The Making of The Abbey Road Album Cover
Has the Beatles were working on their last album they were looking for some good ideas for this album cover. They always put much effort in their album cover has they did on the music within that cover of that album, only once did they ever release a bad album cover which was the butcher cover. One suggestion for the album cover was to call it Everest after a brand of cigarettes, smoked by the Beatle’s engineer and have a picture of the Beatles at the foot of some famous mountain, but in the end none of the Beatles could be bothered in doing that. One of them, some say Paul, said why don't we just have our picture taken as we walk across the crossing just outside here and call the album Abbey Road, all of them agreed to that and this set the wheels in motion to make that so.
John called on the phone a photographer friend of his, Iain MacMillan, and a photo shoot was set up, in August of 68 the Beatles got set to take the picture for their now titled album Abbey Road . At 11:30 that day while a policeman held up traffic MacMillan stood in the middle of Abbey Road and took six photos of the group walking across, he had them walk both ways to make sure one way was not better than the other. Some time later Paul looked over all the negatives and picked out the fifth photo has the shot they would use for their album cover. When the album came out, it became the world's no. 1 selling album and also it inspired countless of other hopeful bands to imitate the cover of Abbey Road album, even Paul McCartney used the crossing on his Paul is Live album with his dog Martha, but i believe it was done in Photoshop because his dog Martha died some years ago. Even EMI's recording studios after the album was released changed their name to Abbey Road studios. To date the Abbey Road album is iTunes biggest selling album of all time.
And still today people flock to this site has if it has some healing power or it may be just to see the magical place where this great album was recorded and to see the very place where John, Paul, George and Ringo made that now famous album cover photo. Sometime ago I found the Abbey Road webcam website and sometimes I will watch it for a while if it is early enough because there is a five hour different in time from here to there. And I still see many people taking pictures and even taking photos on that crossing and risking life and limbs just to get the picture taken. But you have to remember to the Beatles were not just another rock group, they were the rock group who inspired all others to form rock groups, and also helped many artist with their music has well .Two rock stars who are big fan of the Beatles that I can name off the top of my head are Gene Simmons from Kiss who on his TV show did visit the Abbey Road Studios and was totally thrilled at being there and also Ozzy Osbourne is a hard core Beatles fan has well, and I’m sure there are many more that I could name that in one way or another were inspired by the Beatles music.
