The work he did with Tom Petty and others deserves more recognition. When Roy Orbison heard his final draft of "You Got It", he was moved to tears by what Jeff had done with it. The timpanis, the piano part, all the extras were all Jeff.

I created a reddit post on why I think Mr. Blue Sky is the perfect song. Among the many reasons, it's the only song featuring a fire-extinguisher as a percussive instrument, the coolest use of the vocoder ever, captures what it was like to tune in a station on an analogue radio, ends with instructions to "please turn me over" capturing how cool records really were. I never tire of that song, though I can't listen to it if I'm unhappy, seems wrong to do so. That song pretty much defines what happiness is to me, a modern Ode to Joy.

He co-wrote Runnin' down a dream with Tom Petty which is probably why I like it so much.

Honestly,I feel like I could write an essay on why I like each of the ELO famous hits. Indeed, possibly my favourite song of all time is Mr Blue Sky-it's an absolute musical masterstroke and it's so life-affirming...

People LOVED his Hyde Park performance-I know I'm a tad biased but it genuinely received full marks from critics. One of me parent's friends who went to the Festival In A Day said Lynne absolutely stole the show.
