So You Think You Can Dance Episode Recap and My Take – Season 6, Vegas Week Part 3
The judges for Vegas week are: Tyce Diorio, Mia Michaels, Debbie Allen, Adam Shankman, Mary Murphy and Nigel Lythgoe.
They have a new opening title sequence, I like it! The old one was getting, well, old!
New this year also is selecting the Top 20 on the stage in the show's studio.
The judges are continuing down the road of making it seem like someone might not be getting through.
Nathan Trasoris—He is the guy who first auditioned for Season 5, but was too young, so he got a free pass through to Vegas for this season. He is in the Top 20.
Next they showed clips of two guys and one girl being cut. No names were listed. I need Polaroids of all the dancers like the judges have!
David Hovhannisyan—He is a Ballet dancer from the Los Angeles auditions. They told him they were grateful that so many Ballet dancers had started to come out for auditions, and especially him, but that he needs to come out of his shell a little bit more. He was cut.
4 people have been cut so far.
Kathryn McCormick—She is a Contemporary dancer from the Los Angeles auditions. She is from Georgia and is homesick. She is a BIG crier, and needs to toughen up a bit. Especially because when she gets upset she starts to talk in a progressively higher pitched voice. She is the second person in the Top 20.
Channing Cooke—She is a Contemporary dancer from the Boston auditions. She is the girl they showed working at the ice cream shop. She has quite the personality and is very athletic. Nigel told her she needs to learn how to better work with a partner. She is the second girl in the Top 20.
Ariana DuBose—They just showed a brief clip of her. She made it to the Top 20.
Ellenore Scott—They just showed a brief clip of her. She made it to the Top 20.
Noelle Marsh and Molly Gray were roomies in Vegas and are both Contemporary dancers. Cat talked with them because they are worried that since 4 female Contemporary dancers have made it through there won’t be room for both of them.
Billy Bell—He is a Contemporary dancer from the Atlanta auditions. He made Adam cry, hard, with his final solo in Vegas, and all the other judges seemed quite impressed too. Debbie commented that his technique is already quite impressive despite his young age (19). She talked with him about the fact that he is currently a student at Juliard and he told them he has already arranged with them to hold his spot and his scholarships. Debbie said that’s good because…He is in the Top 20.
Next they showed them eliminating Jake Guidry and Brandom Dumlau.
Amber Jackson—She is a Contemporary dancer from the Atlanta auditions. She is the one that Nigel very firmly told that she needs to work on projecting herself out when she performs after her initial audition. They discussed that she has exquisite technique, but that exquisite technique is not enough on this show and that she needs to find that personality that says “Bam, I am a star.” They told her that they do believe in her. But she is not in the Top 20.
Russell Ferguson—He is a Krumper from the Boston auditions) He really did well during the auditions, it is surprising that he has no dance training whatsoever, because he is great, he is a natural dancer. He is in the Top 20.
Kevin Hunte—He is a Hip-Hop dancer from the Boston auditions. He is another one who was really amazing in other areas of dance, his technique was quite surprising actually. He is in the Top 20.
Next up—results for the Tap dancers.
Bianca Revels—She is a Tap dancer from the Los Angeles auditions. This is her third season auditioning, and she almost didn’t come back after being eliminated during Vegas week last season. She is in the Top 20.
Phillip Attmore—He is a Tap dancer from the Los Angeles auditions. Apparently he had some attitude issues during Vegas week. He is an amazing dancer; he was a part of the traveling tour of Fosse, which means he can basically do any style. They gave him a serious talking to about his attitude. And then…He made the Top 20.
Peter Sabasino—He is a Tap dancer. He seems to have just skimmed through Vegas week with a lot of criticism. And can there be 3 Tap dancers in one season? He is in the Top 20. (They did tell him he needs to really work at coming up in other areas though.)
3 TAPPERS IN ONE SEASON! WOW!!
Next 2 more guys and 2 more girls were eliminated.
Victor Smalley—He is a Contemporary dancer from the Atlanta auditions. He started off Vegas week with a Mohawk and they told him his hair was distracting…so he shaved it off. Good idea. He is in the Top 20.
Jakob Karr—He is a Contemporary dancer from the New Orleans auditions. He is amazing and is one of my favorites. He is in the Top 20. YAY!
Molly Gray—She is a Jazz dancer from the Los Angeles auditions. They told her she dances to young. But she needs to grow because…she is in the Top 20.
Pauline Mata—She is a Jazz dancer. She made it to the final cut last season, and then she injured herself during Vegas week this season and didn’t get to do the Broadway performance or the final solo. She did enough before that though it seems. She is in the Top 20.
Noelle Marsh—She is a Contemporary dancer. She was cut during the Broadway round in Season 5. She says she thinks that this season she has regained a sense of who she is. She is in the Top 20.
Next 2 more guys and 2 more girls were eliminated.
Jonathan “Legacy” Perez—He is a B-boy from the Phoenix auditions. They said he was amazing with what he specializes in. But he needs to bring it with the other styles. He is in the Top 20.
Paula Van Oppen—She is a Contemporary dancer from the Los Angeles auditions. This is her second season auditioning. She is in the Top 20. I LOVE her!!
We are down to Ballroom dancers, including married couple Ashleigh & Ryan Di Lello from the Salt Lake City auditions. Ryan was great in Vegas. Ashleigh struggled, but did extremely well in the Broadway round and they told her she had probably grown more than anyone during Vegas week.
Up first were the 2 remaining guys, Ryan and Gene Bersten (from the Boston auditions, who I am surprised made it this far, he was beyond arrogant at his initial audition). Ryan Di Lello is in the Top 20. He will be able to do some amazing lifts and such because his arms are HUGE.
Up second were Ashleigh and Karen Hauer (from the Boston auditions, she made it to Vegas with her husband, but he got cut). They told Karen she did everything right during Vegas, but Ashleigh grew so much. Karen is in the Top 20.
And apparently, Ashleigh Di Lello is in the Top 20 too. They are the first married couple to both make it through.
Wow, apparently the space for Ashleigh was available because Paula Van Oppen turned them down. She apparently was offered a movie contract. WOW! That is the first time we have seen that happen, and I am really bummed because I love watching her dance.
