The Winners Of MasterChef U.S.

Updated on January 02, 2017

With Season 5 of MasterChef just ending and Season 2 of MasterChef Junior starting in November, I thought it'd be a good time to recap the past winners of MasterChef U.S.

The successful cooking show, which first starting airing in the U.S. in 2010, has gone on for five seasons (with one season of MasterChef Junior), and has garnered six MasterChef winners, so far. Here is a guide to the six MasterChef winners, chosen by judges Gordon Ramsay, Joe Bastianich and Graham Elliot.

Whitney Miller was the first ever winner of MasterChef U.S. in 2010. Though Miller was one of the youngest contestants (both she and fellow contestant, Slim, were only 22 years old at the age of filming), she proved to the judges that she was up to the challenge of winning, with her home-style, southern cuisine. Miller was dubbed the "Pastry Princess" due to her talents with desserts on the show.

Since winning season one, Miller has gone on to write a cookbook, and is a food writer for various magazines (including Taste of Home and Southern Living). In 2013, Miller was featured as the opening chef at Chefdance (a cooking event within Sundance film festival).

You can catch Whitney on her website, Twitter page, and Facebook fan page.

Season two, which aired in 2011, had another female winner- Jennifer Behm. Behm, whom previously worked as a real estate agent, and was the winner of Miss Delaware USA in 2000, started off as a bit of a dark horse for the season (Gordon Ramsay notoriously spit out Behm's pork dish in episode 13), but she ended up snagging the title in the end with her Stuffed Quail entrée.

After her win, Behm went on to open her own catering business, Pink Martini, which is based in Wilmington, Delaware. Behm is also the spokesperson for Sous Vide, a cooking appliance company. Though a cookbook oddly wasn't offered to the contestants of season two, Behm is currently compiling her recipes for a cookbook which she hopes to publish by December 2014.

Behm and her husband (whom she married post-Masterchef) are expecting their first child together in 2015.

Who can forget the incredible story of MasterChef Season Three winner, Christine Hà? Hà, who competed in 2012, was the first (and so far, only) blind contestant on the show. Hà took a break from studying at the University of Houston to compete on the show (she later went on to receive her MFA in creative fiction/non-fiction writing), and slowly made her way to the winner's circle by cooking her signature Vietnamese cuisine.

Since winning Masterchef, Hà has released her cookbook, Recipes from My Home Kitchen: Asian and American Comfort Food. Hà is also the host of the TV cooking show, Four Senses, which airs on Canadian TV. She's done various TV appearances since her win, and also serves as Fiction Editor for Gulf Coast Journal.

Luca Manfè finally breaks the streak of female winners, as the champion of Season 4. Manfè, who moved from Italy at the age of 20, originally auditioned for the 3rd season, but was turned away by the judges. He returned with a vengeance in season 4, and impressed the judges with his Italian-style cooking.

Since taking the MasterChef trophy home, Manfè has been busy with his catering company, Dinner With Luca, and has released his cookbook, My Italian Kitchen: Favorite Family Recipes.

The latest winner of MasterChef is Courtney Lapresi. Lapresi, who was formerly an "aerial dancer", won Season 5 after continuously impressing the judges, and serving a Sumac Duck Breast for her final entree in the finale.

Since her win was fairly recent, it doesn't seen like Lapresi has been up to a whole lot yet. Her book, Everyday Fancy: 65 Easy, Elegant Recipes for Meals, Snacks, Sweets, and Drinks, is available for pre-order on Amazon.com

You can follow Courtney on Twitter, and keep an eye on her webpage, which is currently in-progress.

Alexander Weiss was crowned in the first season of MasterChef Junior, so he's technically the youngest MasterChef winner. Weiss, who was only 13 at the time of competing, impressed the judges with his knowledge of food and his cooking abilities, and snatched the title from 11 other junior chefs.

Since Weiss' win, he's gone back to junior high, but has still managed to make cooking a priority. He's compiling recipes for a future cookbook, shares cookie tutorials on YouTube, and has done numerous TV and guest cooking appearances.

Christine was definitely an inspiration. Unbelievable to watch a cook who is able to command a kitchen without the aid of sight
