Every year Barbara Walters chooses who she thinks are the most fascinating people of the year and although there are a few people that I can understand why they are on the list I am always disappointed by her choices. For this year there was a little bit of buzz and speculation about who she might choose. Some thought that Gabby Giffords, Charlie Sheen, Taylor Swift or even Casey Anthony. I think that some of these would have been very interesting people as well. Of course I cannot always get my wishes but here is who Barbara Walters picked as this years most fascinating people.

JESSE TYLER FERGUSON and ERIC STONESTREET

Jesse Tyler Ferguson was bornOctober 22, 1975 in Missoula, Montana

Eric Stonestreet was bornSeptember 9, 1971 in Kansas City, Kansas

Ferguson and Stonestreet are best known as the gay married couple on the television sitcom Modern Family.

SIMON COWELL was born October 7, 1959 in London, England. Cowell is best known as the mean judge on the television show American Idol and most recently The X Factor. Cowell is also an A&R Executive and Producer.

KARDASHIAN SISTERS

Kim Kardashian was born October 21, 1980 in Los Angeles, California.

Khloe Kardashian was born June 27, 1984 in Los Angeles, California.

Kourtney Kardashian was born April 18, 1979 in Mill Valley, California.

The Kardashian sisters are best known for being famous for doing absolutely nothing and having no special talents.

HERMAN CAIN was born December 13, 1945 in Memphis, Tennessee. Cain is best known as former chairman and CEO of Godfather’s Pizza and former candidate for the 2012 Republican Party presidential nomination.

KATY PERRY was born October 25, 1984 in Santa Barbara, California. Perry is best known as a Pop Singer who has scored 5 top hit singles all in one year. Perry is also married to English actor Russell Brand.

DEREK JETER was born June 26, 1974 in Pequannock, New Jersey. Jeter is best known as a Major League Baseball shortstop for the New York Yankees and for becoming a member of the 3000 hit club.

DONALD TRUMP was born June 14, 1946 in Queens, New York. Trump is best known as a Business Tycoon and television personality on the reality show The Apprentice and his catchphrase “You’re fired!”

AMANDA KNOX was born July 9, 1987 in Seattle Washington. Knox is best known as the University of Washington student who was accused of killing her roommate in Italy. Knox was accused, convicted and then cleared of murder charges.

PIPPA MIDDLETON was born September 6, 1983 in Reading, Berkshire England. Middleton is best known as the younger sister of Kate Middleton who married Prince William.

And the most fascinating person of the year is…

STEVE JOBS was bornFebruary 24, 1955 in San Francisco, California and died October 5, 2011 in Palo Alto, California. Jobs was best known as the chairman and CEO of Apple Inc.

I cannot wait to see who is going to make the list for 2012!

I guess she isn't that newsworthy this year but I found Martha Stewart to be fascinating, too. On this list, a toss up between Derek Jeter and Steve Jobs. Nice hub!

Ardie - I thought it was really strange that Kate didnt get in. I mean I thought she had the bigger year. I would have rather seen those sisters than the Kardashians anyday.

Polly - I total agree. But somehow Barbara sucks me in every single year. Her picks are not that great at all.

Donald Trump is a joke and Kate Middleton surely would make the top ten for this year. I really think Barbara is on a power trip, but I guess she has accomplished much for a woman. Interesting hub. Sorry I took so long to get to you.

pmccray - I could not agree more. Seriously I could have done without the Kardashians. Really!! I wanted to hear someone with a story.

I also agree. I think too many give Walters too much credit as a news personality, when in actuality she's more Hollywood. This is shown by the Kardashians on the list. What is the fascination . . I must be missing something unless their lives are compared to a train wreck. Her picks usually leave me dumbfound. Gifford should be top on the list. What a strong personality whose story is tragic and awe inspiring.

blainecindy - Yeah I was certainly scratching my head. But somehow I know that next year I will be back to see who gets picked. Thank you so much for the comments.

      Hi Triplet Mom,

I agree with you, too. I don't think she always gets it right. It seems as though she picks two or three, maybe four that are right on and then the rest come out of nowhere and you're left scratching your head and thinking, "Who? Really?" I also agree about the viewers voting. I think it would be a lot more interesting. Good article!

Alecia - Thanks for the comments. I was very dissapointed by the Kardashians being on and am glad to hear that the other hosts on The View felt the same. I just wish there were someone on the list that was stellar. I just didn't get that feeling from these choices. You might be right about having viewers voting it might be a better pick of people.

I have to agree with you TripletMom. Sometimes she makes good choices and alot of the time she makes some terrible choices. Her own co-hosts at The View were mad she put the Kardashians on the list. I agree with some of your picks at the top like Gabby Giffords. She had one of the most fascinating stories of triumph and inspiration. However, since they already did an interview with her on ABC. If we could vote about it, I'm sure the list would be more dynamic. Great hub!
