The Best Vampire Movies Ever Made. My Top Greatest Vampire Film List.
Fright Night (1985)
Charley Brewster (William Ragsdale) loves horror films. But his addiction becomes reality when he discovers his neighbor is a real life vampire. Charley tells his Mom about their blood sucking neighbor (Chris Saradon) but she's more interested in dating him. Charley's girlfriend (Amanda Bearse) thinks he's just making excuses to avoid issues with their relationship. Even his best friend (Stephen Geoffreys) thinks Charley is nuts. Desperate for help Charley turns to the host of a late night horror show. The actor doesn't believe Charley either but he's lured by money Charley's girlfriend offers him, trying to prove Charley's thoughts about his neighbor are outrageous. The only problem is: He is a vampire!
This movie is a classic, if you haven't watched it, you should. There's plenty of good scare scenes and a healthy serving of comedy too. Even though I was born in 88, I have a soft spot for these classic movies. We had a huge collection of VHS movies when I was a kid. I think that's where this love for 80's films came from.
Bram Stoker's Dracula
Based on Bram Stoker's classic novel. Arguably the most popular of the Dracula movies, this film focuses on Draculas' (Gary Oldman) real motivations for sucking the blood of young women. He goes to London to find his next victim , Mina Harker(Winona Ryder), who is the spitting image of his late wife. While trying to seduce Mina, Dracula does his best to keep her husband, Johnathan(Johnny Depp) at bay. All the while being stalked by fixated vampire hunter, Van Helsing.(Keanu Reeves)
Probably my favorite Dracula movie. The costumes and sets are totally awesome and the soundtrack is great. I love how this film combined all the good things of other Dracula films and also added it's own singleness. The awesome cast also adds to it's over all quality.
Interview With The Vampire: The Vampire Chronicles
Based on the epic horror/romance novel by Anne Rice. A reporter (Christian Slater) interviews, Louis (Brad Pitt), a man claiming to be a 200 year old blood sucker. His story begins in 18th century New Orleans where Louis first meets the vampire Lestat (Tom Cruise). Lestat turns Louis into a creature of the night but Louis isn't as fond of the vampire life as Lestat had hoped he would be. The duo soon adopt a new vampire, a motherless young girl (Kirsten Dunst), turned immortal by Louis. The three continue to live through the ages interacting with others of their kind and trying to discover the truth about who or what they truly are.
I love this movie. In my opinion Anne Rice is the one who started the whole blood sucker craze. She was the first to really dive into what it was like to be a vampire and the challenges they faced while existing among humans. If you haven't seen this film, you must! I suggest reading the novel as well. Or even all of them, The Vampire Lestat is my favorite of the series.
The Lost Boys
A film about a single mom and her two sons. They move to California, seedy beach side town called Santa Clara. The boys' mother, Lucy (Diane Weist) gets a job at a video store from the owner , Max (Edward Herrmann). One of the boys Sam begins hanging out with the frog brothers (Corey Feldman and Jamison Newlander). The Frog brothers work at a comic booc store and are obsessed with vampires. Meanwhile, Michael (Jason Patric) falls in love with Star (Jame Gertz) but Star is part of a group of crazy and strange teens led by David (Keifer Sutherland). Soon the truth comes to light and the brothers find themselves in the battle of a lifetime.
OMG, this is one of the greatest 80's movies, EVER! I can't even express how awesome this film is. The soundtrack is stellar, it's like a 2 hour long music video. Many careers got launched by this film and Keifer Sutherland is awesome in it. If you've been living under a rock, crawl out and GO WATCH THIS MOVIE!
From Dusk Till Dawn
An action/horror movie directed by Robert Rodriguez and written by Quentin Tarantino. Ritchie(Tarantino) and Seth Gecko(George Clooney) are two hardcore thug brothers. After a slew of bloody robberies the two brothers decide to head to Mexico and live the good life. Their only problem is getting over the border. To accomplish this task they kidnap a preacher (Harvey Keitel)and his two kids, Scott (Ernest Liu) and Kate (Juliette Lewis), and use their RV to cross the border. Once In Mexico they drive to a bar where the sadistic brothers are supposed to meet their partner. Once in the bar the group of five discover the bar is is actually a front for vicous, man eating vampires!
When I first watched this movie I had no idea there would be vampires in it. Once the blood suckers starting ripping people apart I was like, WTF!?!?! This movie's pretty bloody and has some awesomely gross scenes.
From Dusk Till Dawn Trailer
Based on the Marvel character. Blade's mother is bitten by a vampire while pregnant and gives birth to a son who is half vampire and half human. Blade (Wesley Snipes) has all the powers of a vampire but he can survive in the daylight. Blade becomes a vampire hunter and is joined by his partner, Whistler (Kris Kristofferson). Blade saves Karen (N'Bushe Wright) from a vampire bite, saving her from turning. Soon Blade uncovers a plot by the vampire , Deacon Frost (Stephen Dorff) to bring down the old Vampire Council. Frost uses computers to translate the book of Erebus and discovers a way to turn everyone on Earth into a vampire. Blade must defeat frost to save the planet.
Even though critics gave this movie some pretty crappy ratings, it got positive feedback from fans of the Marvel character. Personally, I love the awesome action scenes and Wesley Snipes does a great job portraying bad-ass Blade. Stephen Dorff makes a pretty awesome vampire as well.
A story about the greatest monster hunter in the world, Van Helsing (Hugh Jackman). Helsing has spent his entire life fighting the evil monsters of the world. Helsing is summoned to Transylvania by Anna Valerious (Kate Beckinsale), the last of a long line of royals who have been fighting vampires for decades. Van Helsing discovers Count Dracula (Richard Roxburgh) has been breeding with his wives who have in turn given birth to thousand of creatures. Born dead, Dracula must find a way to bring his children to life. He steals Dr. Victor Frankenstein's research and plans to use it to accomplish his diabolical plan. Van Helsing must stop him before Dracula finds Frankenstein's monster, who holds the secret to bringing his children to life.
Another movie that got terrible reviews by fans and critics, alike. Most people would argue that his movie shouldn't even be on this list. I like this movie and watch it all the time. It might not be the greatest vampire movie ever but I think it still qualifies as one of the best, it's definitely one of my favorites.
Van Hellsing Trailer
Michael Corvin (Scott Speedman), a medical student stumbles upon a fight on his way home from from a long day of work. Michael doesn't realize it's a rumble between Vampires and Lycans. Selene (Kate Beckinsale) hears of a plan by the Lycans to capture Michael and begins following him around the city. Selene finds herself becoming too interested in Michael and begins falling for him. Soon Michael is attacked by the head Lycan, Lucian (Michael Sheen). Selene saves Michael by biting him before he turns into a full-blown werewolf. Soon it becomes evident why the Lycans were searching for Michael. He holds the key to a new breed of monster. A mix between Vampire and Lycan.
Once again critics have bashed this movie while fans seemed to have loved it. It's definitely one of my favorites and it spawned a prequel plus two sequels.
Hotel Transylvania Trailer
Hotel Transylvania is Dracula's (Adam Sandler) lavish resort. This isn't your average resort, though. It's a resort for the monsters of the world. A place where monsters can be monsters, free of the threat of humans. Dracula's daughter, Mavis (Selena Gomez) is about to have her 118th birthday. So, Dracula invites some of the world's most famous Monsters to come celebrate at the hotel for Mavis's birthday party. But Dracula soon gets thrown a curve ball in the form of an ordinary boy who takes a liking to Mavis.
My expectations were not high at all for this animated movie but it surprised me. It had a good story and genuinely made me laugh. The human boy in the movie cracked me up. A good vampire movie to watch with the kids!
30 Days Of Night
An adaption from the comic-book series of the same name. In Barrow, Alaska the town is in darkness for 30 days once a year, due to it's location North of the Arctic Circle. This time something is different. An evil is stirring in the darkness. A group of psychotic vampires descends upon the town and soon takes over the streets, feeding on its' citizens. The sheriff (Josh Hartnett), his wife (Melissa George), and a small group of survivors must try to stay alive. They must make a decision to hide or try to save the few other citizens left in the town who are fighting for their lives.
Yup, I saved the best for last. This is possibly the best vampire movie made in over 30 years. This movie is terrifying and I like that! The idea is simple: What would happen if your town was attacked by a group of vampires and their only weakness (the sun) is taken out of the equation? Haven't seen it? Go, go now and watch it...please!
