The Best and Funniest Disney Villains

Updated on March 16, 2017

Disney has produced countless animated productions, many of which are unforgettable classics. Sometimes the villain that appears in the movie is particularly memorable, and quite often people's favourite characters.

This article lists some of the best Disney villains, including lines from the movies that make them so great, and video clips of their best moments.

Gaston

Gaston | Beauty and the Beast

Disney changed up the somewhat controversial "Ugly equals evil, beautiful equals good" theme, and made a dashingly handsome villain in the 1991 animation 'Beauty and the Beast'. The only problem is that he knows it, and thinks he can get any girl he likes. And the girl he likes is Belle.

Gaston has some hilarious lines and such a funny personality that although he goes crazy-evil near the end of the film, he's likable. When he proposes to Belle, he not only tells her she's lucky and refers to her as "my little wife", but organises the wedding before she even knows anything about it!

Jafar

Jafar | Aladdin

Jafar is a sarcastic server of the Sultan who wants to overthrow Jasmine's father and become Sultan himself. He plans to do this by gaining control of the magic lamp, and using the Genie's power to get what he wants.

Jafar has some amazing lines that had viewers rolling in their chairs with laughter when this animated gem was released in 1992. "You're speechless, I see. A fine quality in a wife," being his personal best. And let's not forget the countless sarcasm.

Sultan: This is my royal vizier, Jafar. He's delighted, too.
Jafar: [Very dryly] Ecstatic.

Governor Ratcliffe

Governor Ratcliffe | Pocahontas

Governor Ratcliffe travels to the 'New World' with his fleet in his desperate search for gold and wealth. He hates the native Americans, and later orders an attack on Pocahontas' people. There are some hilarious parts in his dialogue too, especially when he is paired with his faithful assistant, Wiggins.

"I'd help you to dig, boys, but I have this crick in me spine."

Ratcliffe: "I've never been a popular man..."
Wiggins: "I like you!"

Scar

Scar | The Lion King

Scar is one of the best Disney villains of all time. He continually insults his minions, the hyenas, he doesn't bother to hide his lack of enthusiasm for Simba's birth, and most of his replies are sarcastic. Jeremy Irons was an excellent choice for this likeable and deliciously evil character. Here's a few of his best quotes:

"Forgive me for not leaping with joy. Bad back, you know."

"It's clear from your vacant expression (that) the lights aren't all on upstairs."

Simba: "You're so weird!" Scar: "You have no idea."

Zazu: "You'll lose more than that when the King gets through with you. He's as mad as a hippo with a hernia..."
Scar: "Oooh... I quiver with FEAR!"

Hades

Hades | Hercules

Hades is the God of the Underworld, who comes along with his minions, Pain and Panic. He's everything that makes a Disney baddie qualify for this list - sarcastic, hilarious, and deliciously evil. Here are some epic Hades quotes.

Zeus: "So, Hades, you finally made it. How are things in the underworld?"
Hades: "Well, they're just fine. You know, a little dark, a little gloomy. And, as always, hey, full of dead people. What are you gonna do?"

"Name's Hades, Lord of the dead. Hi, how ya doin'?"

Hades: "Hercules, stop! You can't do this to me, you can't..."
[Hercules punches Hades in the face]
Hades: "Fine, okay, well I deserved that."

Ursula

Ursula | The Little Mermaid

Ursula is a sea witch who was banished from the mer-people's palace. She uses her magic to entice "poor, unfortunate souls" by letting them think she's helping them, but she's actually tricking them so that she can add their shrivelled remains to her "little garden". She does the same to Ariel, who swaps her voice to become a human.

Ursula is a funny character who's insanely popular with many viewers. Here are a few of her greatest quotes.

"Don't underestimate the importance of body language! HA!"

"I use it on behalf of the miserable, the lonely and depressed... pathetic..."

Amazing article. I've always thought of Gaston as one of the more heroic Disney villains. Yeah he's aysoginist, and a tool, and a horrible person really. But when he sees a monster that he thinks is threatening the town and threatening (from his perspective) the woman he...well to be honest lusts for, his first instinct is to act. Horrible person, yes, but if this was another movie he could easily be the hero.
