Top Hat with Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers

Updated on April 23, 2010

I have been tap dancing since I was 5 years old and have been watching Fred Astaire movies since I was 10; but oddly enough I never really watched any of the Astaire & Rogers movies. A few months back I was flipping through the 300 channels that I pay an arm and a leg for in hopes that something decent will be on, and came across the opening of Top Hat. I was packing for a trip and since Fred Astaire always relaxes me I figured it would be the perfect movie to have on in the background as my husband and I got ready to depart for vacation the next day.

The problem then arose that my husband was the only one packing and I was sitting on the edge of the bed mesmerized by the movie. It was a younger Fred Astaire that I had not seen before, and this movie made me love him even more! This movie is so light and carefree that you can only be in a good mood when it is over.  Plus if you enjoy the style of the thirties Ginger Rogers will not disappoint, her wardrobe throughout the film is stunning.  Top Hat is not the first film Fred and Ginger made together, but it is certainly a great film to start with if you have never experienced this duo before!  Top Hat will have you humming for the rest of the night and you will be wishing you took those tap dance lessons!
