Somebody Bigger Than You and I

Updated on January 30, 2016

Elvis Presley Sings

Words by: Johnny Lange, Hy Heath and Sonny Burke

Who made the mountain, Who made the tree, Who made the river flow to the sea, And who hung the moon in the star-ry sky? SOME-BOD-Y BIG-GER THAN YOU AND I. Who makes the flowers bloom in the spring, Who writes the song for the robin to sing, And who sends the rain when the earth is dry? SOME-BOD-Y BIG-GER THAN YOU AND I. He lights the way when the road is long, Keeps you company. With love to guide you He walks beside you, Just like he walks with me. When I am weary, Filled with despair, Who gives me courage to go on from there, And who gives me faith that will never die? SOME-BOD-Y BIG-GER THAN YOU AND I ♥

Song Sung by: Dave Lennard

In the morning thinking about the mountains?

This triggered a song from my heart. Started singing out loud the words to this song...somebody bigger than you and I. Remembering I had the music for this, and wanted to play it...see if I could sing it? My heart has been humming this song now for days:) Couldn't recall all the words to it, until I looked it up. It really is a beautiful song, didn't realize that this was a sung by Elvis, until I heard and saw the YouTube video's.

If you have time, I hope you can listen to the words...as you watch the scenery from this video. Such an amazing song of love:) The song seems to have been around for awhile now, maybe even before Elvis ever sang it?

There is so much that can be relayed to our hearts through song. Can you imagine what the angels in heaven sound like? I picture their voices sounding like musical instruments:) Words put into a song, can bring such a soothing feeling...to your being!

When I get down, turning on the music can lift my heart. Many years....it was that, my musical instrument would keep me out of the dumps:) Have you ever thought about what our world would be like without music? I don't think any of us...who can hear, could begin to relate to a world without music. I take that back, there was a few years gone by, where I had no music come from my heart. At that time, my world was without music from my soul...being in depression and feeling oppressed. The Lord changed all of that...a story for another time:)

Resting is a nice time to really listen to the music and the words that are spoken. From another's heart to yours:) Hearing the very breath you breathe, can encourage your soul:) You have life, be thankful, and get out and live. Think about what it is you would like to do, things you would like to experience...make some new goals, and strive to obtain them. The act of progression, moves you to new levels of excitement and anticipation...which add energy to your step:)

Do you hear a special kind of music, coming from your heart? What is the message:) Even when there are only a few words, or a part of a tune, get the paper and pen scratch out what is surfacing...maybe a little sketch of how you are feeling, a word picture you visualize? Have fun listening to your soul music:) Find someone to be in step with you:) Join in the dance of your journey, flowing to new heights of freedom, living out the music found within! Enjoy your life! while there is time to live:)

He who is bigger can take care of those who are small:)

Thank you for sharing this. I’m so glad that there is somebody bigger than you and I. I was a big Elvis fan – as a matter of fact I wrote a tribute hub to the singer who inspired Elvis. Someone said that music is the language of the soul and I believe it. I’m thankful that we have the music in our souls of Somebody bigger than you and I. Vote up, useful and beautiful. ~ eddie

Nice to meet you, whoever you are. This reminds me of one of my favorite sermons that I have ever heard. It was fro Michael Thomson. He had a rough spell and was shunned by his church, but the Lord spoke through him non the less. He taught on a child like faith. He compared it to explaining a lunar eclipse to his five year old son. His son smiled and nodded his head as if he understood. Michael realized that there was no way that his son comprehended the lesson. He was just glad someone big knew the answer. It gve him peace.

I learned this song as a young child and I would always sing it whenever I had the chance. I even found an old tape of me singing it a few years back. It is one of the songs that always comes back to me whenever I stop to appreciate my surroundings.

My favorite part is the bridge when it says,"He lights the way when the road is long...keeps you company. Actually I love the entire song. The words are just right.

Oh yes and I always stressed on that last part too - Somebody bigger than you and I.

You made me smile today. I'll be singing this all the time now.
