As one would expect, these melodious pieces of music are all about love and human relationships, without a doubt the sweetest and most adorable thing known to mankind. These songs take you out of this world .... into another perfectly humane and yet heavenly abode ..... an experience that just shows what we could have made our world to be.... or maybe we still can....

..... at least we may try!

A list of ten sweetest songs of Bollywood....

movie: HUM DIL DE CHUKE SANAM (1999)

A beautiful musical melody
A beautiful musical melody

Aankhon ki gustakhiyan ......

If you wish to experience the sweet love of tender youth from a distance, this is the song that you need to watch. It is not just the music and the words, but the way whole song is choreographed that leaves that yearning for that feeling called love. The music is equally tender and the words almost dissolve in your ear like candy. One of the sweetest on-screen numbers of Bollywood, thanks to Aishwarya Rai and Salman Khan, the lead actors. The number was written by Mehboob and its melodious music composed by Ismail Darbar. Singers are Kavita Krishnamurthy and Kumar Sanu.

movie: ANAMIKA (1972)

One of the sweetest songs of Bollywood

Bahon mein chale aao ....

The sweet musical melody owes the credit for its greatness to many legends. The voice of Lata Mangeshkar and the music of R D Burman complement each other to create the magic of this song, making it an all time great number. However, in no less measure is the contribution of the two legends on screen, Sanjeev Kumar and Jaya Bhaduri (aka Bachchan), who recreate the same magic on screen with their acting skills. The music bears the trademark of R D Burman, who was a master is creating such soft magic. Lyrics are by Majrooh Sultanpuri.

movie: AWAARA (1951)

The sweetness of human relationship

Dum bhar jo idhar muh phere....

Awaara was a milestone movie of Bollywood in many ways. It broke may frontiers of creativity and free expression in India. However, its greatness lies in the way it made the story of a vagabond into a piece of sheer art. This number is an evidence of the genius of Raj Kapoor, considered the biggest showman of Bollywood. The voices of Lata Mangeshkar and Mukesh are interwoven into some extraordinary piece of music composed by Shankar Jaikishan, with lyrics written by Shailendra. This team gave Bollywood a lot of gems. This is perhaps the swetest of them all!

movie: ROJA (1992)

Life is so sweet when you are free
Life is so sweet when you are free

Dil hai chhota sa .....

The song marked the arrival of the genius called A R Rahman on the stage of Bollywood. The most characteristic feature of this song is its freshness, due largely to the creativity of an emerging star of music. This freshness also owes itself to the voice of Minmini, who is hardly known among Bollywood fans, in spite of being credited with such a marvel - one of the sweetest songs of Bollywood. The song depicts the energy and aspirations of youth with all its innocence, one of the sweetest things one can witness anywhere in the world. The lyrics of this song were written by P K Mishra.

movie: 1942 A LOVE STORY (1994)

A number that touches your soul
A number that touches your soul

Kuchh na kaho Kuchh bhi na kaho....

One of the most sensual songs of Bollywood, it is special because of its sweet flowing character. Its music and on-screen choreography complement each other in a way that lends to its extraordinary effects. The song is a classic number composed by the great R D Burman, one of his last ones, that have left us with his ever lasting memory and creativity. The humming nature of its music wherein the words almost melt into music, is like a cocktail that leaves you fully drunk. The voice of Kumar Sanu and the lyrics written by Javed Akhtar complete its greatness.

movie: ANURAAG (1972)

The swetness of youth
The swetness of youth

Sun ri pawan, pawan purvaiyya ....

"A thing of a beauty is a joy forever" ..... and a sweet melody can take it to a new plane, mesmerizing all on its way. This is what you feel while looking at a blind young girl singing about her handicaps and unfulfilled aspirations. This sweet number is voiced by Lata Mageshkar, who is at her sweetest best. The music of this number was composed by S D Burman - actually one of his most modern compositions. The lyrics are written by Anand Bakhshi. It is one of the most beautiful depictions of innoccence and beauty in Bollywood.

movie: PYAASA (1957)

A great number from a great team
A great number from a great team

Jaane kya tune kahi ....

This song has greatness written all over it. It is supposed to be a song of seduction, used by a small time hooker to lure her potential clients, and that is the only thing that you do not think it to be, when you hear or watch this number. It is classic Hindustani music at its innovative best. The voice of Geeta Dutt is so pure that you feel like closing your eyes and watching it through your heart. It may not be wrong to say that only Geeta Dutt could have brought such magic to this number. The music of S D Burman is as great as his music always was, and the words written by Sahir Ludhianwi is poetry at its best. A great song dripped with the sweetness of purity.

movie: KAREEB (1998)

A real Bollywood Candy
A real Bollywood Candy

Chori chori jab nazrein mili ........

This must rank as the one of the best compositions of Anu Malik, for its sheer refreshing quality, innovative use of rhythms and a musical effect that almost overshadows the two actors that have done an equally great job on screen. The voice of Kumar Sanu, who has always been undermined by the all encompassing Kishore Kumar effect seems to have finally found his identity and greatness and is equally complemented by rather unknown Sanjeevani, whose sweet voice is instrumental in this number. The lyrics of this number were written by Rahat Indori.

movie: TERE GHAR KE SAAMNE (1963)

A sweet sweet song
A sweet sweet song

Dil ka bhanwar kare pukar ....

Again a number from the stable of the great S D Burman, one of his earlier pieces of great music. This song does justice to all the great artists who created this all time favourite of music lovers. The soft flow of music - almost without any beats and the sensual voice of great Mohammad Rafi that undulates with the spiralling stairs of Qutub Minar, where this number is shot, merge into one homogenous orchestra that you can keep hearing for the rest of your life and still not have enough of it ! The lyrics were written by Hasrat Jaipuri. One cannot but complement the charming chemistry of Dev Anand and Nutan that creates its own magic on screen.

movie: SADMA (1983)

The melody of innocence
The melody of innocence

Ae zindagi gale laga le .....

A beautiful grown up girl loses her memory and regresses into a five year old, behaving like a mentally retarded child. A young man takes care of her and there is a bond between them - a bond of love, but not one that two adults of opposite sex share. This is a song expressing the sweetness of human relationships at its unadulterated best. Reminds us that there is nothing more wonderful than a human relationship, when and if that bond really blossoms. The great music is composed by Ilairaja and the voice is of Suresh Wadkar, one of the most under-rated singers of Bollywood. The on-screen presence of Kamal Hassan and Sridevi makes it a real Bollywood Candy.
