The Best Action and Adventure Movies of 2012

Every year more and more great movies are released. As the years go on, our options just expand.

There were several very good movies released in 2012. This list features the 10 best action and adventure films released during this past year. Although all of these films may be considered action movies, they are all quite different from one another and great in their own way.

The Dark Knight Rises takes place eight years after Batman, or Bruce Wayne, goes into exile when he becomes a fugitive for taking the blame for the murder of a District Attorney. However, a masked terrorist known as Bane drives batman out of his exile in order to once again protect Gotham from evil.

Prometheus is set in 2089 as a group of researchers journey aboard the spacecraft Prometheus to a distant moon known as LV-223. The researchers are hunting for evidence of human origins after having discovered a star map within a cave that they interpret as being an invitation.

The film is full of action and full of danger but illustrates a unique idea of the origins of life.

The Hunger Games is set in Panem, a nation that included 12 districts. There used to be 13 districts until there was an uprising and the 13th district was abolished. As punishment for the uprising, as well as for entertainment, The Capitol host a Hunger Games in which one boy and one girl from each district is chosen to fight to the death.

The contestants are prepped and placed in an arena with various tools and resources, as well as an array of dangers.

In Snow White and the Huntsman, Kristen Stewart places Snow White, princess of Tabor. When the queen dies, Snow White's father remarries Ravenna (Charlize Theron) who kills him on their wedding night.

As Ravenna reigns over the Tabor, she drains the youth from young women in order to maintain her beauty. Ravenna soon learns that Snow White will destroy her unless she consumes her heart, which, in turn, will give her immortality. When Snow White escapes into the Dark Forest, Ravenna orders The Huntsman (Chris Hemsworth) to find Show White in exchange for resurrecting his dead wife.

Together they fight against Chancellor Cohaagen as he attempts to take control of the free world.

A totally action packed film full of twists and turns.

In The Bourne Legacy, Jeremey Renner stars as Aaron Cross, an agent developed from the same government agency as Jason Bourne (from the previous Bourne films). Aaron Cross teams up with Marta Shearing, a government doctor played by Rachel Weisz.

Just like the other Bourne films, the characters find themselves running for the lives and bouncing around the globe. Cross must use his skills to save himself and finish where Jason Bourne left off.

In Safe, Jason Statham plays Luke Wright a martial arts fighter that makes enemies with the Russian mafia. He come across Mei, a young Chinese girl who is also being pursued by the mafia. Mei is well known for being able to remember long sequences of numbers. A gang known as the Triads use Mei for her gift and give her an important number to deliver to the Russian mafia.

While en route with the number, the people travelling with Mei are killed and she takes off. It becomes a race for life as Mei and Luke are pursued by numerous gang members as well as the mob.

      You picked some stellar choices of classics and new movies. I do have to say I was somewhat disappointed with Hunger Games. I should have stuck to my rule of reading the book first and then seeing the movie.
