What Is Roku?

A Roku is a unit that streams movies from Netflix, Amazon and more directly to your television set. It's a small box that sits on top of your TV or wherever you place it (as long as the sensor is visible so the remote where activate the box). I have the original Roku and since they have come out with Roku 3. I don't have any experience with the Roku 3, but I will certainly guide you to an area that does. My review is going to be on the Roku and it really shouldn't make a difference whether it's on the old version or not, Roku is Roku and it's the next best thing, especially if you are a movie buff or love your television set.

The Roku also lets you stream sporting events, News, music from Pandora, Facebook and a lot more. It's really the ultimate package.

Purchase A Roku

Netflix on Roku

I have been a Netflix member for years now. I used to watch Netflix on my computer or sometimes even my phone if I am away from home. Since I purchased the Roku, it eliminates the need for my computer or phone to watch a movie on that is on Netflix. Now, I just take the Roku remote and turn it on. I can pick from Netflix, Amazon, Crackle and over 30 other channels to watch, listen or browse through.

My review will be on Netflix and if you are not a member, you are really missing out. I pay $7.99 a month for unlimited movies that are all free and I have over 10,000 movies to choose from. When I turn on the TV and get my Roku remote, I click on Netflix and a ton of movies with New releases will show up, my recently watched channels and even recommendations. I highly recommend if you are a movie or even TV watcher, that you invest in Netflix with or without the Roku. You will just have to watch it from your computer or phone. By the way, if you do watch Neflix or any movie from your phone, it does eat almost 1.5 gigs of usage on the phone, so I don't watch any movie on my phone any longer. Thought I would share that information with you.

Get Amazon Prime Membership For Unlimited Amazon Prime Movies

Joining Amazon Prime is a must if you have a Roku. Sometimes Netflix doesn't have a movie I would like to watch but Amazon does. If you join Amazon Prime, you can watch over 40,000 movies and if they are in the Primer membership category, they are totally free and there are 1,000's of movies that are free. If you find a movie you want to watch and it's not in the Prime membership, there may be a charge of $2.99 on up to rent the movie. The movie rentals range from 24 hours to 48 (sometimes more). Totally worth it. You can click on the link below to be a Prime member. They have a free trial going on right now.

Do I Need Wireless Internet For A Roku?

The next thing I get asked by my friends is if they will need to have a wireless connection to either get Netflix or Roku. The answer is obvious, but yes. I suggest getting an internet connection with DSL or cable modem at the minimum. I don't think anything less will be strong enough to stream a movie.

Get a decent router that has the potential of giving you the best performance. There's nothing worse than watching a great movie or whatever you are listening / watching and the screen says "one moment please" while it looks for a connection.
