Hard to argue with someones personal tastes. Lots to like about this list but making "Every Breath You Take" #5? So many other great Police songs to choose from. Maybe it's one of those songs for me that got so overplayed I lost my appreciation for it. Same goes for REMs "The One I Love" and "Orange Crush" Sooo many REM songs better than those! Love seeing 'Mexican Radio" here. Not a song you see on a lot of lists.

My favorite songs from the 80s are "I like" by Men without Hats, which has awesome instrumentation. They are also famous for "Safety Dance." Rush also produced impressive hits in the 80s, such as "Witch hunt," "Subdivisions," and "Test for Echo."

There a couple of bands that come to mind that knowone has mentioned yet. One is the song "Talk Talk",ironically from the band Talk Talk. The other is a band called Split Enz who had a couple of hits,my favorite being "One Step Ahead". These really belong in the top 500.

      Hi there,

I just wanted to say that this is quite an impressive list you've got here and I won't argue the songs you've got.

I also know that such a list can never be complete, but

not even one song from the Dire Straits?

I wouldn't even say this or that one had to go in but there should at least be one.

Why isn't "Man In The Mirror" on the list? A great emotional song with gospel choir.

"Rock With You" is on "Off The Wall" album, it isn't 80s song.

Where is Cindy Lauper? In your opinion is U2 no one, for me is it "Billie Jean" ,excellent bassline.

No you wouldn't. You are a coward and real men of the old west did not fight over trivial bullshit like this. I compiled a list of every genre, when you have done anything this difficult, let em know. At least I'll be a lot more respectful of your efforts.

This would better be titled Dj Functual's favourite songs of the 80s in order of favouriteness. 'Where the streets have no name' would not even be my favourite u2 song. Sensibly, that would be 'In the name of Love'. Like all 'Best' lists, this list is highly subjective and entirely a matter of personal taste. How dare you put 'Sweet Dreams are made of this' by Eurythmics so low on your list? Both the song and it's MTV video where ground-breaking. And is 'Voyage Voyage' by Desireless even on this dodgy list? Your number 3 is a complete piece of drivel: 'Boys of Summer' by Don Henley. What were you smoking or sniffing when compiling this arbitrary compendium of what I consider an odd, annoying and impudent mixed-bag of both the Best and the most forgettable of the 80s? I'd challenge you to a duel with pistols at twenty paces if this was 1780.

Where's 'Paradise By The Dashboard Lights' or 'Sister Christain' or 'Total Eclipse of the Heart?' Those are really good songs. And I don't know if this counts because it technically came out in 1970, but 'Lola' by the Kinks was a really good and extremely popular song during the 80's.

Im trying to find a song, I cant remember the lyrics or song title... But I'm wondering if you guys could attempt to help me..

It's an animated cartoon type song that came out in the 80s or 90s if I remember correctly... And he is in a tall building and fires a rope over to another building and goes into this girls apartment... If I remember correctly the apartment is set on fire some how..

      I think it's "mr 'something' "

It's seriously doing my head in and I'm sorry I don't have heaps of details on it... I've been trying to find it for hours now :/

The Top 10 of the whole decade? It's a music sequence song from a movie. Something you write to move the plot along. You think it belongs with Michael Jackson, U2, Prince & The Police? Really? It doesn't even get one spin on a classic rock station, how could it compare to Tom Sawyer or Crazy Train? You are dreaming.

I'm looking for a very cool song, the only i can remember is the video clip. I suggest including on your list "Camouflage" and "Drive She Said" by Stan Ridgway. He made these about 3 or 4 years after leaving Wall of Voodoo. The first tells about a soldier fighting in the Vietnam War, and the second is about a cab driver who is forced at gunpoint to help a bank robber escape. It is a real shame that Ridgway is so underrated--he is an amazing songwriter!

I remember the 80's and from the moment i heard "Do you really want to hurt me" and their grammy for best new artist plus the millions ot albums they sold. Which I know most of you own. Aside from the gay drama, give these guys the respect they deserve!!!!!!

i'm 57 and been collecting since i was 5.the 80's was overall the best decade for music, hair and fashion and culture in general.i could list reasons why but i won't.instead i'll say that this list is awesome, however, like other posters here have mentioned, there are some songs missing.but that's would take a lifetime to add every decent song from the 80's..for example, lene lovich's "lucky number"...songs one wouldn't think of right off the bat.but hey, this is awsome list anyway.i was particularly picky in the 80's.i was into the new wave bands in particular(pet shop boys, the cars, falco)even though i loved heart and the bangles and the pop sound as well.i have been collecting music videos of the 80's for forever now,it seems.they're becoming more difficult to find however.i recently bought(from amazon) a 12 dvd set of 80's music videos, there's 31 on each dvd(373 music videos total).i have other sets audio cd's number in the high thousands/evry kind possible.50's to current, including tons from the 80's./again,i like your list./awesome/i miss tremendously the 80's culture and lifestyle and fashions
