Since 2010, we had a bunch of good anime series to watch. May it be romance, action, adventure, horror, sci-fi or comedy, we always have a good reason to watch anime from the past six years. What are the best anime that we had so far? Here's a list of the best anime series according to genre.

Best of 2010

Anime of the Year: Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood

The most popular, most loved, and the best anime of 2011 is the second season of Hiromu Arakawa's Fullmetal Alchemist. The story follows the adventure of the two Elric brothers: Edward and Alphonse, and their search for the legendary Philosopher's Stone. As they go on their journey, they encountered many obstacles and enemies along the way. The anime was praised for its good animation and satisfying conclusion, calling it a "virtually perfect ending to an outstanding series". We're definitely going to miss one of our childhood anime series!

Best Action Shounen Anime: Durarara!!

Which gang are you in? The Dollars, Blue Squares, or Yellow Scarves? Durarara!!, the most favorite action anime series of 2010 is popular for its smart story featuring the mystery of Ikebukuro and the citizens who hold influence in the whole town. The existence of the chat room, manipulated by the main antagonist, Orihara Izaya, makes the story interesting. The anime is also famous because of its characters which appears to have a deeper background relationship.

Best Horror Anime: High School of the Dead

What will you do if the zombie apocalpse day came and you're trapped in the school? Won't you feel terrified, scared, and troubled? This anime will show you how to survive in this horrifying scenario. Learn from the characters' use of their abilities, skills, hand-made weapons and tools to fight the monsters that are coming in their way. And also, beware of the friendship betrayals that might cause further trouble.

Best Shoujo Romance Anime: Kaichou wa Maid-sama!

One of the best favorites in the world of shoujo anime is the story of Usui Takumi and Ayuzawa Misaki. Not just cute but also funny, sweet, and lovely, these two characters never failed to make us fall in love, especially the prince of the story, Usui! Maid-sama is not only popular in 2010, but continues to be an all-time favorite of many anime lovers.

Anime of the Year: Mirai Nikki

Also known as Future Diary, this thriller-romance anime became popular for the Yandere Queen character, Yuno Gasai and the 14-year-old loner, Yukiteru Amano. Yuno's character is the perfect meaning of being a true Yandere. It was so extremely perfect according to its very definition that she became the lead icon for the Yandere character. Her possessiveness and obsession with Yuki is incomparable. Dear guys, do you want to have a girl like Yuno?

Best Action Shounen Anime: Blue Exorcist

Ao no Exorcist is a good anime in its entirety: good story, good animation, and good characters. There's no reason not to love Rin Okumura, with his innocent face yet dangerous nature. Other characters are also lovable as well, including his twin handsome brother Yukio, the other exorcists Ryuji, Shiemi, Izumo, Konekomaru, and Renzo. This action anime is definitely a good one to set you ablaze on fire.

Best Romance Anime: Shakugan no Shana

One of the most wonderful fantasy romance tale of all time, Shakugan no Shana focuses on the story of a high school named student Yuji Sakai and his encounter with Shana, a Flame Haze girl with flaming red eyes and hair dressed in all black wielding a katana. The story is incredibly interesting, fast-paced, and hyped-up, and the drama + romance moments are balanced as well.

Best Melodrama Anime: Anohana

If you don't cry while watching this anime, you probably have a cold heart. Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day, or simply Anohana, is a popular melodrama anime of friendship, love, trust, and youth. The story is about a group of six same-aged friends and the tragic death of one of them. The story is lightly heartwarming at first, but heavy feels are coming ahead as you move on. An almost similar anime, Orange, also became popular in 2016.

Anime of the Year: Sword Art Online

The most popular anime of 2012 is none other than Sword Art Online. Almost every otaku became hardcore fans of this action-romance adventure of Kirito and Azuna as they play in the world of SAO, an online game which eventually turned into a world. A unique story concept with intense battle scenes featuring our promising characters (especially the hot Asuna) makes it famous.

Best Fantasy Shounen Anime: Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic

Another great anime of 2012 is Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic. This anime in its entirety is almost perfect: great animation, amazing characters, and wonderful story. Featuring the journey and adventure of the trio - Alibaba, Aladdin, and Morgiana and their encounter with the other characters. It's impossible to have only one favorite character, because all of them are super lovable, even the villains!

Best Romance Anime: Kamisama Hajimemashita

How can we not fall for this romantic-comedy anime of 2012? With our energetic, witty, and strong heroine, Nanami, and her flower boy familiar, Tomoe, our utmost joy and cheesy feeling is guaranteed. The story is just perfect for every shoujo romance fans out there. This also became popular because of Tomoe's character. He's playful and ultra handsome, with long white silky hair, violet lovely eyes, and cute fluffy ears. Every girl would definitely want him!

Best Sports Anime: Kuroko no Basuke

Another anime that rose into fame is Kuroko no Basuke, the best sports anime of 2012. Usually, sports anime are enjoyed by boys, but this anime is also popular among girls, since the anime is full of handsome basketball players with incredible abilities. The main characters are also popular for their 'rainbow' hair colors that makes it super attractive. If asked, who is your favorite player? Is it the shadow Kuroko, or the light Kagami? Or one of the Generation of Miracles?

Anime of the Year: Attack on Titan

The anime that is the most popular, most controversial, and most talked in the whole world is Shingeki no Kyojin, also known as Attack on Titan. It became so popular that it might be the anime of the decade. With a very unique and original post-apocalyptic story, the horrifying concept of titans eating humans is became immensely popular and massive hit that even the mangaka, Isayama Hajime couldn't believe himself. The journey of our heroes, Eren, Armin, and Mikasa, along with the Scouting Legion is truly legendary.

Best Romance Anime: Golden Time

Golden Time is a funny romance-comedy at first that eventually became a heavy drama. The love story of Tada Banri and Kaga Kouko is not perfect, because they have to overcome series of hurdles in the pathway of their relationship. Their story became popular for making the audiences laugh and cry, and the background story of Banri is something that we couldn't take lightly. It is one of the many romance anime that shoujo fans shouldn't miss.

Best Action Comedy Anime: The Devil Is a Part-Timer!

It is an action anime with hilarious and comical scenes, featuring the part-timer demon protagonist, Sadao Maou, and his position as the Devil King who uses his power to do good deeds. Isn't it ironical? An evil in nature who helps people for the better good is definitely confusing, and that what makes the story more interesting, funny, and worth watching.

Best Sports Anime: Free!

After last year's Kuroko no Basuke, here's another sports anime that every fangirls loved to watch: the swimming anime, Free! With colorful hairstyles and competitive skills in swimming, these hot boys compete for the glory of their school's swimming team. With a back story about friendship, childhood, and trust, diving together in the water with Haru, Makoto, Rei, Nagisa, and Rin is something refreshing!

Anime of the Year: Tokyo Ghoul

The dark fantasy anime that awakens every otaku's desire for something intense, gore, horrifying, and thrilling. Tokyo Ghoul follows the story of Ken Kaneki and how he became a half-ghoul after his deadly encounter with Rize Kamishiro. This transformation is not to be taken lightly, because he had to consume human flesh to continue living. This unique dark story of ghouls became popular not only in anime, but its manga version became also a massive hit.

Best Action Shounen Anime: Noragami

Not only action-packed, but also comical and hilarious is the year's favorite, Noragami. It is the story of Yato, a stray god who became a 'jack-of-all-trade' in exchange for 5 yen. His character is supposed to be a cool hero like every protagonist does, but most of the time he's just slacking off. He then meets Hiyori Iki, and Yukine later became his regalia weapon. Together, they work to kill off corrupted spirits and sometimes do odd jobs.

Best Shoujo Romance Anime: Ao Haru Ride

A lovely, youth romance story that perfectly captures the hearts of shoujo lovers is the Blue Spring Ride. It is about the story of Futaba Yoshioka and her hidden feelings towards the gentle boy, Kou Mabuchi. Besides their story, the side characters' story is also something that makes the anime colorful. It was popular and successful, that even a live-action adaptation was made the next year.

Best Sports Anime: Haikyuu!!

Our sports of the year 2014 is volleyball, and the sports anime is Haikyuu!! True enough, their hair colors may not be as colorful as KnB and Free!, but the characters are so lovable for their strong motivation, good teamwork, and cute 'senpai-kouhai' relationships. Featuring the ever-cheerful Shouyo Hinata who is also dubbed as 'Little Giant' and the 'King of the Court', volleyball genius Tobio Kageyama, they do their best in Karasuno to become the best volleyball team ever.

Anime of the Year: One-Punch Man

Saitama, the strongest hero of the decade, is born thanks to this year's most popular anime, One-Punch Man. He is literally the 'one-punch' man, because he can knock down everything with just a single blow of his punch. He's extremely overpowered, right? He is also popular for his unique character image. He is bald and his costume is the yellow full-body tights and red cape like every superhero wears. In 2017, a season 2 of this anime is coming, so fans can finally have more of Saitama's powerful punches!

Best Action Shounen Anime: Overlord

Have you ever thought of an anime protagonist whose face is always hidden in a death-like mask? The curiosity to see it is killing you, right? Momonga, the protagonist of Overlord, is exactly like that. He was a simple salaryman playing a VR online game, but since he became a legend in the game, he is always seen as what he is in the game. Packed with amazing battles, action scenes, and interesting game concept, this anime is also popular in 2015.

Best Action Comedy Anime: Assassination Classroom

The anime that is popular because it has the smiley character. Assassination Classroom, also called Ansatsu Kyōshitsu, is an action comedy anime about the ultimate task of killing the smiley-face teacher called 'Koro-sensei'. Seemed like an easy task, but in reality, it is impossible, because Koro-sensei has incredible superpowers that makes him invincible. His students respects him as the best teacher they ever had, and Koro-sensei helped them to become good fighting students.

Anime of the Year: Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress

After three years, fans of Shingeki no Kyojin missed the intense hype that the anime gave them, and Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress satisfied that feeling. With a similar post-apocalyptic concept of zombie-like monsters called Kabane who are chasing and eating humans, it gives the similar feeling of how titans are feeding themselves with humans. Another interesting thing is revealed when our heroes, Ikoma and Mumei, is revealed to be one of the Kabaneri, a half-human half-Kabane. Right now, a season 2 is said to be done on 2018.

Best Action Shounen Anime: D-Gray Man Hallow

Finally, after going on hiatus, our favorite shounen anime D-Gray Man is back with more intense action scenes that will surely satisfy our long wait. Allen Walker is back in a more mature figure, his hair is now longer and he is more masculine than ever. What's more, his ability to be a Noah makes him the most interesting character ever - from a kind Allen to a fierce Mana, how are the fan girls going to resist that? Also, is Cross Marian really dead? We can only know as we watch the series.

Best Comedy Anime: The Disastrous Life of Saiki K.

The anime that will surely relieve your stress, is The Disastrous Life of Saiki K., which is the best comedy anime of 2016. Guaranteed to make you laugh until you wet your eyes with tears, it is about Kusuo Saiki, a high school student who was born with all manner of psychic abilities, including telepathy, psychokinesis, teleportation, and more. However, he still faces all kinds of hardships despite his powers, and tries to avoid attention as much as possible. Can he really do that when he stands out so much?
