The Top 5 Sci-Fi Movies You Can't Miss Out On

Updated on April 19, 2017

Every Sci-fi fan has their own idea on what is the ultimate sci-fi movies, there's not one movie that everyone can agree on as there has been so many movies which have been that defined sci-fi so this one was hard for me.

It took me a long time to narrow my list down to the top 5 so lets take a look at the list i've put together for you!

5. Avatar (2009)

A paraplegic marine inhabits a hybrid alien body for research on a distant planet full of the aliens they have created hybrids of, he has to embark on an unique mission which ends up leading him to choose between his fellow humans and follow the orders he was given or protecting this new found world he now considers home and aliens he now considers friends.

Avatar is one of the most breathtaking movies i have seen to date, about courage and defiance. The graphic's throughout this whole movie is jaw-dropping to see, and the plot of the movie is sensational as it leaves the audience feeling wondrous throughout the film. The graphics of this movie why i couldn't leave Avatar off my list!

This movie has received countless awards such as 9 Oscars and 4 Golden Globes including best motion picture of the year in 2009. This was no surprise when it came out as it was directed by one of the best sci-fi directors in the business today James Cameron. No matter how many years go by Avatar will always be one of the most spectacular cinematically created movies of all time.

4. Aliens (1986)

Aliens is set 57 years after the first when she returns to earth after her escape vessel was found with Ellen Ripley in a cryogenic stasis, after telling her story about the aliens, earth sends the colony to investigate and after loosing contact with them they send Ellen Ripley to aid space marines to find out what has happened, sending them on an mission where Ripley comes face to face with her worst nightmare.

Aliens is the second movie in the James Cameron 'Alien' series. After Cameron released the first movie, Sci-fi fans had put down Aliens to be flop as everyone know the second movie is never as good as the first when the first! However it stunned all fans and became one of the greatest sci-fi movies of all time. You have to watch both yourself and let me know which one tops!

This movie is such a classic sci-fi movie which will keep you on the edge of your seat and will amaze you throughout, it might even give you a fright when you get a glimpse at the alien which happens to be the ultimate alien of all time, another great movie from James Cameron.

3. The Terminator (1984)

A machine that looks human is sent back in time on a mission to kill Sarah Connor and her unborn child in order to prevent her son growing up and helping the humans fight a war against the machines which could wipe them out, a soldier from the war has also been sent back in time to stop this machine.

The Terminator was one of the biggest Sci-fi series released having had sequels which have matched up to original, it is one of those movies which has defined sci-fi and will always be a movie to remember. There has been sequels following this movie however the original will always be my personal favourite as it is a classic but give them all a watch and let me know which one is your favourite.

This movie has everything in it from action, adventure and even comedy! Its got something for everyone and you will never be bored watching it as it never stops with the action packed scenes. The Terminator is where we discovered Arnold Schwarzenegger who has come to be a household name we all know and love for his most famous line "I'll be back".

2. E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982)

After a kind alien is stranded on earth, the alien is found and befriended by a young boy who dedicated his days to learning about it and teaching it new things while becoming extremely close to the being, the boy and his siblings decide to keep his existence a secret however the alien becomes sick resulting in the governments involvement for experimenting threatening to break up their bond.

Now this movie is one for the whole family, its a heartwarming movie and will bring the whole family to tears. E.T. has a stunning plot that will have your eyes locked onto the TV. If you haven't seen this movie yet then you have to watch it tonight! you wont regret it!

This movie will go on for decades being one of the greatest movies in general of all time, it doesn't matter if your a sci-fi fan or not you will putting this movie done as one of your favourites as well.

1. Independence Day (1996)

A sci-fi Blockbuster in which aliens invade earth and it is up to a small group of survivors to band together with the government to save the human race.

This movie is my ultimate favourite sci-fi movies as it is a powerful and inspiring movie that will leave the audience feeling uplifted. The main character played by Will Smith is what i think makes the movie, if it was played by anyone else it wouldn't of had the same impact as it did, which is why i didn't enjoy the second film. Will Smith has a way of capturing the audience with every role he plays, its an amazing film which i rate 5 stars as it is nothing less then in my opinion the greatest sci-fi movie. Its heartwarming and inspiring to watch so you will just have to watch it yourself to believe me if you already don't.

Which one of these is your favourite movie?
