Steven Seagal: The Martial Arts Expert

Steven Seagal has been involved in Martial Arts since he was an early teen. In his late teens, he moved to Japan to learn Karate and eventually Aikido. Below, are some basic facts about Mr. Seagal and his career in martial arts. He is always calm no matter the situation and he has a passion for what he does and it shines through every single time that he performs or is teaching another person his skills.


1. Steven Seagal moved to Japan as a teenager and over time became a 7th Dan Degree Black Belt in the art of Aikido with lots of training and sacrifice. He is known for his skills in this area of martial arts. Those skills have been used in film, with his law work and for teaching others self defense techniques.

2. Seagal is the first non Japanese man to open an Aikido Dojo in Japan. He still owns one in America and teaches to people who want to learn the craft.

3. Mr. Seagal started out in show business by teaching actors certain basic martial arts moves to use in their action films. He has shown moves to actors such as Sean Connery and James Coburn.

4. Steven Seagal has opened Dojo's in New Mexico and California to continue spreading the martial arts to anyone who is willing to learn.

5. Mr. Steven Segal has also been involved in the UFC. He helped train Anderson Silva and Lyoto Machida for matches in the octagon. Both fighters credit Seagal with helping them perfect their kicks.

Anyone who has watched Steven Seagal movies can tell that he does his own stunts moves and knows exactly what he is doing. If there is ever any doubt about the skills this man possesses with regards to Aikido then do your research. Go to Youtube and pull up a video of Steven Seagal teaching different moves to his students. You can also observe just by watching him, that he loves what he does and he works hard and never takes shortcuts.

Steven Seagal: The Actor

Steven Seagal started out in Hollywood by training other action movie stars. He taught them basic martial art moves. Acting agent and former Aikido student of Seagal, Michael Ovitz, helped Seagal get his first break. In 1988, Steven starred in his first film which was a huge hit called Above The Law. Most of his movies are action films, and he always coordinates the fight scenes which makes them seem very realistic. The following is a list of Steven Seagal's top 10 selling movies.


1. Above the Law: Some of Seagal's best ever fighting moves were seen in this film. He leaves broken bones in his path while trying to get the bad guys.

2. Marked for Death: Seagal vs. Screwface. Seagal takes on a drug cartel and vows to take them all down.

3. Under Seige: Seagal does battle on a floating navel vessel. Tommy Lee Jones and Gary Busy star as villains in this action packed flick.

4. Hard to Kill: Seagal awakens from a coma to find his family dead and revenge is on his mind.

5. Out for Justice: Seagal at is best as a police with martial arts skills. One of his first and most popular titles to date.

6. Exit Wounds: Great fighting and shoot outs throughout.

7. Machette: One awesome movie. Although a tad older Seagal shows his fighting prowess especially with swords which he wields with ferocity.

8. Half Past Dead: Action from start to finish.

9. Belly of the Beast: Seagal is older but maybe even more deadly.

10. Fire Down Below: A story with a moral intersts. Seagal takes on global warming and he wrote and starred in it.

Seagal has over 40 movies that he has appeared in and he even writes and produces movies as well. He has a reality show about his life as a reserve deputy in Louisiana. Seagal continues to act in movies and to produce them too.

Steven Seagal: Law Officer

Steven Seagal has been involved with the law enforcement for over twenty years. He is a reserve Deputy Sheriff in New Mexico and an honorary Deputy in Arizona and Louisiana. Seagal trains officers and volunteers and how to deescalate conflicts. He also teaches them take downs and defensive maneuvers. In New Mexico, he works for the Dona Ana County Sheriff's Department and in Louisiana he helps the Jefferson Parish.

Seagal even has a reality show called Lawman, which documents his work on the streets of Louisiana in helping apprehend criminals. He carries a gun on patrol but, rarely needs it because even though he has deadly fighting skills he relies on talking and other peaceful alternatives to try and solve crimes. HIs message on the street is a positive one and with his celebrity status, you can tell that he makes an impact on the people that he comes into contact with.

      I love Steven Seagal, and I think we've watched all his movies. I didn't know that he was a lawman in real life, maybe because we've never watched his reality show.
