Timeless Family Television Shows of The 80's And 90's

Updated on November 7, 2013

The Cosby Show

The Cosbys

This show has been, and still is known as one of the best television shows to reach people of all backgrounds and race. Many people today still enjoy the life lessons, including the discipline. That has been shown and instilled in families and generations to come. We love "The Cosbys"

This "Collected Bunch" is known to TV lovers as the regular personalities of real school students. For years this television series showed us many situations that goes on in regular public schools across America. The Jock, The Prep, The Popular Cheerleader. The Nerd, The Empowering Braniac. And The Material Girl along with The Principle. "Save By The Bell"

90210, is the show all screaming teen girls used to watch. Especially over the guys. They were known as the popular young adults in California's wealthy society. Well...I don't have to say too much. If you knew these guys and gals you were apart of what I call The 90210 Era.

A Different World

A Different World is the show that showed you college life of African Americans. This Show broke huge barriers, to show that African Americans are in fact educated. Striving to have a place in society. The group of the energetic young men and woman together made what I call "A Different World".

The father is a pastor in a nice town. This shows shows the ups and downs of situations that take place in a regular family. Presenting First families go through life situations like everyone else. 7th Heaven.

Family Matters is a show about a Cop his nerdy neighbor and his family that goes through little situations that others experience in life.

"Of course you know these girls" Tia and Tamera are the twins who took over television with a spunk. With their energetic mom and humbled father. These girls had a taste of protection and resisting. "Sister Sister"

This "Classic" television show, showed the lives of young rookie police officers who were ready to serve. Hanson, Hoffs, Pinhall, and Harry were the greatest of collaboration of characters to reach children in high schools around their society. Issues of society were shown to teach families the down side of rejecting the law. "21 JumpStreet"

The A TEAM The triple threat to the criminals. Need I Say Anymore!

Ok...Now any young male or female in the 90's knows this show. Cory and Shawn with their epic situations. They were the real deal of teenagers coming up. This show also put a spotlight on friends who stick together facing diversity no matter the circumstance. "Boy Meets World"

Full House

This epic roller coaster of a family, was one of the best described situation that is known to man. Three men raising three girls. " Talk about full".

This show is the adventure of a women thrown out of a hair salon. Thrown into a family of a wealthy writer as the caretaker. Fran is the woman who brings the situations to life in the house of her true love..."Mr. Sheffield". "The Nanny"

Hillary, Carlton, Ashley, Willllllll!

We All Know This TV Classic. A Philadelphia Born And Raised Individual goes to his aunt and uncle's house in Bell Air to stay out of trouble.

More Shows

In the 80's And 90's there were many other shows flourishing from the television screens daily. Family values during these eras were expressed more than anything else in the world. This was just a look back at shows that change the course of perception, stereo types, and how to cope with different diversities in our lives. The shows have inspired many writers, actors, and actresses along with photography and filming. The Reason of choosing these shows out of the others, because of the longevity. People were anxious to see what was going to be the next thing to happen in the lives of those characters. When these characters came to life it was the beginning of a "Non-Stop" emotional "Joy" ride.

Those were the days. The only sitcom I watch now is "The Big Bang Theory" because most shows can't compete with these.

Wish that they hadn't done the 21 Jumpstreet movie as a comedy. I didn't even watch the majority of the Veronica Mars series, but loved the fact that they took the time to bring as many of the stars back in their original roles.

You forgot Roseanne which was one of the funniest comedies with a mix of a family struggling, wisecracks, and real teenage problems.

Friends?? The title may have been friends but they were a family too. Also easily one of the funniest shows of all time. My favorite being Joey and Phoebe.

Married with Children was also not on this list. This was the beginning of dirty talk on tv. It was on for 10 seasons so couldn't be that bad. Christina Applegate got her big break.

Step By Step? You can't have Full House and Family Matters without this one.

Also orphan shows Webster and Punky Brewster was not listed...They were soo 80s and well loved.

How about Charles in Charge? Who's The Boss? Doogie Howser?

I loved and watched most of these shows, with the exception of A-team and 21 jumpstreet because I was a little too young to appreciate them at the time. But Cosby is still my favorite, even more so now as an adult. I agree with another comment that it is/was one of the few shows that was able to find humor in everyday family situations without being slaptick, cliché or caricature acting. Again, I love like Fresh Prince, Saved by the Bell, Sister Sister, Family Matters etc as well, but Cosby Show remains timeless IMO.

My vote goes to The Cosby Show. It featured a ton of great talent, guest stars, and real family situations that didn't feel forced or cliched. Great hub, voted up!
