The Four Seasons According To Me

In each month, of every season, there are celebratory holidays or traditions that we all see as a national or local way to express ourselves for something that is meaningful to all of us.

In this article, I will discuss my version of the four seasons in a non traditional way - all in a guys perspective. I will present each season and it will be centered around my complicated thought process. - Jeeps, Sports, Beer and the Wild Thing. Please keep in mind that I am left handed and live my life outside of the conventional methodologies so this is not a "left field" thought but a normal and logical conclusion.

Season One - April thru September is Jeep Season

I am not afraid to say that I enjoy going top-less (soft top down on my Jeep Wrangler Sport). That is correct - it is Jeep season and for five months we celebrate all Jeeps models from the 1941 Willy to current day Wrangler and especially the 75th anniversary of the Jeep. This is a special season because all the Jeep owners can travel in their 4x4 SUV along the East coast (Maine to Florida), through the Rocky Mountains (East to West), from Dallas, Texas to Toronto, Canada all with a common goal - wave to the other Jeep owners as you pass them.

As a Jeep Wrangler owner living in Pennsylvania, I can tell you that the Wrangler wave actually happens through out the year regardless of Jeep Season. I cannot explain the origin of the wave or why it happens. I can only conclude that all of us Jeep owners belong to a special union and we acknowledge that brotherhood or sisterhood every time we see another Wrangler owner.

Jeep season is the longest period of the year spanning five months. It was designed this way to prolong the wave in a season filled with clear sky cool days of 65 - 75 degrees in temperature (no humidity and no rain). The traditional Memorial Day and 4th of July celebrations remain while the people grill or smoke food at almost every meal (and even in their garages) like we do.

A special shout out to the newest member of the Jeep Union - this Jeep chick drives a Silver Jeep Cherokee and calls it Silver Fox.

Season Two - September & October are Sports Season

Season Two - September & October are Sports Season

Sure professional sports are played all year but in this shortened two month season we have some modifications to the traditional rules. For example, please note the following rule changes for professional sports in my sports season:

1. MLB (Major League Baseball is played from the beginning of April to the last day of August). This means that Labor Day is celebrated with a mandatory rule that all players must be home with their families for the Labor Day holiday. Post season play will continue the first Tuesday in September and must be completed before October 1st. No more of the fall classic - Baseball season is simply too long.

2. NFL - In Sports season, the National Football League begins play with Tuesday night Football on the first Tuesday in September and concludes no later than December 23rd (which means that this professional sport spans three seasons). Post season play will begin on January 2nd and all playoff games, including the Super Bowl, must end by February 1st.

3. NHL - The National Hockey League will begin play on the first Tuesday in September and will conclude on January 1st as the Winter Classic is the last game of the season. There is a mandatory break between December 23rd and December 31st so the Christmas holiday and New Year's Eve can be spent with family and friends. The month of January will have both the Stanley Cup play-offs and Super Bowl play-offs.

September and October can be cold or hot in our traditional world but in the new seasons there is a significant change. The weather for September and October begins to get cool while the leaves still fall from the trees, the outside temperature never hits above 69 degrees. I am okay to have rain in these two months with the following exceptions: It never rains on Labor Day, Halloween night or on Sunday's.

Season Three - November & December is Black & Tan Season

With weather temperatures maximizing at 69 degrees for September and October, they steadily drop to below freezing in the November and December months. The traditional Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays remain in tact and these are the heaviest two snow months. Due to the consistent snow fall on every Sunday in November and December, Monday's are considered an unofficial holiday since businesses and schools consistently close due to the heavy Sunday snow fall.

With ice and snow blanketing the state of Pennsylvania, the people have implemented the traditional Black and Tan beer (Bass Ale and Guinness Stout) as a national and federal season. I understand that the English and the Irish have not been known to be the best of friends but somehow when you mix the English Bass Ale with the Irish Guinness Stout, everything changes.

Every restaurant has both of these fine beers on draft during the Black and Tan season and the Sports season has extended it self to this season. Both the NFL and NHL are coming close to and end while families muscle through the piles of snow that accumulate endlessly.

Nieces and Nephews

A special shout out to all our nieces and nephews who have shared a black and tan with us after they turned 21.

Season Four - January thru March is Conception Season

While the overlap of the past two seasons (Sports and Black and Tan) extends into a cold January, we begin yet another season known as Conception season. As the Stanley Cup play-offs and Super Bowl close out the Sports season, the sales of the Black and Tan season slow down as well (perhaps a coincidence - I do not know). Even the snow stops cold in January but the normal temperatures remains below freezing (32 degrees).

So we have February and March to wrap up the last season and this is the time for families to unite for Sunday dinner and couples to have their daily "quiet time". We leave in place the traditional sentimental Valentine's Day and share family growth figures since the majority of the people, in Pennsylvania, have a February or March birthday (perhaps "quiet time" has something to do with this - I do not know).

As the weather temperature begins to climb in February and March, people are getting ready for their outdoor work and cleaning off their Jeeps for the next season.

This is a funny hub. I like it. I am thinking of my own seasons. I like the idea of portraying your lifestyle.
