It's just a jump to the left.
And then a step to the right.
With your hand on your hips.
You bring your knees in tight.
But it's the pelvic thrust.
They really drive you insane.
Let's do the Time Warp again.
Let's do the Time Warp again.

Let's Do the Time Warp Again!

Michael Rennie was ill
The Day the Earth Stood Still
But he told us where we stand
And Flash Gordon was there
In silver underwear
Claude Rains was The Invisible Man

- Science Fiction/Double Feature Picture Show

The Rocky Horror Picture Show is one of those films nearly everyone has heard of. Even before you see it, odds are you have an opinion. You have probably heard the music every Halloween blaring from bars and parties alike. The film continues to grow year after year, developing one of the most loyal fan bases in cinema.

It was not the most popular film upon its initial release. The Rocky Horror Picture Show was panned by critics and audiences. Then something magical happened. The movie was revived at midnight showing. Groups of loyal fans started dressing up at characters and acting out the movie in front of the screen. These shadow-cast performances became must-see events for film fans. It became an experience you had to be there to believe.

But it isn't just the shadow-cast that gets involved. The entire audience wanted to be a part of the show. The film has developed hundreds of call-backs that the audience yells at the screen. This is one movie where if the theatre is quiet, something is going horribly wrong. Throwing rice, getting sprayed with a water gun, and tossing toast at the screen are all part of the Rocky Horror Picture Show experience.

Then, of course, there is the music. The music is as catchy today as it was when it first debuted. You can't help but want to jump up and do the Time Warp with Riff-Raff and Magenta. And who doesn't love tapping their foot to Hot Patootie? The Rocky Horror Picture Show put together the perfect midnight movie for fans to truly escape in the theatre.

The whole reason we go to the movies is to forget about our problems and be entertained. We want to have fun. The Rocky Horror Picture Show is the very definition of fun. There are some movies that have come along since that try to recreate the success. Some have done well and other have fallen short. But no movie has equaled the overall entertainment factor and general experience of seeing The Rocky Horror Picture Show with a full crowd yelling and singing.
