Top 5 Funniest Moments in Castle
Prologue
Hilarious, dramatic, emotional, and still relevant today, Castle remains one of my favorite cop dramedies out there. In case you don't know the story, Richard Castle is a mystery writer who finds inspiration in the NYPD's top detective Kate Beckett. What starts out as a simple, fun plot turned into 8 years of incredible stories, great mysteries, and some amazing humor. Nathan Fillion brought some of the funniest moments in cop drama history. In this article, I will list my picks for the top 5 funniest moments in Castle.
#5: "Casing the Crack"
In season 8 episode 3, Castle investigates the death of a college student even after being told by the NYPD to stay away from the case. With Ryan and Esposito's help, Castle attempts to crash a college party to get information. What follows is an inadvertent beer pong challenge that leads to some funny drunken moments, an angry wife, and a judgmental daughter.
#4: Torturing the Boyfriend on Prom Night
In season 1 episode 10, Castle is both proud and upset when his daughter Alexis has her first date, and on prom night no less. He decides to keep with the time-honored tradition that all fathers with beautiful daughters keep to: torturing the boyfriend by making them as uncomfortable as possible. Even though he sadly doesn't get to do what he wants, he does give us a hilarious Christopher Walken impression.
#3: Beckett Hides from Castle's Mom
In the season five premiere, Castle and Beckett wake up from their night of bliss only to be interrupted by Castle's mom who was supposed to be in the Hamptons. Castle panics, telling Kate to hurry and hide in the closet. The awkwardness makes for one hilarious scene as Castle tries his best to get Martha to leave asap.
#2: Castle vs the Elevator
In season 2 episode 19, Castle and the NYPD investigate a murder at a museum. While looking around, Castle opens the sarcophagus of a mummy. Legend has it that looking at the mummy brings bad luck. Ryan, Esposito, and Kate mess with him a little for a couple laughs. Castle eventually convinces himself that there is no curse...until he steps on the elevator.
#1: Castle and Kate's Flirty Banter
Probably the funniest and cutest moments of the show involve Castle and Kate's flirty, sexual tension. Will they? Won't they? They kept us wondering if they'd ever get together for 4 seasons. The below two videos compile the absolute best of their flirty hilarity.
Conclusion
In conclusion, Castle is still highly respected and well-loved with millions of fans wishing for a revival and a proper ending to the series. Nathan Fillion is already comedic gold but adding Stana Katic's serious and commanding presence makes each scene work both in humor and in drama. Revisiting the show every now and then is still a delight for me and it'll be a fun trip even 10 years from now.
