Top 5 Movie Theaters on Earth

Updated on May 8, 2012

Watching a movie can be a thrilling experience depending on where you watch it and how. If you ever plan on going to Seoul in South Korea, Jaipur in India or Kansas in the US, make sure you don’t miss out on the most amazing movie theaters worldwide with culinary specialties, 4-D entertainment or gigantic cinema screens. However, my personal favorite is the floating movie theater that was erected in Nai Pi Lae Lagoon in Thailand for the Rocks Yao Noi Festival in March 2012 under the theme PRIMODIAL
“Arriving to a place of origin where roots and nature are embraced.” A floating, eco-friendly and socially responsible movie theater which combines entertainment and sustainability definitely represents a source of inspiration for similar projects in the future.

1 Cine de Chef,
Seoul, South Korea

There are many movie theaters that offer food and beverages but none of the culinary delicacies offered are of such an excellent, high quality as at this high-carat location. The food is created by a praiseworthy chef and the fine drinks perfectly complement the sophisticated meals. The seats were made by the same reputed designer that designed seats for the Royal families of the United Arab Emirates. Tickets can be purchased for US$ 53 per person.

2 Raj Mandir Theatre,
Jaipur, India

The movie theater features a retro-deco style seems to be a movie theater inside a palace. It is considered to be the best movie theater in India and despite its sophistication and uniqueness, its tickets cost only US$3. Obviously, the auditoriums at Raj Mandir are always filled until the last seat.

3 4DX,
Seoul, South Korea

It features the latest technology and makes hearts beat faster. The 4dX movie theater is the first movie theater in the world to play 4D, which are 3D movies but with wind, water and fragrance effects as well as moving seats. Tickets prices start at only US$12 per person.

The only downside is that some people such as kids shorter than one meter or expectant mothers are advised not to come to a 4D movie theater.

4 Warren Theatres,
Kansas, United States

With the largest IMAX 3-D digital screen in the world, this movie theater makes your experience of watching a movie unforgettable. It is supposed to be the best IMAX theater in the country with an over 60-foot-screen, seating for 601 people and a spectactular sound system.

Ticket prices are between USD 9 and USD 16.

5 The Floating Movie Theater,
Nai Pi Lae Lagoon on Kudu Island,Thailand

Cinema lovers found the non plus ultra in the lagoon of a tropical island in southern Thailand, where a German architect had designed a floating movie theater for the Rocks Yao Noi Festival in March 2012. The audience was seated on an auditorium raft where they were facing a movie screen situated in front of two gigantic rocks sitting in the sea. Speedboats brought the guests to the auditorium where they hovered on the raft above the calm sea watching the movie. Scheeren, the architect, designed the movie theater out of recycled material and after the end of the festival the material was donated to the local Yao Noi community. This does not only make it an eco-friendly but also a socially responsible movie theater. It definitely deserves to be on my top 5 list of movie theaters and I hope to see some imitations soon.

Jennifer, thanks for sharing. This was real interesting to know how those movie theaters are out of this world, compared to ours here in USA. Voted up!
