Singer, Songwriter Candace Green ~ Sharing the Light of the Gospel Through Music

Updated on November 17, 2011
My Lovely Sister, Candace Green
My Lovely Sister, Candace Green

This article is one that is very near and dear to my heart. It's the story and music of my favorite singer and songwriter as well as one of my dearest friends. This is about Candace Green, my beautiful and talented sister. Call me partial if you want, but as you read this article and listen to her music I wouldn't be a bit surprised if several of you agree with me.

Candace is one of the Godliest young women I know and has dedicated her entire life for the Lord's service. She spends hours pouring over her music and asking God to give her inspiration. It's not her words that she pens, but words that our Lord Jesus Christ has whispered to her heart through prayer.

Many of her writings were born out of true and personal experiences that she has encountered along the way, making her feel the music as she writes and sings.

I don't feel that anything that I'll write here will give proper credit to this young lady who is so completely dedicated and available to her Lord, but I hope that a few things that I share concerning my sister will fill your life with hope and inspiration as well - and show you the way to the very heart of God through music.

Read About Candace's Life

Candace is the second oldest of five children. She has been singing in church since the age of three years old and has been writing songs since around the age of ten. She has spent sixteen years of her life as a pastor's daughter and church has always been her life. She has never known a stranger and many are drawn to her magnetic and upbeat personality.

She is now the wife of Nathan, a minister, and they have four beautiful children. Nathan travels and preaches wherever there's a need while Candace ministers to the congregation in songs and testimony. On a lighthearted note, Candace has often got so excited while sharing testimonies and singing that she has taken Nathan's time away. There have been a few tease her and say that they were going to give her the offering.

Candace has a lot for which to be thankful and that is a big part of why she gets so excited. Candace was faced with a life-threatening sickness that almost took her on more than one occasion. She had disorders called, dystonias, and her blood pressure would be very unstable and her muscles would lose all control temporarily. She walked with a very unsteady gait and at times she couldn't walk at all and had to be wheeled in a wheelchair. There were other times, that her chest muscles would collapse against her lungs and would cut off her breathing. Once this happened and she felt herself dying. She could sense her spirit spinning through space and it seemed her time was over. However, God wasn't through with her and He came on the scene. When she was conscious enough to realize what was happening, she realized that she had been quoting the verse, "They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength, (Isaiah 40:31)," which our mother had just quoted to her earlier that evening.

Candace continued to suffer but held on to her faith. She would often spend quiet times with the Lord with her Bible in hand seeking desperately for an answer.

There was one incident that happened in this midst of this trial that she shared with me afterward. I'll never forget it. She was desperate before God but she determined in her heart that no matter what God chose for her to face in life that she would trust Him. She began to sing the song, "I'll Praise You In This Storm" from the very depths of her soul. Soon, there was a flash of lightning and a clap of thunder although there had been no storm forecasted. There was no more after that. We are certain that God was showing His approval on her praise in the midst of this terrible storm in her life.

After many long months of extreme trial, Candace went to a campmeeting service in Joplin, MO. She was so weak that she had to be practically carried into the service. She was thinking of leaving because she felt so bad but someone called her up for prayer. Her husband, Nathan, and our Dad got on either side of her and helped her to the front. As they begin to pray, she actually gained enough strength to stand a little on her own. They kept praying. Finally, as if she had been hit by a lightning bolt, she shot up and began running down the church aisle. She was totally and completely HEALED! That was in the year 2007 and she has not suffered with any of it since. God even gave her another precious little girl after that - a blessing she never thought she'd have again.

Candace and Nathan now enjoy adding this testimony to their ministry and giving others hope of healing.

Although there is much more to the life of this amazing young woman, I wanted to highlight a few areas that were important to me as her sister.

There is no way I could include all of her songs, so I have added a few of my favorites. Hope you'll listen and be blessed.

Song: "Brand New You"

A Few of Candace's Songs. Listen and Be Blessed.

Candace wrote this song "before" her trial of dystonias. It seemed like it was so prophetic of what she would be facing. I believe this song gave us all something to hold on to until God administered her healing.

Another really neat thing is that it was even based on, Isaiah 40:31, the verse that she had found herself quoting the night she was dying..."But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew [their] strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; [and] they shall walk, and not faint."

Song: "Where's Your Umbrella?"

Where's Your Umbrella?

This song is based on a story that happened in the ministry of Charles Finney. It is a story where he was asked to lead a group in prayer that God would send rain. When he got to the meeting, he was amazed at how little faith was shown among the people assembling to pray for rain. He was the only person in the crowd that had brought an umbrella.

Charles Finney is among Candace's top list of spiritual heroes.

Song: "He Gave Me His Word"

He Gave Me His Word

This song was written after an incident that took place during her deepest trial of sickness. Candace was often given encouraging words from friends and constantly heard sermons that were meant to encourage. However, in the midst of this dark trial everything started sounding the same and she wanted to hear something that she'd never heard before.

She prayed earnestly for God to speak something new to her heart that would give her something to hold on to. The Lord then gave her a vision of Jesus sitting before her. She came up to Him pouring out her complaint and wanting to know what it might be that He would have to tell her. Jesus then reached from behind Himself and pulled out a Bible and handed it to her. She realized that she didn't need to hear anything new but that His Word was enough; she could take Him at His Word.

Song: "Too Many Times"

Too Many Times

If we look close enough, we can all find times in our lives when God came through for us with a miracle. Whether it was healing, financial or something else, we knew the only explanation was that God had turned our problem around. If we look at His blessings like we should, we'll realize that He has been faithful "too many times" for us to doubt Him. He cares about each one of our lives and every detail. That is what Candace is trying to remind us through this song.
