Music touches my soul, when I am not singing, dancing or playing an instrument, I am writing articles about the songs that I hold dear.

Musicians, like Norah Jones, can help you say "I Love You" with a song.

When it comes to sharing feelings of love many people have a difficult time finding just the right words to express the sometimes overpowering feelings that love can bring. These passionate feelings can leave many tongue tied while others are inspired to write love letters, poetry and even song lyrics. Listening to songs about love works to fill in the gaps between our feelings of love and our ability to share those feelings with those we love. Listening to love songs allows us to reflect on our own feelings as well as the experience of love.

I have put together a collection of top love songs crossing many music genres and time periods, that express just how much “I love you” so that you may enjoy listening and sharing with your loved ones.

Don't Know Much about History - Sam Cooke

This catchy tune originating in the late 1950s and sung by Sam Cooke, also known as the King of Soul, reveals that we don't need to be a genius to realize that our feelings of love are real. In his short life, Sam Cooke had 30 top hit songs including this upbeat love song.

Maybe I'm Amazed - Paul McCartney

This love song is regarded as one of McCartney's finest, written about the love and support of his wife Linda during the break-up of the Beatles. This song about the amazing power of love is considered one of the top 500 songs of all time.

Love Story - Taylor Swift

Following the in country music tradition, this song tells a story about love. Taylor Swift is the young song writer, singer and actress in the video highlighting a first love. This is a song that anyone could fall in love with.

Forever and Ever Amen - Randy Travis

Although this is a hit country music song about love, it crosses genres and generations. You don't have to be a country music fan or of a certain age to appreciate this eternal, smooth and catchy tune sung by one of country music's greats, Randy Travis.

Faithfully - Journey

Faithfully is a song about having to fall in love all over again after the ravages of time and distance work to steal love away.

"I'm still yours faithfully"

ABC - The Jackson 5

This hit song not only helped introduce The Jackson 5 to the world, it managed to knock the Beatles song "Let it Be" out of the number one song spot. With Michael Jackson singing his adorable little heart out about love, letters and numbers, this song will remain etched in the hearts of his fans and listeners.

I Just Called to Say I Love You - Stevie Wonder

With his original sound and style, Stevie Wonder soulfully reminds us that love is an everyday feeling, not just something that needs to be attached to anniversaries and special holidays. A simple phone call to express how we feel represents the real true love.

All I Want Is You - U2

"But all the promises we made
From the cradle to the grave
When all I want is you

All the promises we break
From the cradle to the grave
When all I want is you

You
All I want is...you"

A long lasting love will likely bear the some scars, but remain true nonetheless. A realistic love doesn't expect perfection, but beauty, in spite of the trials.

Love Me Tender - Norah Jones

Here Norah Jones takes a tender song and adds her own twist, her own soft interpretation to a song, originally sung by Elvis Presley, about finding a love that fulfills her dreams.

You Make it Real - James Morrison

With his guitar in hand and a look and style reminiscent of Bob Dylan, Morrison sings about love from the heart with vulnerability and sensitivity.

I Can't Help Falling in Love With You - Elvis Presley

Elvis Presley is a singer in a class all his own, sings about a kind of love that takes over and renders a person helpless in the song "I Can't Help Falling in Love with You."

Everything - Michael Buble

Falling in love means finding "Everything" in the eyes of another, it means feeling like life has a perfect meaning and that you a have a perfect place within the world. Here Michael Buble expresses these feelings using gusto and enthusiasm with a sound all his own. Thank you Buble, this is one of my all-time favorites!

These "I Love You" songs cross both genre and generation, ranging from country music to popular hit classics from as far back as the 1950s. With love songs from oldies like Elvis Presley and Randy Travis to some new comers like Taylor Swift and James Morrison, love songs can touch our hearts, allow us to understand our feelings as well as express them. Saying "I Love You" with a song allows us to share our true feelings even if we can't always find just the right words.
