Werewolves, vampires, hunters, and other hyper-normal creatures – the world of Teen Wolf is full of these extra mundane creatures. When a teen is bitten by one of the werewolves, his life turns all upside down. With his new powers, he discovers new dangers that he must face.
While you wait for another season to air, let us take a look at some other TV shows like Teen Wolf to keep you occupied till then -
The Vampire Diaries
The plot revolves around two vampire brothers and a mortal girl, who finds herself torn between these two sensual lady killers. It begins like a cheesy soap opera, but somewhere in the middle, it picks up the pace and the rest is history. Watch past the first few episodes, and you would not be disappointed.
The only problem with TVD is it has too many subplots. There is always space for a lot of things going on at once, which can overwhelm a casual viewer. Even if you are an ardent fan, you can still get lost in figuring out who lived, who died, and who was brought back to life! As ridiculous as the plot may sound, The Vampire Diaries is a pretty tangled show to kill some time. It is nothing that you have not seen before. Still, you don’t want to miss out on the entire nail-biting episodes it has to offer.
I have always said it, and I would say it again The Originals is way better than The Vampire Diaries. Do not make the mistake of rejecting this show off as a mere TVD spin-off. But it is true that the show started as a mere spin-off. Since then, however, it has managed to amass its own dedicated fan base. For those who love the gore part of The Vampire Diaries, but find the cheesiness hard to swallow; The Originals should be your new found favorite. Give it a try. All the five seasons are gripping. The show finally said goodbye after the fifth season finale, leaving the audience with a satisfying conclusion to an epic supernatural drama.
Pretty Little Liars
Pretty Little Liars is about four friends who have grown distant after one of their friends was killed. When they start receiving the same texts from their dead friend, they come together to stop her from spilling their darkest secrets.
These secrets have real depth than you might think these girls could have. The plot only thickens as soon as some of these secrets begin to get exposed. I am not going to spoil what they really are but believe me; you want to watch those heinous deeds first hand.
It is pretty difficult to care about any character in the beginning, as the first season progresses, though you will find that these friends are simply misunderstood. They were just at the wrong place at a wrong time. As they try to sort out their personal issues, they also try to figure out who is sending them those threatening messages. It can be their dead friend, or can it? With tons of spine-chilling twists along the way, Pretty Little Liars will do a pretty good job of keeping you hooked up till the end.
What happens when a vampire, a werewolf, and a ghost live under the same roof? You can expect a lot of misadventures and quite hilarious scenarios at once. The tone can shift in a matter of seconds. It can transform from being funny to a gut-wrenching scene, making your stomach turn.
While the show does not have a lot of high-budget action-sequence but it more than makes up for its to-the-point plot and some authentic acting. You cannot help but feel for those otherworldly creatures as they try to survive in a hopeless world. I cannot believe how criminally underrated this show is.
When a teenage girl gets brutally murdered, the hunt for her killer begins. In a suspicious town where everyone has their own secrets, will they be able to find out the psychotic?
Although vampires and werewolves are not new to the entertainment industry; Hemlock Grove finds a new way to introduce us to a scary and unknown world. With a mixture of some science-fiction and European legends alongside pretty solid production values, this show should be right along with other TV shows like Teen Wolf that you are planning on giving a shot.
Don’t pay attention to the negative reviews surrounding the show. I could never figure out what people did not like about it. No, it is not like The Vampire Diaries or Buffy: The Vampire Slayer. There are more maturity and variety on offer here. It’s a shame that it had to be canceled that early in its run. Nevertheless, you still have a couple of amazing seasons to watch
Game Of Thrones
There is a reason why everyone around you keeps talking about Game of Thrones. Given the number of times it gets mentioned online and offline, you might be forgiven for believing that it’s overhyped. Believe me; you would churn out one episode after another as soon as you boot the pilot.
Based on the book by the same name by George R.R. Martin, Game of Thrones tells us the story of kingdoms in the fictional land of Westeros; a land where no one is to be trusted. In the bloody and brutal race to rule the whole world, these families often entangle with each other while a grave danger awaits them beyond the sacred walls. Can they sort their matters out before an army of evil overpowers humanity?
That is as much as I am going to tell you about the storyline! You’re better off witnessing the brutal murders, backstabbing, stake-raising drama, and some unbelievable cinematography by yourself. It is just like watching a 10-hour engrossing movie with no frills.
Unlike anything on television that can get pretty somber at times, your favorite characters will find themselves in precarious situations. And more often than not, they’d not escape unscathed. The writers kill off anyone whenever they want for the shock value. With no permanent heroes or villains, things always stay refreshing, making room for some fascinating hours of TV.
Supernatural is all about two handsome lads hunting all kinds of demons, vampires, ghosts, werewolves and every other ungodly creature that needs to be loaded in their list. Over the course of 11 seasons, they have done almost everything you would expect a superhero can do, except that they have died too many times. Somehow, though, they always manage to come back to life. These brothers are too resilient to stay dead for a long time. While knowing that your favorite characters are kind of immortal killers with all the unpredictability and thrill, one can’t deny that Supernatural is tons of fun despite all its shortcomings.
The first five seasons are totally amazing to watch. After that, however, this series goes a bit downhill. Thankfully, the last few seasons have been good, again. And the writers have come back to their senses, realizing what made this show addicting in the very first place.
If you haven’t started watching it yet, you have a lot of catch up to do!
True Blood is a whole different beast in the world of supernatural TV shows like Teen Wolf. With the deep pockets of HBO and the freedom that comes along with it, you can expect a lot of nail-biting drama, sex, and violence.
The plot moves around Sookie Stackhouse, who can hear what others are thinking. That’s one of the reasons why she is still single! When she meets a vampire named Bill, she falls for him, opening a door for a whole a lot of trouble.
Those who criticize it for being too gory don’t get the point of this show at all. It was never meant to be taken seriously in the first place. It’s supposed to be a funny and light-hearted show that will entertain you for an hour every week. The first few episodes might leave you feeling conflicted but don’t give up on it as it gets better later on. If you are a fan of some passionate vampire romance, you are going to love what True Blood has in store.
Buffy: The Vampire Slayer
When a young girl finds out that she is destined to slay vampires and demons, she and her friends embark on a journey. With the help of her friends, she fights all sorts of evil while dealing with her teenage problems at the same time.
Do not let the title misguide you in any way because there is a lot more to it than just vampire slaying. With millions of fans spanned across the world, it is still an all-time favorite for its viewers. Despite the contradicting opinions, I believe that it deserves all the credit it gets. The storylines are always intriguing, keeping you in for a wild guess all the time. Similarly, the acting and cinematography never fall out of place. Of course, it can get cheesy at times with its romantic side-plots, but you would learn to love it anyway.
If you did not know already, vampires and demons are not the main focus of this show. It’s a “coming of age show” that highlights Buffy’s journey from a naive teenage girl to a legendary slayer keeping pace with her personal life; dealing with heartbreaks, death, and other issues.
The plot revolves around a cursed vampire, who moves to Los Angeles in hope of redeeming himself, embarking upon a quest to help people with their supernatural problems.
What started off as a Buffy: The Vampire Slayer, transformed into much more than that over the course of its run. It is amazing to see how characters evolve over the years. Wesley, for example, becomes a bad-ass from a mere side-kick. Watching his transformation is incomparable.
It’s a shame that it got canceled in its prime. Nevertheless, you still have five spellbinding seasons to binge upon.
Once you’ve watched all the above shows, you should give Awkward, Being Wolf on Campus, Werewolf, She-Wolf of London, and The Walking Dead a shot. I’m sure you’d like most of my suggestions. Did I leave anything out? Let me know in the comments section.
