Beautiful Women Over 40 - Part 5
More of the most beautiful women over 40 with Julianne Moore, Michelle Pfeiffer, Diane Lane, Ashley Judd, Jennifer Beals and Gong Li
I had no idea this series of articles would be so well received.
But here we are all the way up to number five.
This time we have TV and movie actresses that have appeared on Star Trek: The Next Generation, Fantasy Island, CHips and have still been nominated (and in some cases won) Academy Awards, Golden Globes and Screen Actors Guild Awards.
And yes, all of these women are over forty.
Michelle Pfeiffer was born on April 29th, 1958 in Santa Ana, California.
She made her acting debut in 1978 on an episode of Fantasy Island entitled "The Island of Lost Women/The Flight of Great Yellow Bird" as Athena.
Michelle followed that up with more TV appearances on Delta House, The Solitary Man, CHips, Enos (wow) and B.A.D. Cats.
She made her big screen debut in 1980 comedy The Hollywood Knights.
From such humble beginnings, Michelle went on to appear in over fifty TV shows and movies, and so far has been nominated for three Academy Awards, won a Golden Globe, a BAFTA Award, and has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
She's been on People's "50 Most Beautiful People in the World" list a record six times, and was on the cover of the very first issue.
Julianne Moore was born on December 3,1960 in Fayetteville, North Carolina (my old home state).
She made her acting debut on the old CBS soap, The Edge of Night.
Julianne went from there to another soap, As the World Turns, where she played the dual roles of Frannie Hughes and Sabrina Hughes from 1985 to 1988.
That role won her a Daytime Emmy Award.
In 1987 she appeared in the TV mini-series I'll Take Manhattan (based on the Judith Krantz novel of the same name) and has appeared in over sixty TV shows and movies.
Although she got knocked by critics in Hannibal (2001) for portraying Clarice Starling, I liked her in Evolution (2001) as the less than graceful Allison Reed.
Don't think she's a lightweight though, Julianne racked up a whole slew of award nominations for her roles in Far from Heaven, The Hours, Magnolia, Boogie Nights and The End of the Affair.
Diane Lane was born on January 22nd, 1965 in New York City, New York.
She got an early start in acting, appearing in a production of Medea at the La MaMa Experimental Theater Club in New York at the age of six.
At the age of twelve, she appeared in Joseph Papp's production of The Cherry Orchard with Meryl Streep.
She made her film acting debut at the age of thirteen in the 1979 romantic comedy film, A Little Romance.
Diane has gone on to appear in over fifty films, and has been nominated for Academy Awards, Golden Globes and Screen Actors Guild Awards.
All this and I remember her best as Ellen Aim in Streets of Fire....
Ashley Judd was born on April 19th, 1968 in Granada Hills, California, U.S.
Although her mother is Naomi Judd and with Ashley's half-sister Wynonna, they formed the singing duo known as The Judds, Ashley didn’t go into music, but into acting.
She made her acting debut in 1991 on the TV series Star Trek: The Next Generation as Ensign Robin Lefler in the episodes "Darmok" (remember "Shaka, when the walls fell."?) and "The Game".
Ashley went on from there to appear in over thirty films and TV shows including Frida, Where the Heart Is, Double Jeopardy and Kiss the Girls.
The still gorgeous Jennifer Beals was born on December 19, 1963 in Chicago, Illinois.
Her exotic looks come from her African-American father and her Irish American mother.
Of course my generation knows her best as Alexandra "Alex" Owens in the 1983 film Flashdance, but she's gained quite a bit of fame as Bette Porter on the Showtime series The L Word.
I also know her as Cal Lightman's ex-wife, Zoe Landau on the Fox TV series Lie to Me (which if you are not watching you should be).
Jennifer has had a very prolific career, appearing in over sixty TV shows and films since her debut in the 1980 film My Bodyguard.
And you know, in some shots, I think she looks better now than she did in Flashdance.
Gong Li was born on December 31, 1965 in Shenyang, China.
She made her acting debut in the 1987 Chinese film, Red Sorghum and went on to appear in over thirty films.
This five foot seven beauty has been nominated for, and won many acting awards including the New York Film Critics Circle Award for Best Supporting Actress in 1993.
That award has been won by actresses like Penélope Cruz, Helen Mirren, Ellen Burstyn and Meryl Streep just to name a few.
Here in the US, you may have seen her in Hannibal Rising (2007) as Lady Murasaki, Miami Vice (2006) as Isabella or Memoirs of a Geisha (2005) as Hatsumomo.
Did you know that Sofía Vergara was discovered by a photographer while walking on a beach in Colombia?
Yes she was.
She did her first commercial at the age of 17, (a Pepsi commercial) and her career quickly took off from there.
Now she is an actress, a comedian, a producer, a television host, a model and a businesswoman worth over 28 million dollars.
And she's married to Joe Manganiello.
Sofia was born on July 10, 1972 in Barranquilla, Colombia.
Jennifer Connelly was born on December 12th, 1970 in Cairo, New York.
She has been in a ton of films (close to fifty) and although she got acclaim for films like "A Beautiful Mind" (and she should have, she won an Academy Award, and a Golden Globe Award for it), I remember her best for her roles in what most people would consider "Cult Films".
Labyrinth (1986), The Rocketeer (1991) and Dark City (1998).
I don't care if she did lip synch "Sway"...it was awesome.
Although Jennifer did actually sing it in the Director's Cut.
Dark City - Sway (Director's Cut)
Vanessa Marcil was born Sally Vanessa Ortiz on October 15, 1968 in Indio, California.
She appeared on the Soap Opera General Hospital as Brenda Barrett, as Gina Kincaid on Beverly Hills, 90210, and (my favorite) Sam Marquez on Las Vegas.
I really liked that show.
Anyway, she has made a few movies, most notably "The Rock" (1996), with Nicolas Cage and Sean Connery.
