Mekakucity Actors [ENDING]

Updated on September 7, 2016

Mekakucity Actors

I really like this anime because it made me feel the “dark feelings” that each character has buried deep inside of them. The pain of shouldering a huge burden, faking a smile every day, pretending you are okay even if you are not. Trying to show your true nature but at one point they will not let you show it, or they will let you show it but will call you all sorts of negative things. Aside from that the ending really made me think, if it was positive or negative. Also there are a lot of hidden messages that is the reason why you should watch the whole episode until the end. The after ending song stories might help.

So about the ending, when I was reading the some of the comments they said that it was a happy ending. Yes, 9 people were there, but with many hidden meanings to this anime I think there is more to it. This is my theory, it might be wrong but this is how I see the ending with the explanations of the different screenshots.

Photo 1: Ayano said that she will give every last one of the serpents back to Marry. This is also the part where Marry decided that she will not return the time and continue living the future.

Photos 2-4: After that the evil serpent was “sealed”, this was the next scene. At this one they look like they are back in their normal lives. However, after watching it 5 times over and over again, I thought, “Maybe Momo is NOT taking forever to get ready (dressing up and stuff), but she is getting ready emotionally, mentally for decision that needs to be accepted fully.”

Photos 5-7: Shintaro heard running steps from the behind him, but he did not see anyone. For the clothes, it should be Honoka who was running. This may signify the feeling of not wanting to leave/ accept the future.

Photos 8-10: The colors of the background are different. It is like separating those who are “alive” and those who have “moved on”. After seeing photo 9, in photo 10 (Shintaro & Ayano), the puddle did not even have Ene nor Shuuya’s silhouette. It’s like the two are very far away already.

Photos 11-13: See how far the other 9 looks from them, just like telling them “we have accepted what is to come”; I figured out that it might be the hardest for the Shintaro and Ayano to let go of these feelings/ memories for this “loop world” because of the knowledge they have stored in them and the burden of keeping it with them every time that world returns to August 15 loop. I think Ayano is asking Shintaro if he was ready to move on the future. The crossing of the road for me is the acceptance of the “future”/ acceptance of the “other side.”

Photos 14-16: We can see Shintaro accepting the future, just like how their foster parents accepted the future. The difference was Shintaro was walking alone. I feel that the “future” in store for them was a future that they would be separated, since their purpose as a vessel for the snakes is done (since the snakes are already returned to Marry, as stated in photo 1).

Theory 1: Their memories of the events & relationship are erased as they return to their daily routines.

Theory 2: Their “near-death” situations, may actually have led to their deaths/ they died after the incident.

Photos 17-22: At this part Marry was talking to herself that if she had looped the world again, all of them being together forever maybe possible, I am thinking that the rose is the symbol that Marry is the only one who uses/ checks their hideout now (since the rose is used by her mother, Shion). The last 2 photos showed that this is the future that they have chosen. That even if they are not together, Marry will surely remember everything. (Probably because of the power of Retaining Eyes has already returned to her.)
