Top Ten Male Actors Under 30

Updated on September 21, 2012

Introduction

The following list is based solely off of my opinion. If you disagree in any way, I'd love to hear it and also hear of other actors that did not make this list. All of these actors are awesome in their own way and bring a unique perspective to the male actor. There are TONS of actors who are just a tad bit older than thirty I wished I could include (Ryan Gosling and Joseph Gordan-Levitt to say the least). I watch a lot of movies in a pretty big array of genres and these actors have stood out for me. Not only are they handsome guys, but their acting style is unique and unlike any others I have seen. Check out my Top Ten Male Actors Under 30!

Jesse Eisenberg
Jesse Eisenberg

10. Jesse Eisenberg

Age: 28

Famous For: The Social Network

Years Active: 1996-Present

For those of you who don't know Jesse Eisenberg, he's been in quite a few movies that were popular over the last few years. The Education of Charlie Banks and Adventureland are two of my favorite movies that he plays in. Jesse Eisenberg came out of nowhere really and took us all by surprised. He's very laid back in his acting style and is able to bring his own unique voice to a character. He's a great actor and definitely deserves this #10 spot on my list.

Freddie Highmore
Freddie Highmore

9. Freddie Highmore

Age: 20

Famous For: August Rush

Years Active: 1999-Present

You may not recognize Freddie is the picture shown. He's gotten a few years older since playing Charlie in Charlie and The Chocolate Factory or Peter in Finding Neverland. This young man shined immediately in everything he played in. He was captivating in his roles and was nominated a great deal of times for his performances. He's still young and has a lot to learn in life, but as an actor he's definitely original and brings a great brimming excitement to all of his roles.

Tyler James Williams
Tyler James Williams

8. Tyler James Williams

Age: 19

Famous For: Everybody Hates Chris

Years Active: 2000-Present

I think Tyler James Williams is easily forgotten. It's really a shame because the boy can act. If you've ever seen Everybody Hates Chris, you'll discover that he's a really talented actor, able to make the audience life, cry, and scream. His enthusiasm and antics in his roles makes him a very enjoyable person to watch. Tyler James is young, just like Freddie and I see him growing in the industry. Give him a few years and he could definitely blow us all away!

Jonah Hill
Jonah Hill

7. Jonah Hill

Age: 28

Famous For: Superbad

Years Active: 2004-Present

The picture I chose for Jonah Hill is after he's lost many pounds. He was once the chubby kid in all of his roles such as Knocked Up and Accepted. Also don't forget that Jonah is a very gifted screenwriter, having written Allen Gregory and the story for 21 Jump Street. Jonah Hill is a comedy actor by default, but he's recently been recognized for his dramatic role in Money Ball. Jonah is still making his mark and I think he's going to go very far.

Dev Patel
Dev Patel

6. Dev Patel

Age: 22

Famous For: Slumdog Millionaire

Years Active: 2006-Present

If you've forgotten about Dev Patel, it's a shame. He's a great young male actor who really needs to get back in the game. After working on English teen drama, Skins, he starred in Slumdog Millionaire, an eight-time Academy Award-winning film about a poor boy winning the Indian version of Who Wants to Be A Millionaire? He's got spunk to him I think and I can't wait until his recent gig premieres next year. I see a bright future for Patel. Don't You think?

Anton Yelchin
Anton Yelchin

5. Anton Yelchin

Age: 23

Famous For: Charlie Barlett

Years Active: 2000-Present

Anton Yelchin can summon the greatest emotions from all of his roles. I've seen him in a vast array of movies including recent blockbusters Terminator and Star Trek. Every time I see that he's in a movie, I make sure that I see it. He's fun to watch, making the actor job look very easy. He's also very comical in his roles on Star Trek and Charlie Bartlett. Anton Yelchin is also currently working on a Star Trek sequel reprising his role of Chekov.

Shia Labeouf
Shia Labeouf

4. Shia Lebeouf

Age: 26

Famous For: Transformers

Years Active: 1996-Present

Yes, that's right. I couldn't leave out Shia Lebeouf. He's a really great actor, believe it or not. I've never read anything saying how crappy he is or his apathy towards acting. What's fascinating about Shia is that he really didn't want to act at first, but soon fell in love with it. I'm sure a lot of people remember him from Even Stevens on Disney Channel. He was so funny! Also don't forget that Shia got a lot of attention when he began to act, appearing great movies such as I, Robot, Constantine and Indiana Jones and The Kingdom of The Crystal Skull. Shia will continue to make his mark as a favorite of Spielberg.

Logan Lerman
Logan Lerman

3. Logan Lerman

Age: 20

Famous For: The Lightning Thief

Years Active: 2000-Present

I've had my eye on Logan Lerman since he play Bobby McCallister on Jack & Bobby. It's really funny really because it was an awesome show with a low fanbase. I never forgot the actor's name. He was really good at his young age and I continued to see him grow as an actor. He kept popping in to some other movies such as The Number 23, 3:10 To Yuma, Gamer, and The Three Musketeers. He's young and gifted and I think he's going to go far. He's not overzealous in his acting and he's a natural at it. Check out any of those movies if you don't believe me!

Andrew Garfield
Andrew Garfield

2. Andrew Garfield

Age: 28

Famous For: The Amazing Spider-Man

Years Active: 2004-Present

I don't know much about Andrew Garfield, but I do know he's going to be a quick riser after The Amazing Spider-Man. He's really shown a great deal of strength as an actor playing the role of Peter Parker. In my own personal opinion, he did it way better than Tobey McGuire. I believe that that role will open many doors for him as an actor. Now that we've seen his charm, his fear, his determination in his characterization, we will trust him with even more awesome roles. Andrew is going to have an awesome 2013, I predict.

Emile Hirsch
Emile Hirsch

1. Emile Hirsch

Age: 27

Famous For: Into The Wild

Years Active: 1996-Present

In all honestly, Emile Hirsch and Joseph Gordan-Levitt would have tied for number one. That is, if Joseph wasn't thirty-one (still disappointed). I've been following Emile's roles very closely and have seen a great deal of movies that he has appeared in or starred in. He's a jack of all trades, able to play any role that is thrown at him. He is truly deserving of the #1 spot on this list. Some of his best movies include Speed Racer, Lords of Dogtown, Alpha Dog (Anton Yelchin was in this one too), and Milk. Emile plays gay, straight, mentally unstable, dehydrated, poisoned, a jerk, a friend... I've seen him do so many roles that I can't believe one person is doing all of it! If you have not seen Into The Wild that is the movie you should see him in. Emile Hirsch continues to amaze me.

Never mind...just looked him up...JGL is 31....I thought he was slightly younger....so you can ignore my previous comment.

Thanks Cogerson!! I SO WANTED to put him on this list, but he's not under 30... that's the only reason I had to exclude him. Honestly, he would have been my #1. He's my favorite actor hands down. I'm glad you liked Looper. I totally just say it Friday and was very pleased with it. It's action, drama, and sci-fi all rolled into one. Thanks for your second visit. :)

Sharkye I had to look up Thomas Sangster. I may have seen him ONCE... that would explain why he isn't on my list. I wanna say I saw Nanny McPhee and he was really good, but it's been a LONG time since I've seen that movie. My friends love Phineas and Ferb, but I've never seen it. I appreciate your visit and comment!! Good seeing you!

After seeing Looper(which is awesome by the way) a few times over the last couple of weekends...I think Joseph Gordon-Levitt would be an excellent member of this list.....besides Looper he appeared in The Dark Knight Rises, Premium Rush and in a few more weeks he is in the new Spielberg movie...that is not a bad year for anybody....plus he has appeared in movies for over 20 years now....continue to vote up and interesting.

Interesting list. Until I read this I had no clue how few younger actors I actually watch. I did enjoy Freddy Highmore as Charlie. I thought he had a lot of potential then. And I enjoyed Shia LaBeouf in Indiana Jones and Transformers. Sadly, they are the only two names I recognized from here. ( maybe an actors over 50 list? :) )

One younger actor I didn't see on your list is British actor Thomas Sangster. I was really impressed with his acting abilities.

Thanks a lot Cogerson for the visit and comment!! Emile Hirsch is awesome, you gotta see some of his stuff. Shia... yeah I hope he keeps steaming along.

Very nicely done....I could not believe how much Freddie Highmore grew since the last time I have seen him. I think Andrew Garfield has a great chance to still be a "hot" actor in 10 years....not so sure about Emile Hirsch.....I think Lawless with Shia LeBeouf is a big test....if it flops....he might go running back to Transformers...and begging Spielberg to forgive him. Voted up and interesting.

I like this list and my favorite has to be Andrew Garfield- he has so much depth to me. I've only seen him in Social Network but he definitely did his thing in the movie- I would have never known he was British if I hadn't seen him in interviews.

I agree about Shia LaBeouf- it seemed like he was having a good run but I think his mouth gets him in trouble. He's kind of like the Gen Y version of Sean Penn and if he keeps himself in line he can be an Oscar contender as well.

My sentimental favorite is Tyler James Williams. He was one of the best child actors I've seen in a long time. I was mad that EHC got canceled like it did but I enjoyed the whole cast and hopefully the young actors will get the roles they deserve.

      Great hub!

I totally didn't even realize it was him until someone told me... he's that good lol. I saw him in Finding Neverland, August Rush, and Charlie and The Chocolate Factory. He's a good actor.

At Mundane... Those two did not come to mind when writing this. I think it's because I have haven't seen them outside of major franchises (Harry Potter and Twilight).

Sam, so glad you like Anton Yelchin. He's just awesome!! He is definitely one of my favorites!

Anton Yelchin is probably my favorite actor from this list. Totally awesome in the Fright Night remake, and a perfect younger Chekov in Star Trek.

Ahh... Chris Hemsworth... 29... Didn't think of him actually. I don't really know too terrible much about him either, I don't think. That's a great suggestion!! And Daniel Radcliffe... other than Potter I've seen him in one movie, so I'm not 100% sure on him yet, though I do enjoy watching him on screen. Emma Watson is on my Top Ten Actresses Under 30 list... he's definitely awesome. :) Thanks for the input!!

I find Jonah Hill grating, but it's a pretty good list. I'd make room for Chris Hemsworth or Daniel Radcliffe, but other than that I think you nailed it...
