I decided to focus on the top 5 actresses who can really add to the box office success in Hindi Film Industry in 2012. Hindi Film Industry is also referred as Bollywood. Kareena Kapoor

Kareena Kapoor is one of my favourite along with Katrina Kaif. Kareena Kapoor belongs to a family of filmy personalities. Both her parents are actors – Babita and Randhir Kapoor. Randhir Kapoor is son of legendary Raj Kapoor. Raj Kapoor was known as Show Man of Hindi film industry. And Raj Kapoor’s father Prithviraj Kapoor too is actor.

And Kareena Kapoor’s elder sister Karisma Kapoor too is top heroine some years ago before she got married and settled down.

Kareena Kapoor made her debut in REFUGEE (Hindi, 2000) (also debut film Abhishek Bachchan) and winning her first Film Fare award for Best Female Debut 2000. Some of her earlier movies did not succeed at the box office. In “Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham” (a multi-starrer movie) she made her presence felt with her bubbly young student. Girls started to imitate her size zero body after this movie.

Her acting prowess was proved in the movie Chameli (2004) portraying a sex worker character. Then she gave some of critically acclaimed performances in DEV (2004) and Omkara (2006).

“Jab We Met” and “3 Idiots” are the hugely popular and successful movies that have put her on the top league in Hindi film industry. During her decade long career, she already has won 6 Filmfare Awards. Currently she is dating Saif Ali Khan.

Katrina Kaif started her career as model in England. Katrina has lived and moved around several countries before settling down in Mumbai when her career in Hindi Films took off 2003. Kaizad Gusstad gave Katrina her first break in film in 2003 with his film BOOM. The movie was a disaster at the box office. But Katrina was noticed in the movie.

She was offered some more modelling assignments in Mumbai – like Veet (the hair remover cream), mango juice Maaza, Coco Cola, Lakme, Fevicol and LG etc.

She landed her major role in 2005 in David Dhawan’s comedy “Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya” opposite Salman Khan. The movie was moderate success at the box office.

A string of successful films were released in 2007. “Namastey London” with Akshay Kumar was super it movie where Katrina Kaif played a character of Indian British girl. “Partner” another David Dhawan comedy was another successful film, again with Salman Khan and Govinda. “Apne” a major 2007 hit by Dharmendra was melodrama where she had supporting role.

She played central character in another blockbuster movie of 2007 titled WELCOME by Anees Bazmee.

The following year 2008 too started off with success in the form of RACE and SINGH IS KING. “Singh is King” is declared the blockbuster hit of 2008.

In such a short span of her movie career, she has given six consecutive successful movies.

Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani (2009, Hindi), Raajneeti (2010, Hindi) and Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (2011) are some of her successful movies. In the year 2012, some big budget movies are in the offing – like “Ek Tha Tiger” (opposite to Salman Khan) and Dhoom 3 (Aamir Khan playing the anti-hero role).

Priyanka Chopra

Priyanka Chopra won the Miss World title in 2000. Like most Miss World and Miss India, she too wanted a career in films – and got her first break in a Tamil movie “Thamizahn” opposite Vijay.

Priyanka’s debut in Hindi film was “The Hero” followed it up with another Hindi movie “Andaaz”. The former was a destroy, the later had moderate success and it give her, her first Filmfare award for Best Female Debut. Her second Filmfare award came in the form of Best Villain for her excellent performance in “Aitraaz” (2004, Hindi).

But her most superlative performance was in FASHION (Hindi, 2008) which give her National Best Actor award along with Filmfare Best Actress Award 2008.

The movie “Fashion” put her in top league of Hindi film actresses.

If current success is taken into account, then Vidya Balan easily will occupy the top slot. Some of top grossing successful Box Office movies in the recent time belong to Vidya Balan. Single handedly she gave successful movies successively. Kahaani (2012) is already making wave. The movie has grossed US Dollar 20.75 Millions against budget of only 1.6 Million. In the previous year (2001) she give the most successful movie “The Dirty Picture” which give her the National Best Actress award and Filmfare Best Actress Award 2011 – her 5th Filmfare Award in as many years.

She was also the central character in movies Ishqiya (2010) and “No One Killed Jessica” (2011). All these four films were women centric movies. The credit for the success of these movies goes to Vidya Balan.

She started her career in Television and advertisement commercials. Her first major break was her in Parineeta (2005). Later she gave some stirringly performances in Bhool Bhulaiyaa (2007), Guru (2007) and Lage Raho Munna Bhai (2006). She played mother to Amitabh Bachchan in the movie “Paa” (2009).

Deepika Padukone

Deepika Padukone is the daughter of Prakash Padukone, the international badminton player from Bangalore. It is rather a surprise to see Deepika Padukone in top five. She has given only one hugely successful movie – her debut Hindi movie “Om Shanti Om” (2007) with Shah Rukh Khan. She has given string of unsuccessful movies since then. “Houseful” (2010) was success at the Box Office, though critic dismissed this film.

She needs to deliver success in her forth coming films. “Cocktail” is releasing in July 2012. And “Kochadaiyaan” (Tamil) expected to release by September 2012. Kochadaiyaan is Rajnikanth movie, and he will take away much of the shine. But still she will have to show her performance and win over her fans. Else, she will soon disappear from top league of Hindi Film Actresses.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Kajol Devgn and Rani Mukerji are still stars to reckon with. The three have given several successful movies and were number uno in the recent past years. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is quite busy with her baby. Kajol Devgn is planning to come back soon. And Rani Mukerji is on and off.

And there are some new comers too who can easily displace the top 6 heroines of Hindi film industry. Here are some of them to watch out for...

Sonakshi Sinha - watch out of this lady! She can steal the show in coming years! Her movie Rowdy Rathore is releasing this June 1.

Anushka Sharma – she has already given couple of hits in recent times. She debuted with Shahrukh Khan in Rab Ne Bane Di Jodi in 2008. But her most successful movie came in Yash Raj’s movie “Band Baaja Baaraat” a rom-com.

Parineeti Chopra can give real challenge to all the seasoned heroines of the film industry. She debuted in hugely successful movie of 2011 LADIES VS RICKY BAHL. Undoubtedly, she looked the best in the movie and claimed almost a dozen awards that year. And this year too, she featured in top grossing movie so far in 2012, ISHAQZAADE opposite Arjun Kapoor.
