Updated on December 10, 2017

Rahul is a TV addict who can never get enough of good shows. His all-time favorites are 'The Wire', 'Breaking Bad', and 'The Sopranos.'

CW has come a long way in last couple of years. With the success of TV shows like Arrow, The Flash, The Vampire Diaries, The Originals, Supernatural, and The 100, it’s poised to become of the most reputable networks pretty soon.

Even when CW wasn’t churning out one amazing show after the other, they still had fan-favorite shows like Gossip Girl, attracting a lot of audiences. While it ended quite a long time ago, it’s still talked about. After all, it was addicting, hooking you up from the outset and keeping you on the edge for more.

Being a huge fan, I compiled a list of TV shows like Gossip Girl. Take a look

The Carrie Diaries

Taking place in early 1980s, the plot of “The Carrie Diaries” revolves around a girl in junior year of high school. We see Manhattan from her eyes as she deals with problems of sex, love and high-school life.

Though not accurate, portrayal of 1980’s Manhattan is wonderfully done. It’s fun to see it all from Carrie’s point of view. It’s a shame that it had to be cancelled pretty early in its course. Still, you have a couple of amazing episodes to binge on!

The Vampire Diaries – A must-watch TV show like Gossip Girl

This sexy CW vampire soap opera is going to hook you up from the very first episode. The plot revolves around 2 vampire brothers and their old rivalry. When the come across a mortal girl they fell for back in 18th century, things spiral out of control.

It’s pretty fun to find out who she really is and how she really blends in the whole new world of immortality. As is the case with immortals, there are always a few people who’d want to see them gone for good - Vampire hunters, original breed of vampires, werewolves, witches, ghosts or/and few other people in general. When these many supernatural creatures are up against each other, you expect everything to be on the stake, and it kind of is.

The only problem with this show is, there is too much to absorb sometimes. There is so much going on that it can pretty easily overwhelm you. Give it a few episode, though, Once you get the hang of how things work in the town of Mystic Falls, you’d start loving what “The Vampire Diaries’’ have to offer.

If you’re looking for some gritty TV shows like Gossip Girl, “The Vampire Diaries’’ should be right up your alley.

The Originals – A Spin-off TV show like Gossip Girl

Don’t mistake it for a mere ‘The Vampire Diaries’’ spin-off. Well, it technically is a spin-off, but it’s so much more than what one would expect from it. In fact, I like “The Originals” much better than the TVD. Not only it’s more mature, it actually has a pretty intriguing storyline going for it – something that could be told over a good couple of seasons without it getting stale.

It’s bloodier and somewhat sexier than The Vampire Dairies. I for one love the fact that this show leans more towards serious drama than the cliché love triangles. The romantic scenes don’t feel like it’s been done to attract more teenage audience. It feels natural and wonderfully done overall.

And how can you not love the cast? They’re all so talented. Despite them being blood-sucking, murderous vampires, you can’t help but root for them when they go on a killing spree. This is the beauty of a show like this – good guys don’t get to win here.

And, vampires are awesome creatures!

One Tree Hill

What started out as Warner Brothers' last-ditched effort to capture a glimpse of its earlier shows’ success, turned out to be a monstrous hit. While this show is aimed at teenager and young adults, there is no reason why people of other age groups can’t enjoy it. The plot, while a tad cheesy, stays intriguing throughout the show, dealing with relationship issues, marriage, affairs, drugs etc.

Casting is beautifully done, too. Not only they’re eye-candies, they put in an authenticating performance as well. It’s not difficult to relate to them. While the teenagers are pretty good with their performances, it’s the adults who’re the lifeline of this show. The good thing is, they give adult actors as much time on air as teenagers. You’d find yourself caring about most, if not all, of them.

If you’re looking for some good teenage TV shows like Gossip Girl, One Tree Hill should be right up your alley.

Pretty Little Liars – One of the most popular TV shows like Gossip Girl

When four friends find out that heir recently-deceased friend is sending them mysterious text messages, threatening to reveal their deepest and darkest secret to everyone, they band together to stop her.

Who’s this mysterious texter? Why is she texting them? What secrets are about to unravel? Pretty Little Liars answer all these questions one by one as season progresses. You just need to give it some time to grown on you. You might not feel any connection to the characters in the beginning. Fast forward a few episodes, however, you’d understand what’s really at stake. As soon as you begin to know the background of every character, you get invested in the whole thing.

Just a little heads up; it’s pretty addicting. Once you get going, you’d want to watch one episode after another.

The plot revolves around a Kansas family, who move to Beverly Hills. It’s their story of adapting to the new surroundings with main focus on their two children, who don’t find it easy.

Don’t pay any heed to the negative reviews about this show. If you love TV shows like Gossip Girl, you’re going to fall in love with this show. It’s one thing to think that a show is mediocre, but rating it 1 out of 10 on IMDB is ridiculous. It ruins the fun for those who might have given it a shot otherwise.

Sure, it’s not an award-winning show. It still is pretty decent, though. Give it a shot.

Make It Or Break It

I am not a big fan of shows on ABC Family. Every once in a blue moon, though, you come across a show you can’t help but fall in love with. Make It or Break It belong to that rare breed.

The show follows a couple of teenagers as they prepare for Olympics. Despite a simple, cliché premise, I never missed an episode of it. If you wanna take a break from all the action movies and TV shows to enjoy something quiet, this is a perfect fit. Each and every episode is intriguing, hooking you up from the beginning.

The 100 – A great teenage drama on CW

The Earth is nuked! The only ones to survive were those who were in space. Fast forward 97 years, a few teenagers are sent back to earth to find out if it’s survivable. When they arrive on earth, unknown of the dangers that await, things spiral out of control.

I get it. It’s on CW. You’re forgiven for writing it off as just another 22-23 episode teen drama. Don’t make that mistake, though. For starters, it’s only 16 episodes each season, which gives writers a lot of breathing space. Less episodes means less boring speeches and more action! And the action is where all the fun lies. It’s really fascinating to uncover all the secrets of Earth one by one with them.

The first season takes its sweet time to establish itself. That’s not to say it isn’t good in the beginning. I’m saying that it’s a blast after the first season. What’s great is, there is no guarantee of a character sticking around. Your favorite character has just as much chance of dying a horrible character as the next character. Earth is supposed to be a radioactive anomaly where it takes everything you have to survive. And I’m glad to report that it will exceed your expectations.

If you’re looking for a serious drama like Gossip Girl, this is the show to give a shot.

Teen Wolf – One of the best shows like Gossip Girl

When a teenager a bitten by a werewolf, his life turns upside down. Not only he has to deal with his normal teenage life, now he has to keep up with is new life, facing the fatal dangers ahead. Will he be able to keep this secret with his girlfriend, family and friends?

With a great cast, gritting storyline and some amazing acting, it manages to set itself apart from other shows directed towards teenagers. Again, it’s not a feel-good drama. ‘Teen Wolf’ can be haunting, depressing, and often, suffocating. If you love serious, gritting drama, you’re going to like what Teen Wolf brings to the table. More people need to watch it! Anyways, with 6th season just about to air, you’ve a lot of catch up to. Get on it!

Heroes – An underrated TV show like Gossip Girl

When a few people get superpowers out of nowhere, they band together to prevent a devastating event.

The premise of meta-humans has been done before. We’ve seen it before in Misfits, Agents of SHIELD, Agent Carter, Daredevil, and countless other TV shows popping left and right nowadays. There is no doubt that these types of TV shows hit it off pretty well with viewers.

The question is, with no dearth of new content, why would you want to go for a 6 year-old show? The answer is simple; it’s pretty fascinating. You don’t wanna miss out on it. None of the recent shows have been able to keep the mystery going throughout its life. ‘Heroes’ has this much going for it.

The Secret Circle

When a 16 year old teen moves with her grandmother after the death of her mother, she learns that she’s a witch, turning her world upside down. She along with her 5 witch friends embark upon and adventure that’s going to get you hooked.

Again, don’t judge it just because it’s a teen-centric show. An adult would love it just as much as the next teenager. Once it gets pasts a couple of slow-burning episodes, it begins to get darker, tenser and more mysterious.

I think you’d love its unpredictable plot. It’s going to keep you guessing. There is drama, romance, witchery and much more. What’s not to love about it?

Honorable mentions – Other TV shows like Gossip Girl

Once you’ve given the above shows a try, you should try Gilmore Girls, The Hills, The O.C., The Lying Game, The City and Privileged. There are many more TV shows I didn’t include in this list. Do you think I missed out on anything important? Let me know in the comments section.
