Sean Rivers - Nashville Musicians
Introducing Sean Rivers
If you have never had the opportunity to visit Nashville and experience the ambiance along Broadway, whether upper or lower or everything in between, I highly suggest it.
I recently visited Nashville for one reason...music. Actually country music, but I was pleasantly surprised with an amazing mixture of most genres. Yes, I even heard rap, soul and some blues.
I paid extra close attention to the musicians who were performing at each bar I frequented and I frequented quite a few. I even brought some musicians back home to Orlando with me. Via Social Media. I was impressed with their drive and desire to fuel their passion...music.
I first heard Sean while I was enjoying my first taste of moonshine at Bootlegger's Inn on Broadway. I didn't want Sean's set or my moonshine to end! It was a perfect combination. The entire honky tonk was shining!
Sean did tell me that he had recently returned from Orlando where he played at the Tin Roof. How cool is that?
Sean Rivers was born in Anniston, Alabama but grew up in Fort Payne, Alabama. He attended college at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa where he resided for ten years before calling Nashville his home five years ago.
For your enjoyment I present, Sean Rivers...
Is There a Family History of Musical Talent?
Yes. My birth father is a singer/songwriter. He was a ramblin' man and still is at heart. My grandfather sung and played piano. My stepfather, the man who raised me, was a singer in several bands.
When Were You Born?
March 22, 1983.
Aries tend to live adventurous lives and like to be the center of attention, but rightly so since they are natural, confident leaders.
Go forth and prosper...
Favorite Food Indulgence?
These days I'm into healthy eating. Fruits, vegetables, salads, grilled chicken and salmon are my go to foods. However, I do occasionally indulge in my favorites which are buffalo wings and steak.
Do You Have a Post-Performing Ritual?
I pray. A lot.
Musician That Inspired You?
I am inspired by every musician I come across. The talent and the love for the music in Nashville is unheralded. I see something in somebody I work with every day that inspires me to grow as a musician.
Have You Had Vocal Training?
Yes. Long late hours in Tuscaloosa college bars.
Who Inspired Your Love of Country Music?
Garth Brooks. He single handedly turned me on to country music when I was 8 years old. I watched the "This is Garth Brooks" television special and I knew I wanted to do what that guy did.
Have You Been Signed To a Label?
No. I am however part of an entity called, Rock n Roll Basement. It's a collective group of musicians in Nashville that work with artists in our studio. We put out compilations of free original music and work on putting on original music events all around town. We give local songwriters and artists the chance to showcase their ability.
Do You Want To Be Signed To a Label?
I think a label is all relative. It all depends on where an artist is in their life. I spent years thinking I wanted to be on a label. I am now very happy with the freedom and encouragement to be creative as possible with Rock n Roll Basement. Some, but not all labels, can put restrictions on your ability as a musician. We believe in making it happen your way, when you want it to happen.
Do You Play Other Instruments Besides The Guitar?
I dabble in a bit of everything, but I am only comfortable with the guitar.
Do You Write Your Own Songs and Have You Written For Others?
Yes, I write my own songs. I have written songs alongside other songwriters and for other musicians, but nothing you would recognize...yet.
Who Is Your Muse?
My amazing fiance Molly. She saved my life. She took me out of a dark place and back into the mindset that I needed to succeed in this life. Musically, spiritually and socially. Molly is in every song I write and sing. She's everything to me, not just my muse.
I had the pleasure of meeting Molly when I was in Nashville at the Bootleggers Inn. I noticed cupid flying overhead as Sean introduced Molly to the patrons.
Where Do You See Yourself In 5 Years?
Good lord willing, I will be happily married to my Molly. I will still be making the music that I love and still making a living doing so. It'll be right here in Nashville.
How Long Have You Been Entertaining?
I've been told since my momma birthed me. Haha!
Publicly I sang in church some when I was younger. I was in school plays and choirs occasionally. I really got started in college though. Around 20 years old I began playing local coffee shops and moved "up" to the bar scene.
Your Advice For a New Artist?
Decide who you are and own it. Find yourself and be yourself no matter what. Longevity in a career comes from being honest with yourself and making career moves that reflect who you are as a person. If you are true to yourself and give your best at what you love to do...You WILL be successful.

Your Favorite Musicians?
Garth Brooks, his music was my first true love. Currently my favorite artists are some of the local independant musicians that I am lucky enough to have great relationships with.
Bee Taylor, Jacob Stiefel, Zachariah Red, Lewis Brice, Towne, Angelica Robinson, Justin Johnson, Evan Lee, David Borne, Fabrizio & The Fever, Johnny Hayes, Jason Martin, Lauren Crowder, Wes Cook, Nestor Andress, Daryl Aldridge and more that I'm sure I am forgetting. But those artists are the ones I listen to when I listen to music.
Which Artist Would You Want To Duet With?
Garth Brooks and any of the above mentioned musicians.
There will be two dates that they'll carve on your tombstone and everyone knows what they mean. But what's more important is the time that is known as that little dash there in between 'em.— Kevin Welch
Your Favorite Song?
At this time; "Don't Worry Be Happy"
Favorite Bar on Broadway to Perform?
It's a tie between Whiskey Bent Saloon and Bootleggers Inn. The staff of both are unbelievable people who have gone out of their way to be good to me. I also love the atmosphere and the chemistry we make in those venues.
We play our original music, when we want, we play rock and roll covers, we play country covers and we also take requests. It's always been a big fun honest fellowship with the crowd in those places and it's a joy to walk in the doors everyday.

What Are Your Thoughts On The Evolution Of Country Music?
Evolution is good in anything. It's not always my cup of tea but I understand it. Country music will always be here and there will always be "SUB GENRES" of country music that will pop up. What it all comes down to is it's all music. And it's not all for everybody.
I say make the kind of music you want to make and listen to the kind of music you want to listen to and let someone else figure out what it's supposed to be called. Country music is going to be fine.

Most Memorable Moment So Far In Your Career?
Personally; The day my buddy CT Prince called me at my Property Management job in Tuscaloosa 5 years ago and said, "If I get this job in Nashville, would you move up there with me?" I said yes! A week later he got the job. I put in my two weeks notice and a few weeks later we moved.
Musically; Would be a song I was lead to write called, Mind On Tuscaloosa. A story of a city we almost lost and a dear friend we did lose in the April 2011 tornados in Tuscaloosa. It's my proudest and most memorable musical accomplishment.
Favorite Song Lyric (Garth Brooks - The River)
There's bound to be rough waters and I know I'll take some falls, but with the good lord as my captain I can make it through them all.
