Kannan just loves all things Bollywood. Being a Mumbaikar, he has a tremendous love for Hindi cinema.

Mahendra Kapoor, one of the most underrated and uncelebrated singers of Indian cinema, is undeniably the Voice of Their Nation to many Indians in India and abroad.

Independence Day or Republic day celebration is rather incomplete without listening patriotic songs sung by Mahendra Kapoor. The voice that makes us feel proud, the voice that shivers the body reminding us of the effort and sacrifices given by our leaders.

The voice of Mahendra Kapoor has a major share in Manoj Kumar being nicknamed Bharat Kumar. Mahendra Kapoor songs have played a pivotal role in Manoj Kumar's life.

Mahendra Kapoor has the rare distinction as a playback singer for many Indian languages. Besides Hindi, he sang songs in Punjabi, Gujarati and even in Marathi. He made his début as a playback singer in V.Shantaram's 1958 film named Navrang, the popular romantic song 'Aadha Hai Chandrama' also features in this list.

In his fascinating career, Mahendra Kapoor has sung over 25,000 songs which include songs from all genre; such as patriotic, romantic, religious and as well comedy-driven songs such as 'Do Bicchare Bina Sahare' and 'Thande Thande Paani se Nahana Chahiye'.

It is rather very unjust, to sum up, such a great singer in just list of ten best songs, but the songs below are some of them that touch my heart.

Below is the list of top 10 best songs of Mahendra Kapoor without any particular order. Go and download it from some of the legal sites to download these songs.

  • Mere desh ki dharti - Upkar

This song tops my list of my favorite song by Mahendra Kapoor. The lyrics of the song is great and picturization absolutely charming.

Those who still think MK is not one of the great singers that Indian cinema has ever produced must surely listen this song.

Mahendra Kapoor, truly a masterstroke.

  • Yahan Wahan Jahan Tahan - Jai Santoshi Maa

I had to choose a religious song by Mahendra Kapoor, after much thought and research I selected this one because it is one of the first religious songs sung by him.

The song from the film Jai Santoshi Maa, the low-budget film that remains one of the blockbuster films of Indian Cinema.

  • Mera Rang De Basanti Chola - Shaheed

The movie depicting the biography of Sardar Bhagat Singh. This movie set a precedent for further movies that were on patriotism.

This song has truly become the song of rebellion across India, and wherever there is a protest taking place you can certainly hear this song.

The new version of the movie, The Legend of Bhagat Singh, also features the song along the same lines, but this time in the voice of Sonu Nigam.

  • Aadha Hai Chandrama - Navrang

As I said before, Navrang was the movie in which Mahendra Kapoor made his début as a playback singer.

The soothing music and on top of it the voice of Mahendra Kapoor. Complementing well is Asha Bhosle with her graceful voice.

Who said Mahendra Kapoor was loud?

  • Bharat Ka Rehne Wala Hoon - Purab Aur Pachhim

The lyrics of the song by Indeevar is truly a great reckoner of India's achievement to the World. Listening to this song instigates a sense of pride.

The movie was a major hit and made Manoj Kumar a household name in India.

The other hit song, 'Om Jai Jagdish Hare' of the movie regularly features in every Hindu festival.

  • Lakhon Hain Yahan Dil Wale - Kismat

The wonderfully flowing song from the 1968 film Kismat is a treat to every Mahendra Kapoor fan. Every time I listen this long it takes me in a world of its own.

Watching the video of this song seems to me as if it's not Biswajeet but Dev Anand dancing to the tunes.

  • Fakira Chal Chala Chal - Fakira

The typical Hindi movie of the 70's, starring Shahi Kapoor, Danny, and Shabana Azmi. Two brothers (Shashi and Danny) lose their parents in a fire following which they are separated and grow up in different circumstances and become criminals. Love, reunion of brothers and their struggle with Madan Puri forms the story.

The song of hope, 'Sun Ke Teri Pukaar' got the Filmfare award for best male and female playback singer for Mahendra Kapoor and Hemlata respectively.

  • Na Muh Chupake Jiyo - Humraaz

Humraaz movie songs became a major achievement in the career of Mahendra Kapoor. Following which he got Filmfare for best male playback singer that year in 1968.

He got the award for the song 'Neele Gagan Ke Tale'. Frankly, I have chosen this song in the list for no certain reason, every song is great of this movie.

  • Tum Agar Saath Dene Ka Vada Karo - Hamraaz

All songs from Humraaz are masterpieces and it would be injustice if this song is not mentioned in this list.

Other songs from this movie are : -

  • Neele Gagan Ke Tale
  • Kisi Patthar Ki Moorat Se
  • Tu Husn Hai Main Ishq Hoon

  • Chalo Ek Baar Phir Se - Gumraah

The first ever Filmfare award for Mahendra Kapoor was because of the song from Gumraah - Chalo Ek Baar Phir se.

One of my personal favorite movie and the performance by Mala Sinha is commendable. The 2005 movie Bewafaa of Akshay Kumar and Kareena was based on the storylines of Gumraah.

Those were my favorite songs by Mahendra Kapoor. Vote for your best song in this list.
