Nigeria, the most populous black Nation in the world sure possesses gamut of young and upcoming talented musicians. In fact, the new generations of Nigeria musicians are seriously now making waves all over the world as they are now touring every country of the world especially in London, New York, Accra, Johannesburg and other regions of Africa. The tremendous transformation and improvement in the musical landscape in Nigeria can be dated back to have started about two decades ago with the emergence of the trio; Eddy remedy, Eedris Abdulkareem and Tony Tertula as a group which was followed by the birth of another famous group called Plantation Boyz (which consists of Face, TuFace and BlackFace). But interestingly, in recent times the energy which the current crop of Nigeria musicians have brought to the music scene has been unprecedented. TuFace or 2Face (Born as Innocent Ujah Idibia) who hails from Benue State was born on 18 September, 1975 in Jos, Plateau State located in Northcentral Nigeria. He is an Afropop musician well known for his unique style of music that portrays message about ill-social life in a typical Nigeria and African society.
TuFace who is considered to be the best and most decorated Nigerian afropop musician, first gained popularity through the famous band group called Plantashun Boyz which had other two artists, Face and BlackFace. Together, they released two successful albums before an infamous break-up in 2004. After the break-up, TuFace released his first solo album called Face2Face. He released another album in 2006 called Grass2Grace that became a massive success and had the hit-single ‘African Queen’ which became the first song by an African to be aired on MTV base. Since then, TuFace became a so famous and won so many local and International awards which includes, one MTV Europe Music Award, one World Music Award, five Headies Awards (Hip-hop award), four Channel O Music Video Awards, one BET award, four MTV Africa Music Awards, one MOBO award, one KORA award, with other numerous minor awards and nominations. All together, he has a total number of six albums to his credit in his illustrious music career so far.
TuFace founded his own record label called Hypertek and in 2009 established an NGO called 2Face Idibia Reach-Out foundation whose motto is “service to humanity”. Amidst a lot of controversies surrounding his affairs with so many ladies who bore him children, he eventually married his long term girlfriend Annie Macaulay in a white wedding at Dubai, on Saturday 23 March 2013.
P-Square (consists of twins Peter and Paul Okoye) were born on 18 November 1981 in Jos, Plateau State located in Northern Nigeria. They became the pioneer Hip Afropop dance group in Nigeria’s music industry where they mimicked their Idols like the late Michael Jackson, Usher, MC Hammer, etc.
P-Square became well known in Jos singing at schools and various competitions and formed their own group calling it different names until they finally agreed on the name P-Square. Their unique type of Hip pop music was characterized with energetic and dynamic dance steps. The duo has six albums to date and have won a total number of 17 major awards across Africa including MTV Africa Music awards for the best group in 2008 and 2009 respectively.
P-Square established their own record label called Square records that produced four of their released albums. Peter Okoye got married to his longtime girlfriend, Titilola Loretta Omotayo and they both have two children a son Cameron and daughter Aliona while Paul Okoye also got married to Anita Isama in 2014 and already had a son, Andre.
D’Banj (real name as Oladapo Daniel Oyebanjo) was born on June 9, 1980 in Zaria, Kaduna State. He is another successful Afro-pop musician, singer, songwriter and harmonica player. His type of music combines Hip pop and Afropop with traditional Nigerian music melodies using Yoruba or pidgin English. D’banj was enrolled into a military school because his father was also a military officer but later travelled to UK in 2001 where he met his then producer Don Jazzy.
D’banj relocated back to Nigeria with his manager Don Jazzy and later released his first album No Long Thing in 2005 which consist of hit singles, “Tongolo” and “Why me”. He later released another hit single, Oliver Twist in 2021 which put him onto the international stage and has won several music awards, including the awards for Best African Act at the MTV Europe Music Awards 2007, Artist of the Year at the MTV Africa Music Awards 2009.
D'banj currently owns his own record label called DB Records and signed his younger brother Kayswitch. He is the founder of Koko Foundation for Youth and Peace Development and also Nigeria's first United Nations Youth Ambassador for Peace.
Davido (born David Adedeji Adeleke) who hails from Osun State in western Nigeria was born on November 21, 1992 in Atlanta Georgia, United States of America to a very wealthy family. Davido is one of the new generations of Nigeria musicians that have recorded an unprecedented success. He brought a new wave of energy into the Nigeria music with his unique voice and style of Afropop music.
Davido’s debut album Omo Baba Lowo was released in 2011 and the single ‘Back When’ was his first ever produced and recorded song. The hit single “Dami Duro” shut Davido to limelight and the video was premiered in January 2012. In a short on coming into the music scene in 2011, Davido has won a lot of awards which include BET Award, a Kora Award, a Channel O Music Video Award, a Ghana Music Award, a Nigeria Music Video Award, two MTV Africa Music Awards, two African Muzik Magazine Awards, five Headies Awards, seven Nigeria Entertainment Awards and two Dynamix All Youth Awards among others.
Davido established his own record label together with his brother Ade called HKN music. Davido developed a huge fan base and recently in 2015 he hit one million followers on social media platform, Instagram and gave one million Naira to a fan.

Banky W (real name as Olubankole Wellington) was born on 27 March 1981 in USA to his Nigerian parents. He is one of the best renowned R&B singers currently in Nigeria. His unique voice is second to none in the Nigeria music especially during his performances on stage. He started doing music at a very tender age of 8 when he joined his church choir.
While in USA studying as an Engineer, Banky W participated and won many music talent competitions including Albany Idol Competition which took him to limelight. Banky released an Extended Play (EP) called Undeniable in 2003, which became his first album under his own record label and has so far released a total of five albums in his music career. He has been nominated and won so many awards including Nigerian Music Video Awards for the Best R&B Video in 2008 for 'Don't Break My Heart’, Best R&B Singer (Male) and Best Music Video 2010 City People Entertainment Awards, R&B Single of the year, 2010 Hip Hop World Awards for 'Strong Ting’.
Banky W established his own record label after achieving great success in Nigeria music and which goes by name, Empire Mate Entertainment (EME). The record label has produced lots of musicians like Skales, Nigeria’s finest and young talented musician, Wizkid, etc. He has a charity organisation and launched the “I AM CAPABLE” scholarship fund, which provides tuition fees and accommodation at private universities for less privileged youths in Nigeria.
Ice Prince (with real name as Panshak Henry Zamani) who originated from Jos, Plateau was born on 30 October 1986 in Minna, Niger State located in North-central Nigeria. He grew up in Jos, Plateau State capital where he and his family settled. Ice Prince is a talented Nigeria Afropop and rap artiste who rose to fame with the release of his hit single ‘Oleku’- which became one of Nigeria’s most remixed songs of all time. His type of music is characterized by the use of his native Hausa language mixed with Nigeria Pidgin English.
He started his musical career in 1998 when he began writing songs and also started performing in social events held at his school. By 2001 he began recording his songs in studios and in the next formed a group with some of his friends called “Ecomog Squad”. In 2004, Ice Prince joined Chocolate city record label owned by another talented Nigerian rap artist M.I with his brother Jesse Jagz. He has won so many Nigeria and continental awards including the Hennessy Artistry Club Tour award in 2009, City People Entertainment Award for the Song of the Year (Oleku) 2011, Channel O Music Video Awards for Most Gifted Hip-hop Video of the Year and so many others.
Ice Prince has a son named Jamal with long time girlfriend Bimbo Babatunde and has a total of three albums so far in his career.
Wizkid (otherwise known as Ayodeji Balogun) was born on July 16, 1990 in Surulere, Lagos State, Nigeria to her single mother. Wizkid started his musical career at a very tender age of eleven (11) when he released a seven-track album titled Lil Prinz, in which his band group of five contributed to consisting of his church members.
Wizkid released his first official solo album called Super Star in 2011 which had the hit single ‘Holla At Your Boy’, that eventually took him up to becoming very famous among his youthful fans. His other popular hit singles include, Don’t Dull, Pakuromo, Caro, etc. He has won so many awards including a BET award, two MOBO awards and Channel O Music Video Award.
Wizkid separated from EME records owned by the famous Nigeria artist Banky W and formed his own record label called Starboy records. He was ranked fifth on Forbes List of Most Bankable African Artistes in 2013. Wizkid has worked with many Nigeria popular musicians like Femi Kuti, TuFace, D’Banj, P-Square and others. He recently did a remix of his latest single Ojuelegba with International rapper Drake.
Olamide ‘Badoo’ (real name as Olamide Adedeji) was born on 15 March 1989 in Bariga, Lagos State located in Western Nigeria. Olamide is a Nigerian Afropop artiste and rapper whose music is often centered on street credibility using his native Yoruba language in most of his songs.
Olamide started his music career after he graduated from and was signed to ID Cabasa's Coded Tunes record label and was managed by Toni Payne. He rose to fame after the release of his first album Rapsodi in 2011 which had a hit single track ‘Eni Duro’ and currently has five albums already. But there is this general conception that the death of foremost indigenous Yoruba rapper Dagrin paved way for Olamide’s emergence. Olamide biggest collabo was with Phyno in Ghost Mode which won 2013 Nigeria Entertainment Awards for Best Collabo. He has won many awards which includes Channels’O Music Video award for Most Gifted West in 2014, Headies award for the Best Rap Album in 2013, etc.
Olamide became the first Nigerian to sign an endorsement deal with Cîroc in 2013 and in that same year sealed several other endorsement deals including becoming an ambassador for Telecom giants, Etisalat. He currently manages his own record label called YBNL Nations which he established in 2012.
Flavour (born Chinedu Izuchukwu Okoli) who hails from Umunze in Anambra State was born on 23 November 1983 in Enugu State, south-eastern Nigeria where he grew up. He is a Nigerian Afropop and highlife musician whose type of music centers mostly on love and often with the use of his native Igbo language. He is also a multi-talented instrumentalist who started his music career at the age of 13 and started playing in night clubs, hotels and ceremonies at the age of 19.
Flavour released his first album titled N’abania in 2005 which was produced by Dekumzy and Obaino Music record label. He became famous for these hit-tracks singles; "Nwa Baby (Ashawo Remix)", "Adamma", "Oyi Remix ft Tiwa Savage" and “Ada Ada”. He has won local and international awards like 2014 MTV Africa Music award for Best Live Act, 2013 Nigeria Music Video Awards (NMVA) for best video of the year and so many others.
Flavour is currently signed on to the record label called 2nite Entertainment. He currently has four music albums to his credit and currently owns a club called Flavour's 2nite Club which he opened in 2012.
