Updated on November 9, 2012

You might have already heard of Startimes Nigeria, a popular pay tv service that works in partnership with NTA to bring tv lovers local and international channels via a decoder

StarTimes Nigeria is part of Startimes international, a Chinese company that is bringing technology to your doorsteps and has spread to many countries in Africa.

StarTimes is the reason why more and more Nigerias are switching to Pay tv and there really is no reason why anyone should be left out with their low installations costs and affordable bouquet options.

One good thing about Startimes Nigeria tv service is that unlike others, you don't need a dish to start watching a lot of channels on its network as all you would need is a Startimes decoder which only gets cheaper by the day. Last time I heard, there was a promo offering it at an all time low price of N3900 from a high price of N7000.

Why Startimes is better than other Pay tv service

  1. Low subscription rates: It is very cheap. With as low as N1000 for a monthly subscription on a basic bouquet
  2. Low setup fees: Decoder is cheap at a low cost of N3,900
  3. No need for dish

So with about N5000, you can start watching premium tv channels at home and then renew it monthly with as low as N1000.

Channels on Startimes tv

There are quite a high number of tv channels available to Startimes Nigeria subscribers and it comes bundled in the bouquet options you have chosen.

There are 3 bouquets on Startimes tv:

  1. Basic bouquet: About 24 channels
  2. Classic bouquet: About 40 channels
  3. Unique bouquet: About 49 channels

Listed in ascending order of channels. The basic bouquet comes with the least cost to subscribers and has the lower number of tv channels while the unique bouquet gives you all the channels on Startimes Nigeria.

How to Pay for Startimes tv service

It is basically a prepaid tv service and so you have to pay before having access to it. As a first time subscriber, you would have to visit their office or dealer outlet to get the whole package and with as low as N5000, you'd get the decoder and basic subscription for a month. For subsequent payments and renewals, you can always do them on your own by making use or Startimes recharge vouchers, website, bank deposit or paying cash at the Startimes office.

Office payment: When reloading at the Startimes office, you just need to go with your Smart card number and cash and your account will be credited.

Using recharge cards: Recharging your startimes account with a Recharge card is also easy. You just need to purchase the cards in the denomination you want depending on your bouquet and then loading your account by making use of your mobile phone. This works for Startime Subscribers on GSM networks like MTN, Glo, Airtel or Etisalat network. Follow the instructions and use the pin and your smart card number in the format:

Send it as an sms to 32020 or 32055 and your account will be credited. You will get a message feedback if successful

Bank deposit: Startimes has a couple of accounts with several banks in Nigeria so you can just pay into their account while indicating your smart card number too and your accountn would be credited.

Internet: You can also make payments for Startimes tv service using the internet by going to the startimes website or At, you can make payments with your ATM card easily after being a registered member. For the Startime website, just from the home page, go to customer care > Self service and you'd enter your details to credit your account.
