There Are Monsters (stop the abuse of women) !

Updated on December 29, 2012

Throughout the so called "modern" world, women are abused daily. In the United states it is estimated that every 15 seconds a woman is a victim of abuse (usually perpetrated by a significant other). One in three women worldwide will have been the victim of some sort of abuse in her lifetime. I recently met a young lady nearly shattered by such abuse, and she inspired this... but we must go into action, and not just words.

Turnaround

You had the grace and expectation of romantic elation

that only some thing like love could bring

to his heart , and to yours (you thought)

his grateful heart did cling...

Then he hit you

and it must have torn

into you

and you thought it stole a certain part of you

and in truth

it must have been horrible

to see reality up close-

that on this side of heaven

There Be Monsters (a.k.a cowards)

and more painful than the physical

the mental

and the frustration of knowing

a part of trust

has been taken

and trust

so rarely had

now in grave clothes clad

walked in the echoing halls

of memory

i'm going to write a volume of poetry

for you... to prove that love is true

and days of youthful innocence

though they've since been devoured

love can conquer anything, and the monster must have no power!

Yes Deborah it is a subject close to home for me... because I witnessed something that no child should ever see, and it has to be said ... Respect our women! This poem was for a very young lady who was disillusioned by some creep so early on... yet I have tried to encourage her moving forward, and healing.

Thank you so much for writing this

'I am going to write a volume of poetry for you,

to prove that love is true'

I can sense how you're trying so hard to restore her faith in love, after her trust has been shattered so brutally by a coward.

A much needed and wonderful hub. It holds so much relevance . Voted up and all across.

Wow... thank you Shubangi... that is just what I was trying to convey... it nearly brings me to tears when I think about how a young person't trust can be shattered so.

Always good to hear from you

Is a real tragedy, that many women will only know monsters instead of Prince Charming. Is even more tragic that many will die thinking, that love does not exist at all. Wonderful tribute.

Any abuse of women removes the trust element immediately, whether verbal or physical. Thought provoking, Laurinzo. Sharing!

Thank you so much for your insightful comment midget 38... I totally agree

and I think we need to educate young boys earlier about respect of the opposite sex, and hold these advertisers that use women as billboards more accountable... it is 2013 after all

A very moving poem and all too relevant. It is true what you said above---that young boys need to be educated about respecting women. The violence against women depicted in video games, for example, is one place where parents can start (by banning them and speaking out against them.) All parents who consider themselves responsible people really need to just sit their children down and begin talking to them.

Thank you for the comment savvy, and I am glad that you are writing the things you write about relationships... I am learning!!!
