Nick's Most Popular "Unpopular Guy"
The Seething Squid
"I am Squidward Tentacles and you better not mess with me"!
Squidward, the nasty sidekick of the beloved Spongebog Squarepants, through his raucous shenanigans and gnashing of teeth, likes to come off as a tough guy, but his skinny limbs and awkward features just don't pull it off. He plays the clarinet, yet loves to hang out his tower window and shake his fist at Spongebog, not to mention the fact that he gives the poor guy even more trouble at the Crusty Crab where they both work.
He's the "Grinch" of Bikini Bottom and you can count on him "learning his lesson" in nearly every episode. But he has a short memory. Soon he's always back to his same old grumpy self.
He does plays a mean clarinet though! One of his many wiley ways to charm the unsuspecting victim, usually someone whom Squidward wants to impress so he can get chummy - no doubt for a trick or a dirty deed.
Watch yourself, you could get "sucked in" by this little squid too!
Squidward trying (and failing) to enjoy a Sunday
Squidward deep down just wants somebody to appreciate him
At least he makes the show interesting!
Why write a HUB dedicated to an unsavory character? My "quality time" with my child, when he was younger, was often relegated to watching Spongebob Square pants with him. What I did was drive him nuts asking him all kinds of questions about the characters and why they do things. That was a good way for us to bond, but a nice by product is I know a lot about the characters. Squidward is my favorite to watch, because he is always making a fool of himself in his quest for admiration and perfection. He is fun to laugh at, is not offensive, and is a great example of how not to act. I used to like to tease my son sometimes when he got cranky and tell him he sounded like Squidward. That usually changed his tone.
I have to admit I can relate to him a little bit. Did you ever just get in one of those bad moods, when it seemed like everything everybody else did made you mad? That's a little like Squidward, but all the time!

The Voice behind Squidward - Rodger Bumpass
Squidward never met a mirror he didn't like!
Overheard from Squidward:
"I can't believe anyone would celebrate a holiday where a jolly prowler breaks in and leaves gifts."
"How did I ever get surrounded by such loser neighbors?"
"You may have hoodwinked everyone else in this backwater town, but you can't fool me. I listen to public radio."
"If I had a dollar for every brain you don't have, I'd have one dollar."

My kid and I were in and out, but caught some of the fun!
Hooray for the Ultimate Spongebog Sponge Bash!
....and Squidward - You did a pretty fine job yourself, big guy!
Watching SpongeBob SquarePants as a child is an entirely different experience than watching the long-running Nickelodeon cartoon about a sea sponge and his underwater friends as an adult. The main difference between the two experiences can be boiled down to one specific character, SpongeBob’s perpetually disgruntled neighbor, Squidward.— Stephanie Osmanski, Hollywood.com
