Music Makes the World go Around

Music holds the world together. That is not some Epiphany that popped into my brain while smoking a joint and listening to Bob Marley. Music in itself defines periods in life. During the Civil War the bugler was very important. He was the spirit that rallied the troops in battle. After the battle they would set around campfires and rejoice in song to relax after fighting. Many of us can hear the beginning of a melody and immediately our mind races back to the first moment we heard that song. Who among us don't have a song that reminds us of our first love, our first date or other memorial happening in our life. Elton Johns Your Song was the first record I purchased for me to my wife. Even though she had already bought the album, that 45 was a special gift for her. We listen to music in our cars going to work or school we relax listening to it at home. I was taught as a salesman to listen to your favorite music while driving to work. I was told it would lift me up and make me forget about the everyday thing thus clearing my mind and making me a better sales person. It worked for me. When you attend church what is the first thing that happens? Music is played and the choir may sing or the congregation may begin to sing in unison. What has just happened ? One person becomes one of many enjoying the surroundings and becoming a part of something bigger than themselves because of the music. Every time man improves his life with some sort of invention, the invention has something to do with music. We have Laptops, I Phones, I Pods Tablets and who knows what else and they all play music. I know the first major thing I bought as a teen was a stereo. I listen to all kinds of music with the one exception being Rap. To me it has no backbone yet to many others it speaks to them. I am sitting here right now listening to Amy Winehouse. There is a lot of good new music out that I listen to. To listen to one genre is missing out of some very good music. Go to U Tube and listen to some of the new stuff. You will not only surprise yourself you may help start new artists by buying the music. Just don't forget the oldies like Joni Mitchell her voice has gotten golden over the years.

Music is very powerful and important. One song can bring back a thousand memories. Like you, I like a variety of music from gospel to bluegrass. I cannot get used to rap though. It makes my head spin. Thanks for the Hub. I enjoyed it.

Thank you all. My grandson is almost deaf even with hearing aides. I was just thinking how sound is so important and we take it for granted.
