celtic Flavour

Updated on March 17, 2015
Cari Jean profile image

Cari Jean is a freelance writer and author. Her inspiring memoir "Having Faith" is available on Amazon. She resides in North Dakota.

Robin Mark is a Christian songwriter, singer and worship leader from Belfast in Northern Ireland. Because he adds his own Celtic flavor, Mark's music is unique in the genre of contemporary Christian music. Just take a listen to the beginning of the song below, Garments of Praise, that starts off with the amazing and intriguing sounds of uilleann pipes.

An International Audience

With the release of his first album, Captive Heart, in 1992, Robin Mark became extremely popular throughout the United Kingdom, Canada and Europe. His popularity continued throughout the 90's but it wasn't until 1999 that he became well-known throughout the world, including the United States.

His album, Revival in Belfast, was his first international release and became one of the top 50 worship albums for the next four years. His new fans then discovered previously-released albums and the song, Days of Elijah (released in 1995), which has become one of the most sung worship songs ever.

Come Heal This Land

Come Heal This Land was Robin Mark's followup album to Revival in Belfast. On this album, a few of his songs communicate the war-torn brokenness that is still found in Ireland today.

This album was recorded in Armagh, Northern Ireland which was the home base for St. Patrick's ministry. The cathedral is 1,500 years old and even though it is associated with St. Patrick, Armagh is a spiritually dark place as a result of decades of conflict and fighting. Because of this, there was much spiritual warfare leading up to the recording of the album including a fire and a suicide. During the recording a team of prayer warriors was sent in to intercede.

Reviewer John Ausmus from worshipmusic.com says, "For those that loved 'Revival in Belfast' and have wanted more, this is your album. For those that didn't ever hear Mark's last one, you need to get them both. This is Ireland at it's best."

More Robin Mark Albums

Robin Mark has produced a total of 13 albums with sales of over 2 million worldwide. Some of these ablums include:

Revival in Belfast II Another live album that was released in 2004 and became the number one worship album in the United States, Canada and Australia.

East of the River This album contains songs with bible-based lyrics and Celtic undertones. East of the River has been called, "possibly his best album so far."

Days of Elijah The Worship Songs Of Robin Mark All of Robin Mark's greatest songs on one CD.

This City These Streets A beautiful blend of contemporary Christian music with Celtic arrangements and instruments.

Year of Grace Recorded live in Syracuse, New York, this album has been likened to Revival in Belfast by critics and reviewers.

Fly Another live album, this one was recorded in Bangor, Northern Ireland. Some critics claim this to be his best album ever produced.

Liberation Praise Robin Mark's most recent album, featuring 13 songs that are a mix of live and studio tracks.

Besides writing music, Robin Mark has also written, Warrior Poets of the 21st Century which was released in 2007. His book charts a personal and Biblical journey through worship to underline the importance of a heart of worship in our lives as Christians.

Robin Mark, Worship Leader

Currently, Robin Mark is the Emeritus Director of Worship at his home church, Christian Fellowship Church in Belfast, where he attends with his wife and three children. It was at this church that his live album, Revival in Belfast was produced.

Robin Mark has produced hymns of praise and worship which continue to become the anthems for churches around the world. He doesn't think of himself as a songwriter, however.

In the year 2000 at the Toronto worship conference he said, "I write only when I feel I have something to say. I cannot sit down and write automatically or prolifically, God hasn't given me that gift, unfortunately! But whether it’s in music, song, business, family or other area of service, so long as I am praising Him, that's all that matters."

Invitations to minister come from all over the globe and he travels extensively to Canada, the United States, Australia, Singapore, Hungary, Italy and throughout the United Kingdom. In the midst of all his travels, he continues to keep a strong commitment to his family and his home. He also continues to pray earnestly for the healing of the society in Northern Ireland where he grew up, as stated in his song, "Come Heal this Land."

Lyrics from "Come Heal This Land"

Does a cry ring out from a broken nation
From a people who have been brought low
Was pride in our hearts, did we grieve Your Spirit
Have we blocked the ancient wells that flowed
Here is our covenant prayer
Who call upon Your name
We humble ourselves before You

Come heal this land, come heal this land
Come heal this land, come heal this land

May this land we love be a place of safety
Be a light for all the nations of this earth
May Your streams of love, may they flow here freely
Here where every stranger finds a home
Here is our covenant prayer
Who call upon Your name
We humble ourselves before You

Come heal this land
