TV Series Dialogues That Will Remain Etched In My Memory

Updated on July 7, 2020

English TV series

Over the past decade or so, I have watched tons and tons of English TV series that it has become a part of me now. Having watched over 50-odd series, I could surely call myself a TV series buff or freak. Speaking of TV series, there are some dialogues that remain etched in my memory. And in this blog post, I am going to share some of the best dialogues that are close to my heart. Here we go!

#1. Barney Stinson

"Legen...Wait For It...Dary! LEGENDARY!"

To the ones who have watched “How I Met Your Mother”, you can never forget the most legendary dialogue ever by none other Barney Stinson. This dialogue was so unique that it had many variations throughout the nine seasons; one notably being this, ““Legen…wait for it…and-I-hope-you’re-not-lactose-intolerant-coz-the-second-half-of-the-word-is Dary!” Moreover, it was so epic that half of this dialogue was the final words of season two and the other half commenced season three. Just WOW!

#2. Joey Tribbiani

“Joey doesn’t share food”

Joey, one of the most lovable characters on FRIENDS had so many epic dialogues that it was really hard to pick out a clear winner, but then I had to. And the “Joey doesn’t share food” pipped the rest because like Joey, I too loathe sharing my food. Although Joey loved all his friends so dearly, there was nothing he loved more than his dear friend, food.

#3. Jake Peralta

Oh! Hello sir, how are you today? I am Detective Right-All-The-Time, and this is my partner, Detective Terrible Detective.”

Brooklyn Nine Nine’s main character Jake Peralta simply swept me off my feet from the very first episode itself. The rich blend of sarcasm and jokes that he bought to the table was something that most people who watched Brooklyn Nine Nine will so dearly admire. While there are tons of quirky and hilarious things that Jake utters throughout the many seasons, the “Oh! Hello sir, how are you today? I am Detective Right-All-The-Time, and this is my partner, Detective Terrible Detective” is the one to cherish.

#4. Chandler Bing

"Hey, Come On, I Say More Dumb Things Before 9 A.M. Than Most People Say All Day."

Ask any FRIENDS fan to pick between Joey and Chandler, and most of them will find it hard to choose one because both of them make the show so amazing. Chandler was this one funny guy who made FRIENDS what it is. While there’s a whole list of dialogues we FRIENDS fan can think of, I believe the "Hey, Come On, I Say More Dumb Things Before 9 A.M. Than Most People Say All Day” is the coolest. He utters these words when Phoebe, who is pregnant, knocks off a box of cereals. Seeing this, Chandler calls her a “cereal killer” and when mocked by Monica, Chandler uttered this dialogue.

#5. Scully

"Hello Unsolved Case. Do You Bring Me Joy? No, Because You're Boring And You're Too Hard. See Ya."

Scully is perhaps the real role model of the show “Brooklyn Nine Nine”. He never dwells on something for too long because to him, that’s not joy. He uses the same strategy on his unsolved cases. He is rarely motivated to solve his pending cases and focuses more on his belly. That’s right. And this particular dialogue by Scully just goes to show what an amazing character he really is!

#6. Abed Nadir

“Cool, cool cool cool”

Community is one of the best TV shows I have ever watched. Literally! Filled with a dash of quirkiness and loaded with comedy, this show surely is one of the best. What’s even more awesome is this particular character named Abed Nadir. His “cool, cool cool cool” dialogue along with the funny handshake he performs with his best bud Troy is something worth watching and giggling about. Cool, cool? Yeh, yeh!

#7. Charles Boyle

"We Delay Our Decisions Until The Universe Makes Them For Us. That Way, We Never Make A Wrong Choice."

The detective comedy show ‘Brooklyn Nine Nine’ has tons of so-called funny detectives. There’s ofcourse, Jake Peralta, and the sarcastic yet funny Rosa Diaz, but there’s something about Charles Boyle. His smooth and mostly funny words are something to take note of. There’s a bagful of awesome dialogues that Boyle has uttered over the past 7 seasons but none tops his “We delay our decisions until the universe makes them for us. That way, we never make a wrong choice." He is funny no doubt, but sometimes does have some words of wisdom.

#8. Jesse Pinkman

“Yo, yo yo, 148-3 to the 3 to the 6 to the 9, representing the ABQ, what up biatch?! Leave it at the tone.”

As much as Walter White made Breaking Bad awesome, Jesse Pinkman wasn’t too far behind. The student-teacher relationship between the two was one deadly combo. Waht was even more deadly was their dialogues. While Jesse Pinkman had many cool yet deadly dialogues, the one that caught my eye was the voicemail one. Whenever someone dialed Jesse on his number, all you could hear was “Yo, yo yo, 148-3 to the 3 to the 6 to the 9, representing the ABQ, what up biatch?! Leave it at the tone.” So cool, right?

#9. Cersei Lannister

“When you play the Game of Thrones you win, or you die. There is no middle ground”

One of the most badass female characters in perhaps the history of TV serials is undoubtedly Cersei Lannister from the Game of Thrones. Her knack of delivering some of the most badass dialogues in TV series history, compelled me to add her to this elite list of mine. One of her most famous dialogues that remain etched in almost all our memories is, without a doubt, this - “When you play the Game of Thrones you win, or you die. There is no middle ground”.

#10. Sheldon Cooper

“Bazinga!”

A genius and incredibly eccentric theoretical physicist, Sheldon Cooper, has been the undeniable superstar of the TV show “The Big Bang Theory”. His quirkiness over the 12 seasons has most certainly garnered him many fans, including me. While most of his lines could pass off as catchphrases, the “Bizinga” word which he uses when he thinks he’s being hilarious has been used by many who has watched the sitcom. Yep, me included!

#11. Bonnie Plunkett

“Classic Plunkett move. We almost do the right thing.”

‘Mom’ is another sitcom that I really enjoyed watching. The nagging and fights between Christy Plunkett and her mom Bonnie Plunkett is something that the show generally revolves around. No matter what the mother-daughter combo tries to do, they always come antagonizingly close of achieving it, to which once Bonnie Plunkett said, “Classic Plunkett move. We almost do the right thing.”

#12. Ross Gellar

“UNAGI”

FRIENDS is one of the best sitcoms ever made, without a doubt. All the six friends that are in it, bring their own unique awesomeness to the table. One such friend, Ross Gellar, has some classic dialogues that are still vividly stored in our heads. Ross was so unique that even a single word became a famous dialogue. While of course there’s “Pivot”, but nothing can beat his “Unagi” one. In one of the episodes in season six, Ross was teaching Rachel and Phoebe about the art of self defense but embarrassingly mixes up the Japanese word ‘Zanshin’ with ‘Unagi’, which meant eel (an electrical fish).

#13. Walter White

“My name is Walter Hartwell White. I live at 308 Negra Aroya Lane, Albuquerque, New Mexico, 87104. To all law enforcement entities, this is not an admission of guilt. I am speaking to my family now. Skyler, you are the love of my life. I hope you know that. Walter Jr., you’re my big man. There are going to be some things that you’ll come to learn about me in the next few days. But just know that no matter how it may look, I only had you in my heart. Goodbye.”

One of the most iconic protagonists in TV series history, Walter White from Breaking Bad is one character that turned from a timid chemistry teacher into one of the most feared drug kingpin. Tons of dialogues to pick from, there is none better than his final words that he spoke at the end of the show. His final words cut like a knife. His words (as seen above) were him apologising to his family for choosing the wrong path. It also tells about Walter White as a family man that he could do anything, absolutely anything to keep his family safe and secure.

#14. Ted Mosby

“If you’re looking for the word that means caring about someone beyond all rationality and wanting them to have everything they want no matter how much it destroys you, it’s love. And when you love someone you don’t stop, ever. Even when people roll their eyes, and call you crazy. Even then. Especially then.”

Ted Mosby is arguably the most hopeless romantic person in TV series sitcom history. Most of his best dialogues are regarding love, and while there are quite a few to pick and choose from, the one above is the one that simply touches the heart as Ted perfectly describes the definition of love in his own sweet way. Because as Ted says, when you really love someone, you want to give them the world because you think they deserve it.

#15. Otis Milburn

“Love isn’t about grand gestures, or the moon and the stars. It’s just dumb luck. And sometimes, you meet someone who feels the same way. And then, sometimes, you’re unlucky. But one day, you’re gonna meet someone who appreciates you for who you are. I mean, there’s seven billion people on the planet. I know one of them is gonna climb up on a moon for you.”

One of the most watched teen drama currently is Sex Education. This particular rom-com is filled with drama, emotion, and loaded with comedy. But it is more than just that as it also seeks to handle issues regarding love and sexuality. The main character in the show, Otis Milburn has some of the most wonderful heart touching lines as you can see above. It is so brilliantly said, that you can literally feel it. Perhaps, even relatable to many!

Conclusion

These 15 TV series dialogues are my personal favourite and will forever remain etched in my memory. Do let me know which from the above (or even some other) dialogues are close to your heart. Keep the comments coming in!

This list really made me smile! Especially since I've been using the 'Joey doesn't share food' and 'Unagi' nearly daily!
