Introduction

Canadian born Director, producer and Actor Shawn Levy grew up Jewish. He now owns his own production company, 21 Laps. His career in entertainment was evident since he was young. Once he became of age he started to pursue it. As a teen he joined performing arts groups at St.George's High School in Montreal, Quebec Canada. Soon after he went to New York to attend a performance arts school, Stagedoor Manor, to train more. In 1989 he finally graduated with a degree in Performing Arts. Along with a degree, he received a MFA from the school of USC Cinematic School in 1994. He definitely showed that he was ready for the career ahead of him. He overcame struggles to get where he is and wants the future to do the same. He has directed, acted and produced many films. I know of him for two of my favorites,Cheaper by the Dozen and part two. Along with the films he is also known on the small screen. His most current one , Stranger things, started in 2016. He had to overcome mountains to get them all started. Despite the success he has gained over the years he thought to stop directing movies. Once he did, he founded the company named above. Shaw Levy has directed kids and adults and after this article. you would say that he has told you his secrets to deal with the actors, actresses and the children.

Directing Actors

Shawn Levy's directing debut began in 1997. In this film he directed actor Mose Malone. Malone played the role as Micheal. The film is an American romantic comedy Micheal lost his wife in a car accident. After his debut he directed a lot more films. He developed experience working with actors. A few of the big names he has worked with are the late Robin Williams, Steve Martin and Ben Stiller. As he directs them he seems to bring out the roles what he often does himself. The late Robin Williams was a great actor but a comedian. Steve Martin and Ben Stiller are as well. Martin was perfect in the film cheaper by the dozen. Levy did not direct both but he did set the bar high directing the first one. The way he directed three of the Nights at the Museum franchise were just as impressive. The franchise starred Ben Stiller. In much of his work you it is noticeable that males often have the leading roles. I honestly thinks that is the way that he likes it.

Directing Actresses

History has proven that many films with male actors leading the way often have a female behind them. Shawn Levy has seemed to admire that formula. In the film Cheaper By The Dozen Bonnie Hunt plays Kate Baker. Her husband Tom Baker (Steve Martin) is the frontrunner in this film. Kate is a writer that often spends time creating ways to blend her career with being a mom, wife and her career. The film is one of my favorite films. Of course you know that they are acting but to me it is honestly the way a family should be. I could watch that movie over and over again. The next is even better. Levy did not direct it but he played a huge role in it. He produced the film. Throughout his career he has made sure that his female co-stars carried what Bonnie Hunt did. Before and after hunt, he worked with many more actresses that displayed similar qualities.

Directing Kids

Throughout his career Levy has worked with with children. He directed and produced them in the cheaper by the dozen franchise. The franchise is about a family raising twelve children. The family started out in Midland, Indiana. The film is a remake of the 1950 film and Levy took on the challenge. The children were played by Piper Perabo, Tom welling, Hilary Duff, Kevin Schmidt, Alyson Stoner, Jacob Smith, Forest Landis, Lilana Mumy. Morgan York, Black Woodruff and Brent Kinsmand. In the next film they were all grown up. More kids kids joined the cast than those in the first. His experience directing and producing a films with kids playing significant roles was much. He took it to the small screen but is mostly known for his current work, Stranger Things, that started in 2016. This is an American science fiction horror web television series. The series was released on Netflix and the results are great. The children in the film are Finn Wolfhard, Millie Bobbu Brown, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin and Natalia Dyer. Levy is a great director/Producer when working with children.

Conclusion

Levy founded 21 laps entertainment in 2005. It is film television that is known for it's project, Stranger Things. Along with the success there was also criticism. The show produced great reviews. In addition the ratings on the Netflix network were huge. In the first season it was one of the most watched series on the streaming giant. In just 35 days it generated millions of viewers. He has his a great team working on the project including himself. He directed two of the premier seasons episodes. Along with TV there were the films. As you could see Levy was often busy as a director but why not? He is a great director that does not seem interested in stopping anytime soon. His great work has placed him in high demand.
