Sultan of Johor and The Death Sentence

Updated on May 14, 2007
Today, let the kopitiam refresh the reader's memory on Malaysian history. This tale concerns the southern state of Johor and it's all powerful monarch, before his highness ascended the throne.

The Sultan of Johor, then Tengku Mahmood Iskandar, has a very controversial history. First he was stripped as the heir to the throne by his father, Sultan Ismail, in 1961 after assaulting six people. In 1972-73 however, the young monarch faced a much more serious charge. He was charged with manslaughter and sentenced to death by another young prince who is now the Raja of Perak, Hon. Mr. Justice Raja Azlan Shah.

The Sultan of Johor (Tengku Iskandar), was charged with murdering a Chinese man who was said to be a smuggler due to a dispute. When he was caught, Tengku Iskandar pleaded (falsely) that the man he murdered was a Communist agent. The court, presided by Raja Azlan Shah, didn't buy this story and sentenced him to death.

His father, Sultan Ismail, stepped in to save his eldest son from a gruesome fate. Tengku Iskandar was sentenced to six month's jail and ordered to pay a fine of RM6,000. However his father told him in no uncertain terms that he would never ascend the throne of Johor.

And so, Tengku Iskandar's brother Tunku Rahman, became the heir. Now in 1977 Sultan Ismail's wife, Ungku Tun Aminah, died in a car crash. Subsequently he married again to Tengku Nora binti Tengku Panglima Raja Ahmad. Tengku Iskandar seized this opportunity to marry the sister of his father's second wife - Tengku Zanariah binti Tengku Panglima Raja Ahmad.

A palace coup was in the making. Sultan Ismail was very ill in 1981. The heir of the throne Tunku Rahman was away overseas. Suddenly Sultan Ismail passed away peacefully in 1981. What came next however was an even greater shock. Tengku Iskandar emerged from his father's death bed declaring that his father had pardoned him at his last breath and reinstated him as the heir.

What proof did he had? A document pardoning and reinstating himself as the Crown Prince with his father's fingerprint as a royal thumb of approval. The Chief Minister of Johor at that time, Tan Sri Othman Bin Mohd Saat, couldn't believe what had happened. He questioned Tengku Iskandar's fishy document. He had no power however to stop the royal coronation of Tengku Iskandar (neither did his brother who was overseas). Thus Tengku Iskandar ascended the throne of Johor and is now known as Sultan Iskandar.

The Chief Minister of Johor was pushed out of power in 1982 and the rest is history. Check the links to various shenanigans of Sultan Iskandar and his offspring after he ascended the throne (and became the most powerful man in Johor):

  1. Demolish Causeway
  2. Malaysian Royal Arrested Over Wedding Brawl
  3. Douglas Gomez Assault and Private Adam Amok
  4. Son of Royal Beats Policeman's Wife

Those are but a sample of the thuggish behavior of this most powerful royal family. The Douglas Gomez assault and it's consequences in law is covered here.

      Daulat Tuanku.

      apart from these few unfortunate mishaps, the sultan is actually very close to the people.

      one day, all these sultans will become obsolete to the eyes of the Malaysian people if they don't change especially the Johore royalty.

      it is indeed a very true and known facts how the sultan abuse their power, misuse the trust people have on them and ripped the wealth from the country.

      They should know that they are not God.

      Salam,

      Renongkanlah mengenai apa yang dibuat oleh Raja-Raja Melayu terhadap kita, mereka adalah para khianat bangsa dan agama kita :

      1. Sultan Pahang menentang Mat Kilau dan Datuk Bahaman tetapi membantu British untuk menjajah Pahang;

      2. Sultan Trengganu menentang Haji Abdul Rahman Limbung tetapi membantu British untuk menjajah Trengganu;

      3. Sultan Kelantan menentang Tok Janggut tetapi membantu British untuk menjajah Kelantan;

      4. Sultan Selangor menentang Raja Mahadi tetapi membantu British untuk menjajah Selangor;

      5. Sultan Pahang dan Sultan Kedah mengutuskan angkatan-angkatan perang masing-masing untuk membantu British dan Yap Ah Loy menentang Raja Mahadi di Selangor;

      6. Sultan Kedah membantu British untuk menjatuhkan Sultan Kedah yang asal dan sebenar dearipada keturunan Merong Mahawangsa dan kemudian mengangkat Baginda sebagai Sultan Kedah yang baru dan Baginda seterusnya membantu British untuk menjajah Kedah;

      7. Sultan Johor dengan bantuan British telah menyisihkan Sultan Ali di Muar, iaitu Sultan Johor yang asal dan sebenar, dan selepas menaiki takhta Johor, Baginda menjemput British untuk menjajah Johor dan sudah sewajarnya selepas itu tiada pemberontakan oleh orang-orang Melayu di Johor;

      8. Sultan Perak yang menentang British dibuang negeri dan Datuk Seri Maharaja Lela di bunuh oleh Britisih, kemudian Sultan Perak yang baru yang diangkat oleh British telah membantu British untuk menjajah Perak;

      9. Sultan Johor membantu British untuk menangkap Datuk Seri Maharaja Lela pembesar Perak yang memberontak terhadap British dan kemudiannya beliau ( Datuk Seri Maharaja Lela) dibunuh oleh British;

      10. Negeri-negeri Melayu di Utara Sermenanjung telah diberikan oleh British kepada Thailand dan dijadikan sebahagian dpd negaranya (negara Thailand) – kaum Melayu dan Raja-Raja Melayu tidak membantu untuk mendapat kembali negeri-negeri ini daripada penjajahan kaum kafir Thai;

      11. Raja-Raja Melayu menanda tangani perjanjian Persekutuan Tanah Melayu dengan British untuk memberi kerakyatan, hak politik dan ekonomi kepada kaum pendatang kafir – mereka menjual Melayu kepada kaum kafir, sedangkan orang-orang Melayu hanya berdiam diri sahaja;

      12. Raja-Raja Melayu serta para pemimpin kita bersetuju dengan Perlembagaan Malaya dan Malaysia yang kafir yang disediakan oleh British – khususnya mereka bersetuju dengan artikel-artikel 4, 43, 44 dan 161 Perlembagaan Malaysia yang kafir yang menjadikan negara Malaysia kita ini sebagai sebuah negara yang kafir;

      13. Pada hari ini Raja-Raja Melayu kita masih lagi aktif memberi tanah dan konsesi balak kepada kaum pendatang yang kafir - si Melayu bodoh kita ini masih lagi menganggap bahawa apa juapun yang dilakukan oleh Raja-Raja Melayu kita, kesemuanya betul dan OK sahaja!

      Lihatlah betapa jahat, sombong, butanya sekutu-sekutu Allah yang bergelar Raja-Raja Melayu kita ini. Mereka sewenang-wenang sahaja menjual bumi Melayu, negara Melayu dan bangsa Melayu daripada golongan Islam ini kepada orang-orang kafir daripada dahulu sehinggalah ke hari ini padahal mereka sentiasa mendapat keistimewaan demi keistimewaan baik daripada kerajaan mahupun daripada taukeh-taukeh Cina.

      I think the whole malay royalty system is fucked up as it is regardless which state you are residing in. We the normal tax payers (fortunately it wasn't me but my parents since I am part of the lucky brain drain gang) have to work their ass off just for countless expensive dramas that these bloody cunts produce. So if you have the $$$ (either from your parents, or from your own hard work) and you can still live without Msian food for a while, please join the brain drain gang and get lost from this country that discriminates you on black and white (yes the so called Constitution)...like seriously. To be honest, you are not appreciated and respected at all in Msia. I know this is completely against One Msia but please bear in mind that sometimes we have to bang our head against the wall to realize that this is just a stupid propaganda which would not work at the end of the day since nothing concrete would happen - just lots of BS !! So if you have the $$$, please think twice and consider yourselves residing in 'better' places and you don't need to be barbaric(yes like those cunts again) in order to get what you've missed all these while. Merry Xmas !!

      Anakorang(5 months ago) you are so right.if tunku abdul rahmin had become sultan as he should have,the johor people would have seen royalty at its best!i don't think tunku rahmin was one to cause grief,throw around the royalty tag and treat people like dirt when he was tunku mahkota.can you imagine how he must of felt when he was shafted by his dad & brother.i do believe that once again he showed just how deserving he was of the title and position of tunku mahkota by acting as he did with dignity,respect and not causing major sh*t to fly.can you imagine if the situation had been reversed? tunku iskanders reaction/wrath would have ensured alot of casualties!my dad was one of tunku rahmins best mates and uncle tunku,tunku sharia,tunku bakar and farrah were always so 'normal'.there was never any 'royal attitude'.i have the best memories of visiting them at the istana and what i called the 'big & little blue palaces',the ranch but especially of uncle tunku at the 'haunted' royal jahor gun club.it was he that always got me my can of fizz and he who play betted me one of his many cars or shot guns over something that was always totally impossible.tunku shariah was always warm,kind and just really sweet.tunku bakar was like every other kid who said his please & thank yous,had to shared his toysand was corrected by his parents if he forgot his manners.if uncle tunku (rahmin) had become sultan,how great a sultan he would have been!!!!! rewritten the history books

      Dear Devotees,

      Before I commence of my letter-writing toward. All of you, I would like to inform all of you that I am not satisfy with the lawyer, Dato YIP KUM FOOK due to his bad inspirit impressions because he sent an inspector to come to our Buddhist Temple to arrest me without any good reason, moreover, the lawyer, YIP KUM FOOK is not satisfy with Chief monk.

      When the Chief monk had me to go to his Temple already and he went away and left me alone to take care until Chief monk come back to the Temple first and he also told me not to leave the Temple if any committees or the chairman want to chase me out, you don’t leave the Temple at all understand? Then I said, alright? To the chief monk! On the second Day, YIP KUM FOOK came to our Temple and talk to me. He tired to make some inquiry from me and he asked me, where I come from? I told him that I came from Penang.

      Then, I told to the lawyer (YIP KUM FOOK) that the chief monk came to Penang and fetch me and invited me to accompany him to go to his temple in K.L. I am not aware that YIP KUM FOOK is not in a good terms with the chief monk, chief monk already in this way, YIP KUM FOOK try to create trouble with me unnecessary. That is why, the lawyer want to chase me out of the Temple. Then I asked the lawyer, why you want to chase me out of the temple? Moreover, the Temple is not belonging to you, UNDERSATAND? Then, I asked him, who are you? I don’t know you at all, you have no right to chase me or control me at all, UNDERSTAND? You are just like a layman only. Do you know the regulations that any the chairman or committee cannot control the monks and the Nuns at all, also UNDERSTAND?

      I scolded him like that. Then the lawyer (YIP KUM FOOK) is not satisfy with me and he told me that he will called the police to come to the Temple and arrest me. I told him to go ahead and called the police to come and arrest me. I won’t run away, I said to him like that. I have done nothing wrong toward you, why you want to arrest me? He said, he doesn’t like me to stay here. I asked him, why? Again. After this he got very angry with me, then he phoned up to the police and the police came to the Temple and told me to leave the Temple.

      I told to the inspector of the again, 1 am sorry, I won’t leave the Temple because the chief monk had instructed me not to leave the Temple without his consent, UNDERSTAND? Then the inspector told me to leave, again. I told him I cannot leave the Temple because the Chief Monk hasn’t come back yet. This time, the inspector got very angry with me and he took out his handcuff and try to threaten me, then I immediately show off my hands for him to lock me up but he scare, then again, the inspector told me leave the Temple again but I still don’t want to leave the Temple.

      Then I phoned up to the chief monk again and I told him that the inspector insisted want to arrest me, you better come back to settle the case for me. After this incident, Chief Monk came back to the Temple and take me to go to another temple and stay their. That’s all about this incidents! Last of all, I would like to inform all of you, that no committees or the chairman can control all the monks and Nuns at all also UNDERSTAND? “They are higher than the King,” also! So how can the laymen, the committees and the chairman to control them: – EVEN THE KING ALSO RESPECTED THE MONKS AND NUNS. Why the chairman doesn’t respect the monks and nuns? They will carry the sins later on, UNDERSTAND?

      what a pack of lies .its a shame for the site .

      such characters should be banned from using the site .

      i am an army officer and we must respect history . i have had the honour and luck to have interacted with his majesty sultan iskander. he was a great man a true lover of his people who always kept their comfort and wellbeing above his own and his famalies . thounds of famalies live eat and happly lead their lives thanks to this great man .he gave the locals an identety,he gave peace to the state and he gave fear to anyone who had evil in his eye.

      its was very easy for him also to sell his family jewels and property and go and settle in london and live a cushy life like royals all over the world, instead he chose an army carreer for his son and grandson.

      he has left behind a legacy which is a role model for all the royalties of the world to follow.

      his son too is a great human being so humble and concerned for his countrymen. the grandson went thru one of the toughest training schedule in the indian military academy to learn the basics of life the hard way . i challenge the people who talk negative and judge such a great man to try and follow his actions or the scrafices he has made .

      shame to anyone who talks bad or negative about such a fine ruler . he was a true ruler . pl do not try and find god in a human being . look at yoursef in the mirror , we all do mistakes but what's important is who does more good .

      Let the dead rest in peace. What is the point of criticizing the dead when he is no more? Should have done that when he was alive.

      One has to understand the royalties. That's why they are called " Royals" Celebrities of the nation. But history teaches us otherwise. We tend to look back at history and reflecte it upon ourselves occasionally.

It is just the muslim itself who manipulated God's law for their own benefit. As for muslims commented to this post, why the silence on this? Love your God more than anyhting...

      your thinking that any royalty (in general, be it malay or otherwise) has the right to kill at will is most twisted. if all the royalties behave this way in the modern day, they ought to have their asses dragged into prison. having balls is not a good enough reason to take the lives of an unarmed and defenseless man. if they had balls, they would have let their opponents a chance to defend themselves, one on one, a gun with a gun, a fist with a fist. no body guard intervention, that is balls!

      as royalty, you should behave in a proper manner where the general population can respect and see you as a role model. it would be very difficult for the common person to think that his/her king can kill someone and say that it is their right to do so.

      i have no problems that the royalties can live a good life, in a way, they deserve it as they used to be kings of the land and it was taken away by means of politics (in Malaysian terms, they were tricked by the British). however, i stand against taking or injuring ones subject.

      Lastly, may HRH Sultan Iskandar rest in peace. From the posts above, one can tell that he has his own set of detractors and supporters, but HRH has passed on. Let it be, there is no need to dig up the past. God bless his soul.

      I think the lineage of Johor royal family is cursed, starting with the late Sultan Johor himself. It's in their genes, they just have show how powerful they are. Take away their bodyguards and their guns... They are nothing! There's something deep inside of them that just wants to kill/hurt/humiliate people. Take his grandson for example, 2 years ago he decided to pistol-whip another member of a royal family. What the F*** is up with that!? If the lineage had changed to Tunku Abdul Rahman instead of Tunku Iskandar when Sultan Ismail passed away, maybe things would be different.

      As long there is a Malay Regiments....The Chief Of Armed Forces, the IGP and the PM position occupied by Melayu, then the throne of HRH's Raja-Raja Melayu stil exist. That the calculation.

      What we can do?

      Start being One Malaysian la, tolerate among us here and there. Leave in harmony.

      Hopefully... in a future if im bounce to somebody in JFK or Newark Airport...and the dialog run like this " Excuse me, are you from Chennai?"..." Sorry broh! I'm MALAYSIAN Indian!"

      Point is...

      Just to share, .... back several years ago. At the Prince Hotel KL. Wedding function. Im sitting with my fellow Malaysian non malay dude. The Late HRH Sultan Iskandar were the royal guest of honour. Its a Malay wedding. Couple of minutes before the function end, my non malay dude suddenly leave the table and dissapear. Later i found him at the Lobby entrance wating to see the Royal Motorcade. when i ask him why he standing there? This is the comment , " Kamal ah, if we wan to see secret service in action, we need to go to US maa, here oso can see wat". Happen that he like to watch how the police and JMF in action while the Royal Motorcade start to move with all the sirens and watever. Not to mention he like to see The Bentley and the Royce as well (me too!).

      Beside being childish, Im still proud that only the HRH's, the Regents, PM and DPM have the police escort in this country. Though sounds silly, but for me its a statement....that this land still have the Royalty....Malay still ruled the country and we are still around for the next century.

      Still a rilex note.

      Cheers my fellow One Malaysian!!!

      Dear my fellow Mr.David Chin,

      I'm totally agreed with you, however i just want to add...since Pu Yi the last Emperor of China from Manchuria then should the Manchuko claims the throne of China? How about the existing Anglo Saxon that populated the Isle of Britain?..Should they and their royalty cant claimed themselves as British?..Discussion never end up,there are so many books,manuscript and links if anybody try to be kindda "academical" here.

      Main thing... Once before...This is called Semenanjung Tanah Melayu and not Semenanjung Tanah Maori or Semenanjung Tanah Singhalese neither Semenanjung Tanah Yunan. And there were Raja-Raja Melayu existing until now. That the historical fact.

      Raja Muda football team recently had a football match with our local football club. We gave a good fight, and the Raja Muda likes that very much.

      Kembara Johor during HRH Sultan Ibrahim Ismail reign as The Crown Prince was a memorable affair that will stays in our heart as the common people.

      We are all proud of Almarhum Sultan Iskandar, no matter what Wikifuckdia, the west, the pendatang or whatever stories or ideas you people comes up with.

      Its good to be the King, and only one human being will be King at one time, and he is the CHOSEN ONE. We will kept on praying, may Allah S.W.T blessed Almarhum Sultan Iskandar soul, and Royal Johore shall rise to be the greatest.

      As for Iskandarsuckmykote, Randy Barat, Newgen and whoever posted all the bad words, be afraid, be very afraid and pray hard. You guys started this war but you don't know what you're fighting for or who your enemy was.

Unfortunately i guess you BLINDLY swallow whatever fed to you w/o researching. And i thing you don't deserve to be a Malaysian, if you are one for not knowing the culture and tradition of Malaysian society.

      `I blame people like you who is blindly loyal in defending them.' - If you read my earlier posts, you should appreciate how I became `blindly loyal' as you said. I had the opportunity to have them on my other side before being loyal, do you? I guess you are the one who is BLINDLY accepting whatever being told to you without gathering the facts.

      `And the Gonvenment is to be blamed as well for not putting their foot down on this nonsense.' - You are and infact we are to be blame for allowing such a government to exist. Unless obviously if you have not had the opportunity to fulfill your responsibility in the ballot box. And if that is so, I am wasting my time arguing with immature person.

      Dear Kamal,

      Spot on! If anyone do not agree with the royalty, there are three options available. Firstly let the status quo remains and suck it. Secondly,change the system if you can and stop whinging. Thirdly bugger off to any country w/o a monarchy.

      To answer all the question about us 'blindly' defending our royalty it due to that the only thing that we have left...Malay Royalty beside our Malay Regiment. As for me, all the fact or myth bout The late HRH Sultan Iskandar its just a normal act and behaviour of a Sultan or King all over the world past and present. That what make them different from the subject. I've been once been step by the HRH Sultan Iskandar on my foot due to my army boot not shining enough to his level of expectation ( its really shine actually and passed the army par) and i still remember at the same Military ocassion ,when a few 2 and 1 star Army General worried about being passed on the shining of their shoes or boot. This incident will kept as a good and hillarious memory between the soldier and officer that witness them all. May HRH remain in peace. Amin

      What is this nonsense about - who are we to judge him? Everybody has the right to judge anybody. Throughout our life we judge people, that is how we decide who are our friends and who are not. And how do we judge people? We judge people by their behaviour.

      And from His Royal Highness documented behaviour, I would respectfully disagree that he was a great Sultan. Having said that, his son,tengku ibrahim (a.k.a as tengku yem) and his grandson,tengku ismail are not great men either. At least not yet.

      And I hope for his sake, God would look kindly on his life. Theres a lot to answer for.

      So what manner do you propose for people to criticise the Royal family if they misbehave? I actually don't blame the Royalty for misbehaving, I blame people like you who is blindly loyal in defending them. What incentive is it for them to behave if there are no repercussions for their bad behaviour. And the Gonvenment is to be blamed as well for not putting their foot down on this nonsense.

      Dear newgen,

      I cant agree or disagree with you as we need statistic to support that. While I was in UK some two decades ago, there were issues with the monarch but until today, they are still there. Just ask ourself, who are the ppl that questioned their existence in the first place? A rhetoric question i guess.

      Dear Randy Barat,

      Its not that we cant be critical towards them but the manner must be right. Just like when we tend to be critical towards our father or elders. Whatever the misdeed they have done, they were tried in the court of law. Whatever the verdict, they cant be blame. Go ask the judiciary or go ask the executive if verdict not being enforced. Better still, ask ourself why we decide to elect the govt that act as it is before or now.

      How do you expect the royal family to behave in a civilised manner if we can't criticise them openly? Their misbehaviour is attributed to people like 'Johorean Boy', 'Anak Johor' and its ilk who not only tolerates their criminal behaviour but threatens those who criticise them.

      The more we mollycoddle the Royalties, the worse their behaviour will become.

      dear newgen(1),

      yes, if i don really know my neighbour, then i might not mourn for them. if i do feel pity for my neighbour, i mourn, and that happens when i know them a little.

      what i'm trying to point out here in a humble way is that i believe a big part of the nation does not really bother the royal bloods. I remember I did studied about them during our primary schools, but as we grow older, things get to become irrelevant. not sure if all the british love their kings too.

      any ideas what the people can do?

    • profile image

      Bugisbentanjohorean 7 years ago

      Dear newgen,

      So much that we try to be an idealist in our daily living, but most of the time while living in a society, we have to be realistic. We live in a democratic society where the voice of the majority supercede. And we agreed to that model once we decided to be a Malaysian. It does not means that the minority will be left out but they just don't get the priority and we have to accept the fact. I have to accept the fact I am the minority while completing my stint here in Aussie.

      Then there is this thing called global perception where other country looking how stable and unity is the society in Malaysia. Unstable and disunity? So long Malaysia, I'll invest somewhere else and that is bad for us.

      Lets look back into our own family then. Someone passed away, we still do the mourning in accordance to our belief. Not a forced one though but all abid to it even though the deceased at one stage screw our arse. Why? Because we do not one the other relative look bad at us, I guess.

      Now we look back at the bigger perspective. Since he is the head of state, he has the privy just like us at our own small government called family. And his obviously greater than us that allows mourning to be enforced. While living in a democratic state, like it or not, just follow the rule of law.

      Back to your question of does it makes sense? Yes it makes sense if you are ruling your own country where you are the head of state and government. In this context, obviously it does not makes sense as the majority have spoken for a state mourning. There is no wrong to disagree but when decision are made, just follow.

      newgen and all,

      By your nick i assume you are one of the younger generation here. Gen Y or Gen Z. Probably Gen X although unlikely. I also assume you travel alot around the globe through your lifetime and lucky enuf to be on the day their states dignitaries passed away. I also assume you seen during that day, there were no such thing as mourning or equivalent to wearing white/black wrist or cancellation of event to show respect. Bottomline i assume you are just bollocking.

      Try to be in China or Cuba or US or UK or any other states when their head of state or head of government or even their dignitaries passed away, and appreciate the similarity here.

      I was once like you, being told all the grandmother's stories about my Sultan even they do not even seen what they told me. I assume I Brogahill is in the same generation as I am since I did play sports during TBJ in EC. I also once used not to like them due to all the stories told and even just about to cross path with Sultan Ibrahim at one time in the disco Holiday Inn. I guess you must be suckling and not even known the disco exist.

      Well, that was the past. After I was tasked personally to them on official duty, the manner they treated me and my family, I concluded that all the stories told were exegerrated if not myth about them.

      I do agree that they are no saint but at least they change in becoming a better person. Whatever bad stuff they had done, is beyond your time and you all should comprehend it is just the same thing almost all of us did when we were at their age. Unless you were born saint and not even masterbate even once in your lifetime.

      Some said there is not point having them as tax payer money involve. Well do not forget that you are living on the land that used to be theirs and was rob by politician. Regardless of how this land being attain as it is similar everywhere around the world.

      What I suggest let almarhum die in peace since he had not screw you or your family stinking arses. Give Sultan Ibrahim the chance to make changes as I personally seen him did a lot. If you have a case, bring them to court if not, I sugesst shut the fuck up and move on.

      1. that opened the palace garden for public amusement

      2. don't take salary whilst he's become an agong

      3. that instructed his own army to partol state jungle - to track illegal hunter

      4. the 1st sultan delivered khutbah at district mosque, and natinal mosque too

      5. the 1st sultan don't like people to sembah him

      Funny things about you ppl. When someone mention about pendatang and whoever live here longer, you said it was history. But why d said ppl speak about d history of almarhum. If you want to put history in context than accept the facts of pendatang. If you cant accept the fact, do not discuss the history of anyone.

      After all, it was 1960s,70s,80s. What were you and your father be doing then? Fucking bitches on a one night stand or weeknend orgy? It was accepted then and it was history. Grow up!

      BTW, wikipedia??? Not a reliable source when anyone can amend anything they like and feels good. Even scholars wont accept wiki as a reliable source in their foot or endnotes. Wikipedia = Rubbish of the highest order.

      Iskandar Malaysia? He never asked for that. Asked Ghani Othman and other political master.

      List of good things? Here are some before 1957: acceptance of foreigner; allowing temple and shrine even in the middle of d city; trading opportunity; better living condition as to compare to China, India, Middle East etc.

      After 1957? GO ASK YOUR POLITICAL MASTER..

      Reasonably accurate article about the tyrant.

      A fb page has been created for the dead sultan:

      http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=266564719142...

      I have linked this page on the fb page.
