The Best Skits by Improv Everywhere

Updated on June 1, 2015

About Improv Everywhere

Improv Everywhere is a New York City-based prank collective that causes scenes of chaos and joy in public places. Created in August of 2001 by Charlie Todd, Improv Everywhere has executed over 100 missions involving tens of thousands of undercover agents. (Source)

#7 - The Human Mirror

One of the more entertaining missions, the troupe enlisted the help of twins. A lot of twins. They had them sit across from each other on the six train of the New York City subway line, occupying an entire section and they had to mirror the actions of the other twin.

You had twins pretending to be dating other twins, twins sleeping, twins reading. But one side of the train had to completely resemble the other as random people came on board and watched in amazement and complete confusion.

#6 - Where's Rob?

This one takes place in Madison Square Garden. They take a group of seven friends to the game and send Rob out to get food. His mission - to wander around looking lost while everyone else in the group tries to get his attention and help him make it back to his group.

Needless to say, they enlist the help of a few others in that section.

#5 - The Mute Button

The scene is Prospect Park in downtown Brooklyn, New York City. Multiple actors are there having a day in the park. Every time the organizer lifts his sunglasses, the entire troupe has to continue what they are doing, just without using any sound.

They have musicians, street dancers, a guy playing with his dog, a couple fake arguing. It's pretty entertaining when everyone starts to catch on.

#4 - The Guerrilla Handbell Strikeforce

We're not sure who comes up with the names for these, but this was classic. Picture if you can a lone man out on the cold New York City streets ringing the Salvation Army bell hoping to get a few cents in donation from complete strangers.

It's a lonely, thankless job that you have to have a big heart and lots of layers to do. You're out there for a good amount of time and the temperatures in that part of the country can be downright abysmal.

So why not add in a few more handbell?. Some with some size too.

#3 - Frozen Grand Central Stage

Over 200 people came together to stop on cue for five minutes in Grand Central Station. They froze in a multitude of different positions and people everywhere were enthralled to see what was happening. There were so many people that they actually stopped traffic in terms of the guys driving around in carts doing their day-to-day cleanup work.

#2 - The Annual No Pants Subway Ride

Started in 2002 with seven riders, the event allows subway passengers to ride the trains without pants on. Done each year in January, it has escalated to sixty different cities across multiple countries. We can safely assume that North Korea still sits this one out.

#1 - Star Wars Subway Car

This one was the one that really started to get them noticed. It's a hilarious remake of the opening scene of Star Wars where Darth Vader runs down Princess Leia's ship in space and accuses her of being part of the rebel alliance.

Only it's staged on the NYC subway lines.

Honorable Mention

These ones were in consideration, but just didn't quite make the cut.
