Eddie Murphy was so successful as a comedian he was offered a job to be apart of one of the most successful late-night programs on T.V. SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE. The show was suffering hard times in the 80’s. Murphy revived it after the five years of low ratings. Along with T.V show, he moved to the big screen. His first film was in 1982 (48 hrs.). In 1983, he stared in the movie TRADING PLACES directed by John Landis. Each year, he was in a film. In 1988 he collaborated with John Landis again. He starred as a prince visiting America alongside Arsenio Hall in the movie COMING TO AMERICA. The success of the film was a huge success at the box office. The success was there but so was the controversy. He was sued because he allegedly took ideas from a screenplay he submitted to Paramount. After a lengthy battle, it was settling. During this time, he was nominated and won awards. He started the Beverly Hills Cop franchise from 1985-1988. Two years later, he teamed up with a few more comedians in the movie HARLEM NIGHTS. He played numerous roles since the 80’s but his role in his previous film MR. CHURCH showed a more serious side.
Murphy had memorable roles in films. You could tell he was passionate about them all. He has made those that watched him laughed and they cried. He also had the same effect on listeners. Murphy is a singer as well. He started singing background vocals for the group called THE BUS BOYS. During that same time, he was recognized by American songwriter-singer, multi-instrumentalist and producer Rick James. James seemed to have taken Eddie under his wing. He later produced a hit single sung by Eddie called PARTY ALL THE TIME. That song was a single to his debut album HOW COULD IT BE. There were big named producers on the album. In the 1990’s, he recorded another album titled LOVE’S ALRIGHT. On the album were many big names. Michael Jackson was one of the major artists on the album. In his movie COMING TO AMERICA he imitated Jackie Wilson’s song to be loved. He sung IM A BELIEVER, LIVIN LA VITA LOCA & THANK YOU in the films in the Shrek Franchise. He acted as the donkey in the animated flicks. In 2013, he released a song, RED LIGHT, with another major artist. Murphy came out with a total of three albums before he officially called it quits. Him being a big star on the movie screen was all the people wanted him to be.
During the early stages of his career, he often looked for someone to share his wealth with. Sadly, he looked in the wrong places. The fact that they were the wrong places does not eliminate the blessings that came from them. He had his first son named Eric in 1989. His mother’s name is Paulette McNeely. The next year he had another son named Christian from Tamera Hood. He was getting older and wanted something much more stable. In response, he started a relationship with an old friend that he met a few years back. In 1993, he married NICOLE MITCHELL. They were happily married. They started a great family. The image was there but they were having issues. Issues that went unnoticed for years until 2005. In that year, Mitchell filed for divorce. In 2007, it was final. Shortly after, the single Murphy bought property in Long Island, New York. He also started dating again. This time it was a former singer, Melanie Brown, in the Britain girl group SPICE GIRLS. Melanie gave birth to Murphy’s 8th child. He had a private symbolic union on an island with film producer TRACEY EDMONDS. That too fell apart. Murphy started to date model PAIGE BUTCHER in 2012. She gave birth to his 9th and 10th child. He has not been on the dating scene since that time.
Murphy came in the industry young. His first contract came to him when he was only 19. He was performing alongside major comedians. Along with him being an actor, singer and father he also was a producer and writer. He wrote much of his material. he produced his own show entitled the PJ's. The PJ's was a black sitcom displaying life in the projects. It was funny and sad at the same time. The funny part is what stirred controversy. Big names started to criticize it. In response, the show only lasted 3 seasons. There was not even 50 episodes. Despite the failures, what was impressive about his life before the fame was the fact that he found something to ease the pain. He was determined. So, determined, he made mistakes while pursuing it. The fact that his mother wanted him to get his education was phenomenal. He was not one of those actors that dropped out of school to pursue his dream. While getting his education, he perfected his craft. In response, he was ready when the moment came. Another thing that stood out was the fact that he was not going to allow the industry to use his pain for their gain. Most importantly, he took ownership of all his kids. He grew up without knowing much about his father and did not want any of his kids to not know theirs. He has retired from being a stand up comedian and started to be a stand up guy. Sadly, his older brother passed of Luekimia. He may not be around to see the father they never had but he lives through his brothers 10th child , MAX CHARLES MURPHY.
