Stan Lee Confirms Doctor Strange Film! Marvel Studios Pressing Forward!

A little time ago, Kevin Feige mentioned all the plans Marvel Studios had for movie ideas and what part of the Marvel Universe they envisioned getting onto the big screen. He said he wanted to open up the cosmic world of Marvel to new audiences, the martial arts side, as well as the magical.

Rumors floated around about an Inhumans movie, but then we quickly found out Guardians of the Galaxy would pave the way for a Marvel space epic in films. Rumors also floated around about a possible Iron Fist to spin-kick his way onto the big screen, but little news has developed about that so far.

Then we heard a bit about Marvel Comics most famous sorcerer - actually, a Sorcerer Supreme - making a magical debut in movieland, and that seemed to be buried under the news of an Ant-Man movie confirmation. That was until about a week ago.

In a recent interview with Comic Book about the next line up of Marvel movies, Stan Lee answered:

"Oh they are all being made into movies! I can tell you there will definitely be a Dr. Strange movie! They are working on Antman, which requires really small cameras! Black Panther is being developed, one of my favorites…the Inhumans…All the hero’s will eventually be made into movies."

Last year, script writers Donnelly and Oppenheimer turned in a Dr. Strange script, and it was making the rounds to an undisclosed shortlist of directors “to try and sign someone up to ‘oversee continued development’” of the project. There hasn't been any news of Doctor Strange and his world of magic, spells and sorcery potentially hitting the screens yet.

While DC Comics and Warner Bros. scramble to figure out a way to get more of their more popular superheroes into theaters, it seems Marvel is boldly moving forward in getting some of their more obscure comic characters the spotlight in movies. The master magician Stephen Strange isn't as popular as Spider-Man or the Hulk.

There's little doubt that the Harry Potter world in films brought back the world of magic in the fantasy genre and was hugely successful. Why wouldn't a Doctor Strange film work?

According to Stan Lee it isn't a matter of if but when! I can only predict that Doctor Strange will be part of Marvel's phase III.

Very cool Michele! It's great to hear that your daughter is interested in sci-fi and fantasy movies and that she has opened you up to the great stories, imaginative worlds, and visual effects these movies have to offer. Thank you for commenting and hope you and your family have a very Happy Thanksgiving!

Yep, I think it's great news too Geekdom. A Doctor Strange movie could be really awesome, I think. He's not the most popular in the Marvel Universe, but he's a pretty interesting character that would work well on screen. Thanks for joining the convo!

Sounds very interesting. Before my daughter became interested in this kind of movie, I never went to them. But, now she is interested and she isn't driving so..... guess we will be seeing it!

That is great news! Last time I checked the script was done and just sitting on a shelf. I thought that meant it was dead for sure.
