"The Croods" Storyline Quote
"Eep's family -the Croods- consists of her dad -Grug-, her mom -Ugga-, her siblings -Thunk and Sandy-, and her gran. On their journey the family runs into a guy (named Guy ironically) who is more intellectually advanced than them. For example: he can build fires and invent new things which is something they cannot grasp initially until he teaches them some of what he knows."
"The Croods" Storyline
"The Croods" is a story about a family of cavemen. They are faced with their world seeming to be coming to an end. (It's likely the continental shifting going down.) Eep, a cave girl, is the main narrator. She and her family are forced to search for a new home after their's is destroyed by either an earthquake or the continents shifting. It's not exactly made clear what they're facing that's destroying their world. Eep's family -the Croods- consists of her dad -Grug-, her mom -Ugga-, her siblings -Thunk and Sandy-, and her gran. On their journey the family runs into a guy (named Guy ironically) who is more intellectually advanced than them. For example: he can build fires and invent new things which is something they cannot grasp initially until he teaches them some of what he knows. The family is all enamored of him except for Grug who views him with suspicion and distrusts that Guy doesn't rely on fear to survive, which is how the Croods had been living prior to meeting Guy. Guy ends up going along with them (not quite by his own choice as Eep develops a crush on him and the rest of the family want him around to build fires for them). The end is shocking and develops into an intense survival story that I'm not going to say if it ends happily so as not to ruin the ending for anyone who hasn't seen it quite yet.
The story of "The Croods" is really quite well done. It's humorous, fresh, and yet also touching in some moments especially towards the end.

"The Croods" Animation
The animation in "The Croods" is breathtaking, colorful, and keeps you interested to look at more of it. There's plenty of strange prehistoric made up animals roaming around that have amazing designs and a wide range of color. It was released in 3-D which I didn't see, but I'm sure it was done quite well (which is a bit compliment coming from me as I kind of dislike how big 3-D movies have become as it seems to be ruining too many scenes for me when viewing a 3-D movie without the 3-D effect. It just detracts too much from the scene and makes the movie seem cheesy to me.) It's comparable to "Avatar" in some ways with the strange jungle and weird creatures. If you like computer generated animation you will enjoy this movie for sure!

"The Croods" Characters
Each character in "The Croods" is clearly well planned out and different from the rest of the group.
Eep is spirited and wants freedom. Her hair is a big curly mass of red which seems to reflect her personality of being firey. Grug is overbearing, protective, and distrusts change. Ugga is concerned about her family as any modern mom is and cares for her hair. Thunk is dumb and can't think for himself. Sandy is tough and a bit like a little animal baby. Gran is old and proclaims loudly: 'Still alive!' at any opportunity that might have resulted in her death, much to the disappointment of Grug who wants his mother-in-law to go away because she likes mocking him. Guy, along with his little pet named Belt, is incredibly smart, inventive, and creative compared to the rest of "The Croods".

Similar Movies to "The Croods"
Some similar movies to "The Croods" are: "Ice Age", "The Flintstones",(1994), and "Dinosaur". If you like any of these movies you will likely enjoy "The Croods".
"Ice Age" is similar to it by the setting of prehistoric and it also has some cave people wandering around and cave drawings.
"The Flintstones" isn't especially like it as it's live action and is a fictious telling of cave people like they're identical to 1960's suburban America family life, but it does have the similarity of being about a family of cave people. "The Croods" is much better than "The Flintstones" or any of the old Flintstones' cartoons.
"Dinosaur" is only similar by being prehistoric and by having amazing visuals as well. "The Croods" is much more colorful than "Dinosaur" though.
Who will enjoy "The Croods"
This movie does have life threatening situations shown. There is multiple situations the family is nearly eaten by animals or killed by the natural disasters going on around them. This may prove to be disturbing for some young viewers. If your kid can handle Looney Tunes cartoons with Elmer Fudd trying to hunt Bugs Bunny then this should be no big deal for your kids to see though. Kids ages five and up will probably understand the jokes more and the situations. Older kids will likely enjoy this movie too. Adults too would probably enjoy watching this movie at least once if they like animation and humorous movies.
