One of the Best Actors Ever

As you can see from the pictures, he has been in many movies. Let's start from the beginning, with where he was born. Denzel Washington was born in Mount Vernon, New York in 1954 and has already been in close to 60 movies. He starred in the hit television show St. Elsewhere, from 1982-1988 before making it huge in Hollywood.

Washington won two Academy Awards, for Glory and, Training Day. He was also nominated for Academy honors for The Hurricane, Malcolm-X and Cry Freedom.

In my opinion, Washington is one of the best drama actors ever. When he plays in a film you tend to forget that it's not real life. His skills are amazing, and he can play in any roll. He has played a cop, gangster, coach, boxer, lawyer and every other roll in between.

Denzel Washington is also a director and producer in Hollywood. Washington got his first break before St. Elsewhere by playing the "grapes" in the Fruit of the Loom commercials and he never looked back. (It's funny to think that this is how he got his big break).

Washington went on to win two Academy Awards, a Tony Award, and two Golden Globe Awards, as well. He has a generous heart, and he is the National Spokesman, for The Boys and Girls Club of America. Denzel has donated money to his former college, Fordham University.

Just in case your wondering, his work in movies hasn't slowed a bit. Washington has three films in production for 2013. Also, Denzel returned to his roots in acting to play Marcus Brutas in the stage play Julius Caesar in 2005. He can make you smile, laugh or cry which to me is one of the trademarks of a great actor. He has been making films non stop for so long and he does not appear to be slowing down at all.

My Favorite Denzel Films

Denzel Washington has made many, great, dramatic, and action filled movies but, the ones on the list below stand out in my mind as his best for a variety of different reasons.

1. Man on Fire (2004) Washington plays a bodyguard to a young girl. The film takes place in Mexico and after a kidnapping of a little girl takes place. Washington's character becomes something really sinister. He is going to get vengeance on each and every person involved in the little girl's death. This movie has a lot of violent killing scenes and other scenes that young children shouldn't see.

2. Glory (1989) Washington plays a soldier in the Civil War. It also stars Mathew Broderick and Morgan Freeman. Denzel has some very dramatic scenes in this film especially, when he is being whipped and just stares down the General.

3. Malcolm X (1992) Washington plays Civil Rights Leader Malcolm X. Washington plays the roll perfectly from Malcom's days as "Red" to his life change in prison.

4. The Hurricane (1999) Washington plays real life boxer Ruben Carter. Carter was sent to prison for a murder he did not commit. With a little self belief, perseverance and help he overcame and was finally freed after 20 plus years.

5. John Q (2002) Washington plays a father who has to save his son. His son needs a heart transplant and John Q holds up an emergency room with a gun to make sure his son gets medical care.

6. Training Day (2001) Washington plays a dirty cop alongside a clean cop played by Ethan Hawke. Denzel is in trouble with the Russian Mafia and has to give them a million dollars. He will rob and kill to get the cash and he'll bring his partner along for the ride.

7. Remember the Titans (2000) Washington plays as a Head Football coach in a racist time in a racist city. An emotional movie about blacks and whites and segregation and then coming together.

8. American Gangster (2007) Washington plays real life gangster Frank Lucas. The movie is very violent and dramatic. Lucas cuts out the middle man as he crosses over into Asia to get heroin, which he then turns around and sales in New York.

9. Philadelphia (1993) Washington plays a Lawyer in this film alongside Tom Hanks. The film deals with a tough issue such as AIDS. Washington gives an unbelievable performance in the courtroom.

10. The Book of Eli (2010) Denzel Washington plays as the savior in this post apocalyptic drama movie. In this movie he is blind. One of Washington's most brutal movies. He fights everyone with a very large blade. He memorizes the bible because there are bad people taking over and they are trying to rid the world of religion.
